¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿The tallest building in the United States, the One World Trade Center, opened on November 3, 2014 in New York. The building is 1,776 feet tall, making it the 3rd tallest building in the world. It has 104 floors. The building stands in the area where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once stood. On September 11, 2001, a group of terrorists destroyed these twin towers and killed nearly 3,000 people. It took 8 years to build the new One World Trade Center. Does the height of the building in feet reminds you of something in history? The number is the year when the United States declared(Ðû²¼) its independence(¶ÀÁ¢) from Great Britain.

One problem with such a tall building is how to clean the windows. Well, a platform(ƽ̨) hangs from ropes, and workers on the platform clean windows. On November 12, while two men were busy cleaning windows, a rope of the platform broke near the 68th floor. The two men were saved by cutting a hole in the glass window.

The two tallest buildings in the world are the BurjKhalifa in Dubai, UAE and the Makkah Royal Clock Tower in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

¡¾1¡¿When did the One World Trade Center open?

¡¾2¡¿Who destroyed the twin towers of the World Trade Center?

A. A group of young men.B. A group of terrorists.

C. A group of workers.D. A group of soldiers.

¡¾3¡¿¡°The number¡± in the first paragraph refers to________.

A. 8B. 104C. 1,776 D. 3,000

¡¾4¡¿How were the workers on the platform saved when a rope broke?

A. By calling for help.

B. By using a new rope.

C. By jumping off the platform.

D. By cutting a hole in the glass window.

It is known to all that we students today have to fix our attention to our lessons, so we know few of society. A holiday is the best time and the best chance to make up for that. Take a part-time job is a good form of social practice. That we have learned in books and in class can¡¯t have the same important effect us as what we have learned through personal practice. In social practice, we can surely make a progress in both knowledge or practical ability. Beside, when we take a part-time job, we may got paid more or less to help our family. Thus, I will say senior school students should take part-time jobs in their holidays, if possibly.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿For teenagers, it's great fun to explore new places and it feels like an adventure, even when you know you're not the first to have been there. But to make sure not to get lost or waste time going round in circles, the following tips may be helpful.

¡ôDo the map reading if you're being driven somewhere. It'll be easier if you keep the map following the direction you are traveling in. Keep looking ahead so that you can give the driver lots of warning before having to make a turn, or you'll have to move to the back seat.

¡ôGet a group of friends together and go exploring. You'll need a good map, a compass, a raincoat, a cell phone to call for help in case you get lost, and a bit of spare cash for emergencies. Tell someone where you're going before you set out and let them know what time you expect to be back. The purpose of the activity is in not getting lost, not in seeing how fast you can go, so always stick together, waiting for slower friends to catch up.

¡ôSee if your school or a club organizes orienteering£¨Ô½Ò°Ê¶Í¾±ÈÈü£© activities, in which you need a map and a compass to find your way. This can be done as a sport, with teams trying to find the way from A to B(and B to C, etc. ) in the fastest time, or simply as a spare-time activity. It enables you to be familiar with the use of maps and compass and gain some special skills. In some way, it¡¯s not only good fun, but also a great way to keep fit.

¡¾1¡¿When you sit beside the driver, you¡¯d better ________.

A£®look ahead to see where there is a gas station

B£®move to the back seat if feeling uncomfortable

C£®keep looking at the map to find another place to go to

D£®direct the driver when necessary

¡¾2¡¿In the exploration, why do you need to wait for the slower friends?

A£®To share the fun with him/her in exploration.

B£®To tell him/her what¡¯s going on with group members.

C£®To avoid yourself or your friends getting lost.

D£®To show them how fast you can go.

¡¾3¡¿What does the whole passage talk about?

A£®The fun of exploration.

B£®What to bring for exploration.

C£®How to prevent people getting lost in exploration.

D£®The way to use a map in exploration.
