……感兴趣”be interested in,是固定短语。 故将of改为in

故将I’ll前的and去掉。

表示“有很长历史”have a long history,是固定短语,其中需要在long前面加上不定冠词a。故在long前加a

Therefore/Thus

故将was改为has

故将they改为it

One recent night while I was leafing through its pages of an old journal my eyes met a quote by the British writer Graham Greene that I had marked “A prejudice had something in common with an ideal.”In other words ideals—general descriptions of people's expectations of themselves and others—can often lead us to unreasonable ideas. It got me thinking about how we often allow ourselves to generalize about groups of people. We like to stereotype people by the color of their skin the year of their birth or any other related factors.

I grew up in a multi-racial corner of America. The different groups were often subject to narrow stereotypesJewish people were“greedy” Mexicans were“poorly educated” and Asians were“good at math”.These labels were taught to us from a young age. They wormed their way into our belief systems harming how we came to see others. It made me sad growing up to see people repeat these stereotypes as if they were true. The rush-to judgment of people breeds a culture of discrimination.

You can also see these over-generalized descriptions being made against today's Chinese people.Whether it be a lack of interest or worry among mile millennial being described as “monkish” or“dad-fashion”which has given the“greasy middle-aged men”tag.stereotypes always seem to gain a foothold in the consciousness of our society. But these generalizations do real harm as these myths may become part of the wider population.

It's about time that we as a society walked away from generalizations and stereotypes.I leave you with the words of Martin Luther King Jr.from his famous“I Have a Dream”speech“T look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”By reserving judgment and really getting to know the individual you might just find your irrational ideas have no foundation.

1According to the passage how do people tend to judge others?

A.By describing people's personalities.

B.By truly getting to know those around.

C.By observing their noticeable features.

D.By following Martin Luther King's speech.

2Examples of“millennial”and dad-fashion”are mentioned in Paragraph 3 to reveal .

A.generalizations have unfavorable position in society

B.generalizations have a negative influence on our society

C.generalizations are found peculiar to the middle-age Chinese

D.generalizations make today's Chinese people lack interest or worry

3The passage is mainly concerned with .

A.the common prejudice

B.people's expectation of themselves

C.the groundless worries

D.the famous speech of Martin Luther King Jr.

Participation in sports benefits health, encourages self-discipline, and develops character and teamwork. The positive effects of sport are well-known: improved body system and muscular fitness lower risk of obesity and depression, and an increased life quality. 1

Here is one-sports addiction. It may sound contradictory, because we usually reserve the word “addiction” for things that are bad for us, such as drug abuse or alcoholism.2Caused by the release of “happiness hormones(荷尔蒙)” after exercising, you can feel really “high” and be hooked on this feeling, which, like those produced by illegal drugs and alcohol, can be habit-forming.

Sports addiction is not taken seriously by everyone, though.3Sports addiction is, however, real and harmful.

Sport addicts share many symptoms with other sorts of addicts.4This is because they don't give them the chance to recover from working out. They have been so addicted to sports that they don't take time to recover from injuries. Chances of heart attacks and passing out increase, so sports addicts can put themselves at serious risk of harm.

5They become dependent on training for feeling good, and life away from training becomes dull. They can also develop tolerance to the “high”, and so need more and more exercise to get the same result. And when not exercising, they experience withdrawal effects, depression and anxiety.

A.They harm their bodies.

B.It may lead to physical injuries.

C.“There're worse things to be addicted to,” some people disagree.

D.Meanwhile, sport addicts may suffer withdrawal symptoms as well.

E.But there really is a sense in which you can become addicted to exercise.

F.Apart from physical damage, sport addicts suffer psychological damage too.

G.Based on all this good news, one might wonder whether there is any drawback.

When I was at college I wanted to improve my score of PE, so I persisted in exercising after school.

I did it one month but still get a poor result in the examination. What my PE teacher conveyed to me was where the key part was not exercise but body itself. She didn’t tell me direct, worrying that it might hurt your self-respect.

Even so, I didn’t give it up. In another excited examination of race, when it was started, I followed one guy and always kept paces with him. After the guy slowed down, I found another one to follow again. Finally I made it, but I got first in the race with my eyes filling with tears.

We spend 40 hours of our adult lives a week working, not including the time to and from the office. So it’s no surprise we become really good friends with our colleagues. We spend most of our time with them, after all. But times have changed and the way we talk to one another is ever-developing.

Now, many companies have internal instant messaging systems so that there’s less need to get up and walk round to speak to our colleagues. Emails fly around with numerous teams copied in, so everyone is in the loop (圈子). But what is the value of face-to-face conversation in the workplace?

