【题目】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
D
It is natural that young people are often uncomfortable when they are with their parents. They say that their parents don't understand them. They often think that their parents are out of touch with modern ways, that they are too serious and too strict with their children, and that they seldom give their children a free hand.
It is true that parents often find it difficult to win their children's trust and they tend(倾向) to forget how they themselves felt when young.
For example, young people like to act on the spot without much thinking. It is one of their ways to show that they have grown up and they can face any difficult situation. Old people worry more easily. Most of them plan things in advance, at least in the back of their minds, and do not like their plans to be upset by something unexpected.
When you want your parents to let you do something, you will have better success if you ask before you really start doing it.
Young people often make their parents angry with their choices in clothes, in entertainment and in music. But they do not mean to cause any trouble; it is just that they feel cut off from the older people's world, into which they have not yet been accepted. That's why young people want to make a new culture of their own, and if their parents don't like their music or entertainment or clothes or their way of speech, this will make the young people extremely happy.
Sometimes you are so proud of yourself that you do not want your parents to say “yes” to what you do. All you want is to be left alone and do what you like. It is natural enough, after being a child for so many years, when you were completely under your parents’ control.
If you prefer to control your life, you'd better win your parents over and try to get them to understand you. If your parents see that you have a high sense of responsibility, they will certainly give you the right to do what you want to do.
(1)According to the text, young people prefer to __________.
A.ask for advice before they really start to do anything
B.think in the same way as their parents do
C.be very strict with themselves
D.do things without thinking carefully ahead
(2)Why do young people like to have clothes, entertainment and music in their way?
A.Because they want to try on something new and look different from the older.
B.Because they try to get their parents to be proud of them.
C.Because they want to give their parents a big surprise.
D.Because they want to test whether they are cleverer than old people.
(3)According to the text, young people want to make a new culture of their own, because _________.
A.they feel they are cleverer than old people
B.they do not want to get into trouble with their parents
C.they don’t feel they belong to the world of the old people
D.they want to show the new is better than the old
(4)If a young man intends to control his own life, it's better for him to __________.
A.do everything according to his own wish
B.hold himself responsible for everything he does
C.do everything beyond his parents' control
D.do everything the way his parents do

【题目】For over one hundred and fifty years, Americans of all social classes have worn blue jeans. Since they were invented by Levi Strauss, they have become a symbol of American consumer culture. Whether they are worn for work or for fashion today, Strauss’ invention continues to be popular not only among Americans but also among people around the world.

Levi Strauss was born in Germany in 1829.1 He grew up in Kentucky before moving to New York in 1847. Before becoming an American citizen and moving to the West in 1853, Strauss worked in his brother’s dry goods business. This gave him a chance to produce his famous invention. After the gold rush of 1849, Strauss decided to move to the West to seek his fortune.

Strauss did not want to be a person who searched an area for minerals. Instead, he knew he could make a good living by selling supplies to the miners. At first, he planned to sell sewing supplies and cloth.2When he heard miners complaining that their clothes were easily broken or they usually tore their pockets during mining, he decided to use a special fabric to make pants for the miners. These pants proved so popular that he quickly ran out of materials to make more.

In 1873, Strauss received a letter from a Jewish tailor named Jacob Davis who had invented a process of connecting pockets with copper rivets(铆钉). This made the pants last a long time. Because Davis did not have the money to patent his idea, he offered to share it with Strauss if Strauss would agree to pay for the patent.3

By the time Strauss died in 1902, he had made a great contribution to American fashion.

He also made a great contribution to America's clothing industry. The business has been growing ever since and Levi Strauss' company is now one of the largest clothing companies in the world.

A.As a young boy, he moved with his family to the United States.

B. Nobody knew what kind of material was suitable.

C. He did and Levi jeans have been made with metal rivets ever since.

D. However, he did not get much business for those products.

E. As the business grew, Strauss got much money from it.

【题目】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 Recently, a study was carried out to determine who was the greatest American president. Sixtyfive presidential historians took part in it, and they judged the past fortyfour American leaders based on ten leadership qualities, including public persuasiveness(信服), crisis leadership, management of the economy, moral leadership, and conduct of international relations. The historians also looked at administrative ability(管理能力), relations with Congress, ability to set goals, and the pursuit of equal justice for all. Finally, the experts took into consideration the historical period in which the president lived.
The historians chose Abraham Lincoln as American's greatest president. He had also been named the greatest president in a similar study in 2000. Abraham Lincoln was the president who led the nation through the Civil War in the 1860s, and was able to unite it in the end. He also took the first steps to abolish(废除) slavery in America.
Edna Medford, a professor of history at Howard University in Washington, D.C., was an adviser on this study and the earlier one. She says Abraham Lincoln is seen to represent the values the nation most honours, such as truthfulness, moderation, and respect for human rights.
The historians put American's first president, George Washington, second on the list, while Franklin D. Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, and Harry S. Truman follow in that order. John F. Kennedy, the country's first Roman Catholic president, is sixth on the list. Like Lincoln, Kennedy was murdered while in office.
Among recent presidents, Ronald Reagan was named the tenth best and Bill Clinton rated fifteenth, while the historians put former president George W. Bush at number thirtysix. His father, George H.W. Bush, did much better, being placed at number eighteen.

B.Edna Medford didn't take part in the study conducted in 2000

C.George H,W, Bush was thought to have done worse in office than George W,Bush
D.Harry S,Truman was rated the fourth best president by the study
(2)Which of the following belong to the ten leadership qualities considered? a. Being able to persuade the public.

A.a,b,c

【题目】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项。 There seems never to have been a civilization(文明) without toys, but when and how they developed is unknown. They probably came about just to give children something to do.
In the ancient world, as is today, most boys play with some kinds of toys and most girls with another. In societies where social roles are strictly determined, boys pattern their play after the activities of their fathers and girls after the tasks of their mothers. This is true because boys and girls are being prepared, even in play, to step into the roles and responsibilities of the adult world.
What is remarkable about the history of toys is not so much how they changed over the centuries but how much they have remained the same. It is the universality of toys about their development in all parts of the world and their continuing to the present that is amazing. In Egypt, the Americas, China, Japan and among the Arctic peoples, generally the same kinds of toys appeared. Nearly every civilization had dolls, little weapons, toy soldiers, tiny animals and vehicles.
Because toys can be generally regarded as a kind of art form, they have not been subject to (服从于) technological progress that characterizes inventions for adult use. The progress from the wheel to the oxcart to the automobile is a direct line of advancement. The progress from a rattle (拨浪鼓) used by a baby in 3,000 BC to one used by an infant today, however, is not characterized by inventiveness. Each rattle is the product of the artistic tastes of the times and subject to the limitations of materials then ready for use. (words: 285 ; time : 5ms)
(1)The reason why the toys most boys play with are different from those that girls play with is that ________ .
A.their social roles are strictly determined
B.most boys would like to follow their fathers' jobs

C.boys like to play with their fathers while girls with their mothers
D.they like challenging activities.
(2)"The universality of toys" lies in the fact that ________ .
A.technological advances have greatly improved the making of toys
B.the improvement of techniques in making toys depends on the efforts of universities
C.the exploration of the universe has led to the creation of new kinds of toys
D.the basic characteristics of toys are the same all over the world
(3)Regarded as a kind of art form, toys ________.
A.follow a direct line of development
B.also greatly interest adults
C.are not characterized by progress in technology
D.show the pace of social progress
