I’m Li Hua, a student in Senior Grade 3 and a leader of literature society in our school. I’m writing to tell you my idea that we should advocate reading Chinese classics, which I hope will be helpful and beneficial to us students.

As Francis Bacon wrote in one of his famous essays, “Retina makes a full man.” Reading classics by such great masters as Confucius and Cao Xueqing is both important and beneficial to the character development and personal growth of young people, because in those masterpieces we can find “the best that has been thought and said in the world”.

Accordingly, due attention should be given to reading Chinese classics. To begin with, our school should put more effort into the development of Chinese culture to make more students proud of it. Besides, exams should be made more balanced, not simply emphasizing the importance of making it a compulsory curriculum.

Through these efforts, I think, there will exist an increasing number of students reading Chinese classics in our school, which will definitely benefit us students for a lifetime.
