  Germans Prefer Cozy Life, Saty With Pals.

  HAMBURGGermans like to spend their leisure time with friends in a generally cozy atmosphere, according to a nationwide survey published in the mass-circulation Bildam Sonntag newspaper.

  Four out of five of those asked put meeting friends at the top of the list of things they like doing most in their spare time (78 percent). Visits to a restaurant are popular too (71 percent), followed by going to the cinema (62 percent), or going out for a drink at a pub or bar (61 percent).

The top of the after-work pursuits list for the 21 to 30-year-old is visiting friends (90 percent) compared to 78 percent for the 14 to 20-year-olds.

  “In the 1990s a person's circle of colleagues(同事)was his modern family. Now it's his or her friends,”said Hamburg trend scout, professor Peter Wippermann, 52.

  Life in the workplace is getting increasingly faster with the emphasis on efficiency (效率). People now see free time as a chance to sit back and enjoy life.

  Among people over 45, a trip to a restaurant is the favorite leisure pursuit. Older people are particularly partial (偏爱) to a night out at the opera or theatre (53 percent).
