The summer holiday is coming. My classmates and I are talking about how to do during the holiday. We can chose between staying at home and take a trip. If we stay at home, it is comfortable but there is no need to spend money. But in that case, we will learn little about world. If we go n a trip abroad, we can broaden you view and gain knowledges we cannot get from books. Some classmates suggest we can go to places of interest nearby. I thought that it is a good idea. It does not cost many, yet we can still learn a lot.
【1】how→what
【2】chose→choose
【3】take→taking
【4】but→and
【5】about 后加the
【6】your→our
【7】knowledges→knowledge
【8】删除can 或改为should
【9】thought→think
【10】many→much
【1】how→what 考查固定结构。“特殊疑问词+to do”在本句中作为短语talk about的宾语,其中what还要作为动词do的宾语。
本句中动名词短语staying at home与taking a trip构成并列关系,都作为介词between的宾语。
【4】but→and 考查连词。
【6】your→our 考查代词。
【10】many→much 考查代词。
I am looking for some matches. Do you have any matches? I do not have any matches. Will you lend me some money? (=Please lend me some money.) Come any day you like.

A number of books are missing from the library.
The room contained a great (or large or good) number of students.(复数可数名词)
The rest of the students are absent. (复数可数名词) The rest of the water was thrown away.

Dear Anne,
I like your column very much. I met a girl four years ago at a gym. She was the one who originally approached me and we became good friends. Then one day, she made me really angry, so angry that I just left and we never saw each other again.
Looking back, I really regret ending things that way. It was a cowardly act on my part, but I had a terrible temper at that time and let the smallest thing get to me. Recently, I’ve started thinking about her again and I looked up her e-mail address. I thought about writing to say “Hi” and apologize for what I did but I’m not sure. She could still be angry with me, or maybe she has forgotten me. I feel very lonely and I want to see her again. What should I do?
Tom
Dear Tom,
She may still be angry with you, and she may have forgotten the friendship between you, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve an apology. Tom, how many of us have wished for the day that someone who treated us badly saw the light and finally owned up? But we rarely get that kind of expected result. So sure, e-mail her and say “Hi”.
Tell her you have been thinking about her and just want to apologize for getting angry and being a coward by walking out on her. But you should remember if she thinks you’re apologizing just because you are lonely, she might dismiss your sincerity. Therefore, don’t mention that. If she wants to see you again, she’ll make sure that happens.
Even if she doesn’t want to be your friend, I can assure you, she’ll appreciate the gesture. And it might make you think twice next time you get angry.
Anne
【1】In the letter, Anne is probably ___________.
A. Tom’s friend B. Tom’s teacher
C. a woman reporter D. a columnist
【2】What is troubling Tom?
A. He can’t get in touch with his former friend.
B. He regrets letting his former friend leave him.
C. He doesn’t know whether to apologize to his former friend.
D. He is uncertain whether his former friend can forgive him.
【3】Which of the following is what Anne advises Tom to do?
A. Tell her that he expects to see her again.
B. Express his sincere apology to her.
C. Tell her that he is very lonely.
D. Beg her to give him another chance.
【4】Anne wants to tell Tom that ________.
A. an apology is better late than never
B. he should think twice before he gets angry
C. it’s no use crying over spilt milk
D. he should answer for his wrong doings