New Zealand’s most admired wine brand. Villa Maria, knows the importance of conversation and how good communication can help strengthen a business from the inside out. Its newly launched campaign, called the Value of Conversation, explores what British people value the most about a face-to-face chat and how engaging with each other in person can make a difference in all areas of their lives.

Although nearly 1 in 5 British people find a quick email more efficient in their work, they still value the importance of speaking to their colleagues in real life and hearing their ideas, taking away any uncertainty and giving the opportunity for discussion. This is perhaps why, despite mostly preferring emails, nearly three-quarters of British people believe that speaking to people directly leads to better communication and improving work results.

Obviously, 85% of the people at the age of 18-24 believe that if someone is positive and confident during face-to-face conversations, it’s an indicator that they’re good at their job. So perhaps putting in a little extra effort to face-to-face conversations will pay dividends. If having a conversation in person could help you keep a pay rise, then it’ll be worth.

1What makes the ways of the communication among office colleagues change?

A.The order from their bosses.B.The laziness of the colleagues

C.The convenience of using emails.D.The preference to doing work alone.

2What is Villa Maria’s attitude towards face-to-face communication?

A.Doubtful.B.Positive.

C.Negative.D.Sympathetic.

3Why do many British people still like speaking to others directly while working?

A.It can improve the relationship with others.

B.It can save them much time.

C.It can make people communicate more easily than sending emails.

D.It can contribute to better communication and improving work results.

4What does the underlined phrase “pay dividends” in paragraph 5 mean?

A.Get rewards.B.Pay salaries.

C.Learn lessons.D.End relationships.

Michelle Obama’s autobiography, Becoming is on track to become the most successful memoir (回忆录) in modern publishing history, selling more than 10m copies to date, as life after the White House continues to prove commercial gold for brand Obama.

Thomas Rabe, chief executive of the German media group Bertelsmann, said the title was the book giant’s biggest success of the last year. “We believe that these memoirs could well become the most successful memoir ever,” he said.

Penguin Random House won a bidding war for the rights to Barack and Michelle Obama’s autobiographies in 2017, paying more than $ 65 million, a record for US presidential memoirs.

Becoming has been a global sales juggernaut since being launched in 31 languages in mid-November. The audio-book (有声读物), read by the former first lady, has become the fastest-ever seller put out by Penguin Random House.

Obama has been promoting her memoir with a hugely popular global tour. Her tour has also taken in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Paris and Amsterdam as well as the US and Canada.

Tickets for her first live appearance in the UK, at the Royal Festival Hall in December, sold out in minutes. Overall UK sales of Obama’s book currently stand at more than 600,000, ranking it 11th on the list of the best selling memoir and biographies since sales records began in 1998, according to Nielsen BookScan.

While Becoming is proving a modern bestseller, it has some way to go to match the lifetime performance of The Diary of Anne Frank, which was first published in English in 1952 and is estimated to have sold more than 35m copies in 65 languages.

Life beyond the US presidency has proved profitable for the Obamas. Last year the former president and first lady struck a deal with Netflix to produce TV series and films for the streaming service.

Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.

Space is a dangerous place, not only because of meteors (流星) but also because of rays from the sun and other stars. The atmosphere again acts 1 our protective blanket on earth. Light gets through, and this is essential for plants 2(make) the food which we eat. Heat, too, makes our environment endurable. Various kinds of rays come through the air from outer space, but enormous quantities of radiation from the sun 3 (screen) off. As soon as men leave the atmosphere, they are exposed to this radiation but their spacesuit or the walls of their spacecraft,4 they are inside, do prevent a lot of radiation damage.

Radiation is 5(great) known danger to explorers in space. The unit of radiation is called "rem". Scientists have reason to think that a man can put up with far more than 0.1 rem without 6(damage); the figure of 60 rems has been agreed on. The trouble is 7 it is extremely difficult to be sure about radiation damage - a person may feel perfectly well, but the cells of his or her sex organs may be damaged, and this will not be discovered 8 the birth of deformed children or even grandchildren. Missions of the Apollo flights have had to cross belts of high radiation and, during the outward and return journeys, the Apollo crew accumulated (积累) a large amount of rems. So far, no dangerous amounts of radiation have been reported, but the Apollo missions have been quite short. We simply don't know yet 9 men are going to get on when they spent weeks and months outside the protection of the atmosphere, working in a space laboratory. Drugs might help to decrease the damage 10(do) by radiation, but no really effective ones have been found so far.
