Improve your memory

Some people often complain about their poor memory. Actually there are several ways to keep your memory sharp. This article will show you some simple tips.

【1 When you say these things, you begin to plant the thought in your mind and it may become true. Tell yourself you can remember anything as long as you put your mind to the task. You will see an improvement in your memory.

2 If you have trouble remembering phone numbers or other blocks of numbers, it can be really helpful to try this method. If you remember them in smaller groups, like two or three digits (数字), it will also be much easier to remember the numbers.

Be sure to see a doctor if you are really losing your memory. A poor memory can be a sign that you are in low spirits. 3

Playing games also helps improve your memory. Any type of games that involves(涉及) remembering things is wonderful. 4 Try and remember it when you have nothing better to do. A useful tip for anyone interested in games is to often work on solving word puzzles and similar types of games. 5 Not only will your memory probably improve, but you will also have a great deal of fun.

A. Remember numbers in small groups.

B. Take a right attitude.

C. Stop telling yourself you have a weak memory.

D. If you don’t like games, you can go over a list of "to do things".

E. If you don’t know your condition, you cannot treat it!

F. If so, treating it could be the key to getting your memory back.

G. Such games use the same skills needed to remember facts and help keep the mind sharp.

【1】C

【2】B

【3】F

【4】E

【5】G

Tell yourself you can remember anything as long as you put your mind to the task.

If you remember them in smaller groups, like two or three digits (数字), it will also be much easier to remember the numbers.

A poor memory can be a sign that you are in low spirits.

Any type of games that involves(涉及) remembering things is wonderful.

A useful tip for anyone interested in games is to often work on solving word puzzles and similar types of games.

On Friday, our teacher told us that there would an English corner in front of our teaching building. I set about soon after the last class in the afternoon.

To my joy, the English corner had just been on for a few minute. I joined them on their talk. At first, I was afraid that my English was so poor and limit that I couldn’t follow them or make myself understand. I was also afraid that anyone might laugh at me. But a smiling face here or an encouraging nod there soon put me at ease. Though I speak to them only in simple English that day, I believe in future I will make a greater progress.

I have been teaching animal behavior at the Boulder County Prison in Colorado for 10 years. The course is one of the most popular in the prison. Prisoners have to earn the right to attend the course and they work hard to get in.

One reason why the course is so popular is that many prisoners find it easier to connect with animals than with people, because animals dont judge them. They trust animals in ways they dont with humans.

Yet, they hold a misunderstanding of how animals treat one another. Many admit that their own animal behavior is what got them into trouble in the first place. I teach that though there is competition and aggression in the animal kingdom, there is also a lot of cooperation(合作)and sympathy.

Many of the students want to build healthy relationships, and they find that the class helps them. I use examples of the social behavior of group-living animals such as wolves as a model for developing and maintaining(维持)friendships among people who must work together for their own good and also for the good of the group.

Its clear that science inspires the students here and it also gives them hope. I know some students have gone back into education after their being set free while others have gone to work for humane(人道)societies or contributed time and money to conservation organizations. One went on to receive a masters degree in nature writing.

Science and humane education help the prisoners connect with values that they otherwise would not have done. It opens the door to understanding, trust, cooperation and hope. Theres a large population of people to whom science could mean a lot, if only they could have access to it. The class helps me, too. I get as much out of it as the students and it has made me a better teacher.

【1】The authors course is welcomed by the prisoners because ______.

A. they consider animals their best friends

B. they are curious about animal kingdom

C. they feel it easier to get along with animals

D. they are more familiar with animal behavior

【2】The author used wolves as an example to ______.

A. provide the prisoners with more knowledge

B. explain the cruel side of group-living animals

C. help the prisoners realize the importance of teamwork

D. inform the prisoners that animals get people into trouble

【3】We can infer from the text that some prisoners ______.

A. have turned over a new leaf

B. are required to attend the course

C. are willing to learn working skills

D. prefer humane education to science

American black bears appear in a variety of colors despite their name. In the eastern part of their range, most of these bears have shiny black fur, but in the west they grow brown, red, or even yellow coats. 1Even in the same litter (一窝幼崽), both brown and black furred bears may be born.

Black bears are the smallest of all American bears, ranging in length from five to six feet, weighing from three hundred to five hundred pounds.2

3 However, if attacked, most can climb trees and cover ground at great speeds. When angry or frightened, they are formidable enemies.

Black bears feed on leaves, herbs, fruit, berries, insects, fish, and even larger animals.4Unlike squirrels, woodchucks, and many other woodland animals, bears do not actually hibernate. Although the bear does not eat during the winter months, sustaining itself from body fat, its temperature remains almost normal, and it breathes regularly four or five times per minute.

5They prefer to live in caves. Baby black bears are born in January or February after a gestation(怀孕) period of six to nine months, and they stay with their mother until they are fully grown or about one and a half years old. Black bears can live as long as thirty years in the wild, and even longer in some nature reserves.

A. To the north, the black bear is actually gray or white in color.

B. Black bears mate all year round

C. One of the most interesting characteristics of bears, including the black bear, is their winter sleep.

D. Like all bears, the black bear is timid, clumsy, and rarely dangerous.

E. Bears often eat a lot of food before they hibernate in their caves.

F. Most black bears live alone, except during mating season.

G. Their eyes and ears are small and their eyesight and hearing are not as good as their sense of smell.
