As soon as I saw her, I understood I was in trouble. The tiny 10-year-old girl was staring at me with that specific facial expression which probably only dentists have to enjoy all day long!

Whatever question I asked, whatever activity I suggested, her reaction was pretty much the same ¡ª she was frozen with horror. She was sent to our private language school after having been the worst in English at her key school with a pretty strict ELT syllabus(½Ìѧ´ó¸Ù), with her peers©vͬѧ©w teasing her for her mistakes in English. Moreover, her state school teacher called her name. To make things worse, she was under pressure from her family for getting bad marks in English. She was definitely expecting me to carry on the same way with her.

I have to admit that I had been staring at her with probably the same expression for a while before eventually she handed in an absolutely incredible©vÁîÈËÄÑÒÔÖÃÐŵĩw composition which I had previously asked the class to write. It was written in perfect handwriting, was full of clever ideas and had correct paragraphing. The girl got her first excellent mark in English, and I praised her generously and from then on I started using her writing skills to support the others. Before doing an oral retelling of a story, she wrote it down. Before presenting her oral project, she was allowed to do the same thing. The day she first put up her hand to orally answer my question addressed to the class I was incredibly©v·Ç³£©w happy.

She taught me how to approach withdrawn students ¡ª find the skill which they can excel©vÉƳ¤©w at, in her case writing, and help the student use it to develop other skills!

B. she was good at writing poems

C. she felt very uncomfortable at her previous school

D. she is poor at her pronunciation

4.We can conclude that the author .

A. learned something from the girl student

B. focused on how to improve oral English

C. failed to approach the withdrawn student

D. wasn¡¯t experienced in teaching English

In most parts of the world, many students help their school make less pollution. They join in ¡°environment clubs¡±. In an environment club, people work together to make our environment clean.

Here are the things students often do.

Turn off the water! Do you know that some toilets can waste twenty to forty tons of water an hour? In a year, that would fill a small river! In environment clubs, students mend those broken toilets.

No-car day. On a no-car day, nobody comes to school in a car¡ªnot the students and not the teachers! Cars give pollution to our air, so remember:

Walk, jump, bike or run.

Use your legs! It¡¯s lots of fun!

No-garbage(À¬»ø) lunches. How much do you throw away after lunch? Environment clubs ask students to bring their lunches in bags that can be used again. Every week they will choose the classes that make the least garbage and report them to the whole school!

We love our environment. Let¡¯s work together to make it clean!

April 22nd every year marks the start of Earth Day, a day that is celebrated annually to raise awareness about our home planet and how we can save it from being damaged. 1.

1. Green-up your home

This is one of the most common things that people do whenever Earth Day rolls around, that is, switch off(¹Ø±Õ) their lights. 2. Conserve(½ÚÔ¼) energy by switching off all power or electricity points whenever they are not in use. In addition, take out all the plugs from plug points even after switching them off.

2. 3.

Cars, being the greatest source of air pollution, can be left at home this weekend. 4. Other greener choices are carpooling, riding a bike or you can also walk if you want a healthier choice and if your workplace is not that far away from your home.

3. Be a little dirty

No, we don¡¯t mean it ¡®that way¡¯. We simply mean to say, don¡¯t take a bath. Yes, conservation of water is super essential. A day or two without a bath won¡¯t harm you, but it will certainly do a lot of good for our planet. A daily shower isn¡¯t a matter of health; it¡¯s a matter of comfort. 5.

The future of our planet is in your hands!

A. Started in the year 1970, Earth Day is now celebrated in more than 190 countries each year.

B. Showering every day can wash away the natural oils that our skin and hair need.

C. Do something every day that will improve your surroundings to make the planet a better place

to live in.

D. Traveling via public transport is the better choice.

E. Leave your cars at home.

F. Below, we have made a list of things you can do to celebrate Earth Day.

G. However, this is not something you should do just for a day or for only an hour.
