¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Flight cancellations(È¡Ïû) and loss of luggage can ruin even the best-planned holiday. The key to a stress-free trip is having a backup plan.
Fly non-stop. The worst problems involve connections, so it is important to take non-stop flights whenever possible. If you do have to make a connection, try to route through a southern city, where snowstorms and de-icing delays will be less likely. Always allow at least two to three hours for flight connections.
Check the weather. Check the weather in your connecting city, not just the arrival and departure city. If your departure flight is cancelled because of weather, you can go home or back to your hotel. Airlines promise to get you on the next available flight, not the next flight. That could be several days later on a sold-out holiday weekend.
Go early. The earlier in the day you fly, the better your chance of getting rebooked the same day after a missed connection. It will also put you ahead of stranded(ÖÍÁôµÄ) passengers who arrive later.
Rebook immediately. As soon as your flight is delayed or cancelled, get on the phone and rebook your flight instead of waiting at the ticket counter. If your rebooking is delayed, call or ask your travel agent to find a seat on another carrier, and then ask your original carrier to endorse your ticket to the new airline. Airlines are not required to do this but often do. Learn more at www. dot. gov/ airconsumer/ fly-rights.
Ship bags. A few days before your flight, ship suitcases or holiday gifts to your destination by a documented express service. It¡¯s preferable to losing bags because of re-routed flights and sometimes cheaper than paying airline overweight bag fees.
Know your rights. Airlines are not required to compensate passengers for delayed or cancelled flights, but it never hurts to ask for goodwill vouchers(ÕÛ¿Û) for meals, taxis or a room.

There is not anybody else quite like Stephen Wiltshire. Born in 1974, Stephen was always different. ¡¾1¡¿ In fact, he talked to nobody, showed no interest in school subjects and wasn¡¯t able to sit still. Stephen was later told that he had autism(×Ô±ÕÖ¢). He didn¡¯t learn fully to talk until he was nine years old and he didn¡¯t manage to pass his exams. ¡¾2¡¿ Art became his way to communicate.
He started by drawing funny pictures of his teachers, but soon began to draw buildings. His eye for detail was perfect. He could see a building just once and remember everything about it. ¡¾3¡¿ Hours later, in front of TV cameras, he managed to draw this building, with the time on the station clock saying 11:20, the exact time when he was there. The television programme made him famous overnight in the UK.
¡¾4¡¿ He has become a well-known artist, published four books of his drawings, taken helicopter(Ö±Éý»ú) rides above the world¡¯s great cities and drawn amazing pictures of them, and opened his own art gallery, where he now works, in London.
His drawings are correct and true in every detail¡ªhe always manages to draw everything in the right place. ¡¾5¡¿ In 2006, he was given an MBE(Member of the Order British Empire) by the Queen of England for services to art.
A. Floating Cities was his third book.
B. As a child, he couldn¡¯t make friends.
C. Besides, they are also beautiful to look at.
D. Luckily he found one thing he liked doing: drawing.
E. After that, many great things have happened to Stephen.
F. In 1987, he saw a train station in London called St Pancras.
G. On 15 February 2008, ABC News named him Person of the Week.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿The other day I heard a few local musicians talking:
¡°I hate all the terrible pianos in this town. I hate that rubbish they play on the radio. They can¡¯t even understand a bit of music.¡±
¡°I¡¯m never playing in that club again. Too many drunks and nobody listens to us.¡±
But, one younger musician said, ¡°There are a few clubs that book my band a few nights a month, and I¡¯m trying to find other places to play. I¡¯m also looking to book a few summer festivals this year.¡±
I¡¯ve heard that you are the average of the five people whom you spend the most time with, or to put it another way, you are who your friends are.
Attitudes are important. Whether they¡¯re positive or negative, they¡¯re rubbing off on you. If you¡¯re around people who complain about lack of work and about other musicians, or blame others, and you play the role of victim, chances are you will start to as well. So it¡¯s time to take a look at the people you call ¡°friends¡±.
This is an easy exercise: Make a list of the people who you hang out with, and simply stop spending time with the negative people on your list. Set a new standard for yourself and don¡¯t become friends with people who fall below that standard.
Keep successful people around you and your own chances for success will be much better. Ask them how they do it. Ask if they will help you get the work you¡¯re looking for, or maybe give you some advice to help you on your career path.

It is common that more and more high school students open ¡¾1¡¿ (them) own micro blogs on the Internet. For one thing, it can provide a colorful platform to show their talent. For another, it is a useful way ¡¾2¡¿ (reduce) their pressure. And all these make it more and more popular ¡¾3¡¿ high school students. But many parents and teachers hold a different view. They think that managing one¡¯s micro blog ¡¾4¡¿ (take) a lot of time and energy, which should be used to study.
In my view, I am ¡¾5¡¿ (great) in favor of this activity. Today the Internet is playing ¡¾6¡¿ important and essential role in our life. Therefore, as high school students of the Information Age, we need to learn to make use of this ¡¾7¡¿ (value) tool to communicate and display ourselves. ¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿A drunken burglar£¨µÁÔô£© in the Orrel Park area of Liverpool, ended up leaping out of a window after a 10-year-old girl asked him to prove he was a superhero.
The drunken thief who pretended he was Superman to stop a child raising the alarm has been caught after he leapt from the apartment building in his pants to make the girl convinced.
Thief Ethan Adamson, 25, told police that he had broken into a fifth-floor flat after a drinking session(¾Æ»á), believing it was empty.
But he was horrified when the owner¡¯s 10-year-old daughter woke up while he was there.
From his hospital bed, the thief told reporters, ¡°To keep her quiet, I told her I was really Superman and I¡¯d soon be flying off back to my secret headquarters.¡±
