    13．Telling fewer lies benefits people physically and mentally．Anita Kelly，study author and professor of psychology at the University of Notre Dame，recruited 110adults for her study．She divided them into two groups and asked one group to stop lying for 10weeks．Lies included big ones and tiny ones-any false statement-but participants were still allowed to leave out the truth，keep secrets and avoid questions they didn't want to answer，etc．The other group wasn't given any special instructions about lying．

    When participants in the no-lie group told three fewer white lies than they did in other weeks，they experienced，on average，fewer mental-health complaints and physical complaints．They were less likely to feel tense or sad and also experienced fewer sore throats and headaches．They also reported that personal relationships improved．Additionally，participants found themselves being honest about their daily accomplishments，and they stopped making up excuses for being late or failing to complete a task，for example．
    "It's certainly a worthy goal to have people be more honest and interact with others in a more honest way，"says psychologist Robert Feldman．"That would be beneficial．I'm a little doubtful that it makes us all healthier，but it may make us healthier in a psychological way．"

    "We're very excited，"said Helen N．Marano，Director of the Office of Travel and Tourism Industries under the U．S．Department of Commerce．Before she talked to Beijing Review on June 17，Marano and her colleagues had been waiting for more than two hours at Washington Dulles International Airport to give a warm welcome to the first organized group of Chinese tourists to visit the United States．
    The first group consisted of 250 tourists，who left from Beijing，Shanghai and Guangdong on June 17，the day when newly appointed Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan and U．S．Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson started the fourth round of the China-U．S．Strategic Economic Dialogue （SED） in Annapolis，Maryland．Each was backed by a big group of heavyweight ministerial officials．
    Coincidence （巧合） could not provide a satisfactory explanation to the two events taking place on the same day．As a perfect example of one of the concrete results of the high-level dialogue between the two countries started by Chinese President Hu Jintao and U．S．President George W．Bush in 2006，the first Chinese tourist group's arrival in the United States was widely reported by the Chinese media．
    At the previous SED meeting last December，Chairman of the Chinese National Tourism Administration Shao Qiwei and U．S．Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez signed an agreement between China and the United States to advance tourist group travel from China to the United States．Under this agreement，China agreed to give an"approved destination status"to the United States，allowing Chinese travel agencies to market tourism to American destinations and permitting U．S．destinations to advertise directly to the Chinese public．
    The agreement"is estimated to bring up to 100 million Chinese travelers to the United States over the next 15 years，"Paulson said．
    But what people in the U．S．tourism industry care more about is how they can get a big slice of the pie．
    "I'm getting calls already from people saying things like，‘How do we get to do this？'and‘How do we attract Chinese tourists to our area？'"Marano told Beijing Review．Marano said she had been waiting for this market to be open for more than five years and that she was so excited now to see it finally happen．

    11．Reading Oliver James'Affluenza，I thought about what often happens at home．  My 12-year-old daughter is in tears．"I have to take a test tomorrow．I don't understand any of it，"she cries out．After shouting and shutting her door，she calms down enough to go through her notes．The following day I ask her how the test went and she just says"OK．I got a nine"．
    "Wow，well done!"I say，before she finishes with"But I never get a ten!"
        According to James，this obsession with getting top marks has been a bad development，which encourages people to think of education in terms of work and money．To test this，I asked my daughter why she was so worried about her tests．She looked at me as if I was thick．"Well，if I don't get good grades，I won't get into university．Then I probably won't get a good job and I won't be able to afford nice things like a ear and stuff．"
        I was quite surprised，because I don't consider myself a pushy parent．But James suggests  showing any interest in grades sends the message that what is important is results and it leaves students feeling failures even if they are very bright．He points to the Danish system（体制）of  education as a better model．Creating happy citizens who have good social skills is seen as more important than high achievements at school or the needs of business．
        For me．I cannot remember the last time I had to work out the area of a circle，recite a  Shakespeare poem or grammar rules，yet I have lived a happy life．What I really needed to learn at school was how to make polite conversations，or how to avoid getting into debt or how to develop good personality．
        This is in fact similar to what Oliver James really has in mind．And he is looking for schools
    where students are encouraged to find and follow their own interests，something more like Tongjon．Tongjon has been developed in some Korean private schools．It is quite different from the more rigid system of learning things by heart that is used in Korea，and indeed in many other school systems around the world．
      As the Russian poet Pushkin said，"Inspiration（灵感） is needed in geometry（几何学） just as much as in poetry"，and inspiration does not come from endlessly revising for tests or getting worried about them．