All her life, my mother wanted busy children. It was very important that her house should remain at all times clean and tidy.
You could turn your back for a moment in my mother's house, leave a halfwritten letter on the dining room table, a magazine open on the chair, and turn around to find that my mother had “put it back where it belonged” as she explained.
My wife, on one of her first visits to my mother's house, placed a packet of biscuits on an end table and went to the kitchen to fetch a drink. When she returned, she found the packet had been removed. Confused (疑惑的), she set down her drink and went back to the kitchen for more biscuits, only to return to find that her drink had disappeared. Up to then she had guessed that everyone in my family held onto their drinks, so as not to make water rings on the end tables. Now she knows better.
These disappearances had a confusing effect on our family. We were all inclined to (有……的倾向) forgetfulness, and it was common for one of us, upon returning from the bathroom, to find that every sign of his work in progress had disappeared suddenly. “Do you remember what I was doing?”was a question frequently asked, but rarely answered.
Now my_sister_has_developed_a_secondhand_love_of_clean_windows, and my brother does the cleaning in his house, perhaps to avoid having to be the one to lift his feet. I try not to think about it too much, but I have at this later time started to dust the furniture once a week.
【1】Which of the following is TRUE about my mother?
A. She enjoyed removing others' drinks.
B. She became more and more forgetful.
C. She preferred to do everything by herself.
D. She wanted to keep her house in good order.
【2】My wife could not find her biscuits and drink in my mother's house because ________.
A. she had already finished them
B. my mother had taken them away
C. she forgot where she had left them
D. someone in my family was holding them
【3】The underlined part in the fifth paragraph suggests that my sister ________.
A. is happy to clean windows
B. loves to clean used windows
C. is fond of cleaning used windows
D. likes cleaning windows as my mother did

I love camping. It is my favorite way to spent the summer vacation. Last year, my family and I went camping in the countryside. It was one of the most excited experiences I had never had. We slept in a tent and went on a long walk every day. We cook over a fire and the food always tasted wonderfully.
For a whole week, I saw lovely mountain views or breathed fresh air. At night, I heard the gentle wind blowing in the tree, and I felt so peaceful. It doesn’t cost many to camp, and which I believe it’s the best way to get close nature and enjoy its beauty.

Simon Sinek is naturally shy and doesn’t like speaking to crowds. At parties, he says he hides alone in the corner or doesn’t even show up in the first place. He prefers the latter. Yet, with some 22 million video views under his belt, the optimistic ethnographer also happens to be the third most-watched TED Talks presenter of all time.
Sinek’s unlikely success as both an inspirational speaker and a bestselling author isn’t just dumb luck. It’s the result of fears faced and erased, trial and error and tireless practice, on and off stage. Here are his secrets for delivering speeches that inspire, inform and entertain.
Don’t talk right away.
Sinek says you should never talk as you walk out on stage. “A lot of people start talking right away, and it’s out of nerves,” Sinek says. “That communicates a little bit of insecurity and fear.”
Instead, quietly walk out on stage. Then take a deep breath, find your place, wait a few seconds and begin. “I know it sounds long and tedious and it feels excruciatingly awkward when you do it,” Sinek says, “but it shows the audience you’re totally confident and in charge of the situation.”
Show up to give, not to take.
Often people give presentations to sell products or ideas, to get people to follow them on social media, buy their books or even just to like them. Sinek calls these kinds of speakers “takers,” and he says audiences can see through these people right away. And, when they do, they disengage.
“We are highly social animals,” says Sinek. “Even at a distance on stage, we can tell if you’re a giver or a taker, and people are more likely to trust a giver — a speaker that gives them value, that teaches them something new, that inspires them — than a taker.”
Speak unusually slowly.
When you get nervous, it’s not just your heart beat that quickens. Your words also tend to speed up. Luckily Sinek says audiences are more patient and forgiving than we know.
“They want you to succeed up there, but the more you rush, the more you turn them off,” he says. “If you just go quiet for a moment and take a long, deep breath, they’ll wait for you. It’s kind of amazing.”
Turn nervousness into excitement.
Sinek learned this trick from watching the Olympics. A few years ago he noticed that reporters interviewing Olympic athletes before and after competing were all asking the same question. “Were you nervous?” And all of the athletes gave the same answer: “No, I was excited.” These competitors were taking the body’s signs of nervousness — clammy hands, pounding heart and tense nerves — and reinterpreting them as side effects of excitement and exhilaration.
When you’re up on stage you will likely go through the same thing. That’s when Sinek says you should say to yourself out loud, “I’m not nervous, I’m excited!”
Say thank you when you’re done.
Applause is a gift, and when you receive a gift, it’s only right to express how grateful you are for it. This is why Sinek always closes out his presentations with these two simple yet powerful words: thank you.
“They gave you their time, and they’re giving you their applause.” Says Sinek. “That’s a gift, and you have to be grateful.”
