【题目】 Here are some Chinatowns for those outside of China wishing to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
London
Although it may not be as large or as long-built as others, having only become a center for the Chinese community during the 1950s, London’s Chinatown is perfectly formed little firework (烟花) that knows how to see in the year with a bang. ●Michele Manhire
My son Aaron is 8. It’s been 8 birthdays and 9 Christmases of “What can we get, Aaron?” without proper toys along the way. He is just simply particular about toys. I can honestly tell you, I am printing this list, and heading to a couple of stores (some online) that I can get some of these items! Maybe this won’t be such a depressing Christmas.
●Vera
Do you have any yam balls (纱球)I bought a giant one for my classroom but ended up keeping it for my own kids. They’re strong enough to throw but soft enough to use as a doll bed.
●Natalie
Excellent post! Thank you so much for putting this together. I have been looking through special needs toy lists to find one that I thought would be most helpful to my followers. This post agrees to our personal experience most closely. I have shared it with many other groups and the feedback has been wonderful.
●Meagan

【题目】How to improve vocabulary fast
Your vocabulary refers to the words in a language you are familiar with. We should learn some ways to expand it.
Read every day. 【1】. Choose reading material that is slightly above your level and keep a dictionary with you to look up words you do not know.
【2】. If you do not meet with an unfamiliar word in your daily reading, use your dictionary to search for one.
Learn the correct definition and pronunciation for each new word. Pronunciation is as important as definition because in order to add a word to your active vocabulary, you must be able to use it in speech.
Elaborate (详尽阐述) on the meaning of the word. If you have just learned the word “stubborn”, think about the neighbour who will not lend you his car. 【3】
Use your new word in speech and in writing. E-mail your sister about how your cat is stubborn about sleeping on your pillow. 【4】. But the more you use it, the more fluent you will become in its use. Soon it will be a regular part of your active vocabulary.
Tell everyone you are trying to increase your vocabulary. Encourage them to ask you what your latest word is. 【5】
The more you explain the meaning of a word to someone, the more likely you are to remember it.
A. The vocabulary can be increased.
B. Find a new word every day.
C. Or let them ask for the definition of a new word you have used.
D. The more often you read, the faster your vocabulary can grow.
E. The first time you use a new word in speech it may seem strange.
F. Imagine him shaking his head, and think of him as “stubborn in his refusal”.
G. Your vocabulary contains the words you understand.

【题目】Two things changed my life: my mother and a white, plastic, daisy bike basket. I would be a different person if my mom hadn’t turned a silly bicycle accessory(配件) into a life lesson I carry with me today.
It was summer and, one day, my mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixed — and there it was in the window. White, shiny, plastic and decorated with daisies, the basket seemed so appealing and I knew I had to have it.
“Mom, please can I get it? I’ll do extra chores for as long as you say. I’ll do anything, but I need that basket. I love that basket. Please, Mom. Please?”
“You know,” she said, gently rubbing my back while we both stared at what I believed was the coolest thing ever, “If you save up, you could buy this yourself.”
“By the time I make enough it’ll be gone!”
“Maybe Roger here could hold it for you,” she smiled at Roger, the bike guy.
“For that long? He can’t hold it for that long, Mom. Someone else will buy it. Please, Mom, please?”
“There might be another choice,” she said. My mother bought the beautiful basket and put it safely out of reach in some hiding place I couldn’t find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing nest egg earned by extra work here and there (washing the car, helping my mother make dinner, delivering milk around the neighborhood). And then, weeks later maybe, I counted, re-counted and jumped for joy. Oh, I made it! I finally had the exact amount we’d agreed upon.
Days later, the unthinkable happened. A neighborhood girl I’d played with appeared with the exact same basket fixed to her shiny, new bike. I rode my bike fast home to tell my mother about this disaster, this horrible turn of events.
And then came the lesson I’ve taken with me through my life: “Honey, your basket is extra-special,” Mom said, gently wiping away my hot tears. “Your basket is special because you paid for it yourself.”
【1】In Paragraph 1, the writer shows a sense of ________.
A. loneliness B. thankfulness
C. helplessness D. cleverness
【2】The writer finally got the basket she desired by ________.
A. working and saving B. crying and begging
C. waiting and sharing D. borrowing and returning
【3】What lesson did the mother want to teach her children?
A. Hard work leads to success.
B. After rain comes fair weather.
C. The fruit of one’s labor tastes sweeter.
D. Understanding and patience bring happiness.
