    Frank Hurley's pictures would be outstanding-undoubtedly first-rate photo-journalism-if they had been made last week．In fact，they were shot from 1914through 1916，most of them after a disastrous shipwreck （海难），by a cameraman who had no reasonable expectation of survival．Many of the images were stored in an ice chest，under freezing water，in the damaged wooden ship．

    As writer Caroline Alexander makes clear in her forceful and well-researched story The Endurance，adventuring was even then a thoroughly commercial effort．Scott's last journey，completed as he lay in a tent dying of cold and hunger，caught the world's imagination，and a film made in his honor drew crowds．Shackleton，a onetime British merchant-navy officer who had got to within 100miles of the South Pole in 1908，started a business before his 1914voyage to make money from movie and still photography．Frank Hurley，a confident and gifted Australian photographer who knew the Antarctic，was hired to make the images，most of which have never before been published．

    16．Suppose you don't need your car today．And suppose，as it happens，that a stranger in your area does need a car．Would you be willing to rent yours out？
    Severalcar-sharing start-ups，including Getaround，RelayRides and JustShareIt，are eager to conneccar owners with renters this way．The companies have different rules，but participating owners receive，generally speaking，about two-thirds of the rental earnings．RelayRides says an owner of a midsize，late-model sedan who rents out a car for 10hours a week could expect to clear about＄3，000a year．
    Peer-to-peer car sharing remains in the trial stage； it can be found in San Francisco and a few other places．It has a long way to go before it becomes the auto equivalent of Airbnb，the surprise success story for peer-to-peer sharing of space in apartments and houses．
    Shelby Clark，founder of RelayRides，says potential investors in his company have been concerned that owners will be afraid to hand their car over to strangers．To address that，he points to Airbnb，saying，"Letting people sleep in your living room is much more of a disturbance into your personal space than letting someone use your car．"
    All of these companies offer their own insurance coverage for their renters，which are supposed to put owners'minds at ease．But only two states-California and Oregon-have passed laws to clarify that an owner will not suffer any consequences should a car-sharing renter have an accident．
    "In all the other states，legal ambiguity remains，"Shelby Clark says．"If a renter should be involved in a serious accident in those states，the victim can be expected to go after every party possible，including the car's owner．"

    13．Life is filled with regrets．Ask anyone around you what their regrets are and they usually have no difficulty coming up with many items on their"regret list"．And for some reason our twenties are ripe for a field of regrets．Perhaps it's because as we get older we look back on that period of adulthood as the height of freedom and autonomy．As we move into middle age，we look back and wish that we had made better choices and taken more opportunities．Here's a list of things that we regret not doing in our 20s．
    1．Traveling more
    I regret not travelling more，and so does nearly everyone that I have asked．Before kids，and mortgages and marriages，when our commitments and expenses are lower，the opportunities for travel are much greater，but tor some reason many of us think we'd have time for travel later．We dreamed of visiting the pyramids of Egypt，surfing off the Hawaiian coast，dining at a Parisian café，drinking espresso in Rome，trekking through the rainforest，and so much more．Sadly，many of us never made these journeys and the opportunities passed by．
    2．Making an earlier investment
    How many times have we kicked ourselves for not starting our 40l Ks in our twenties，for not putting our excess cash in long term investment，for not investing in our future early．No matter how much we try，we can never get back to the head start that we have missed．Playing catch-up in our 40s and 50s is very difficult．
    3．Better planning
    I regret not focusing more on where I wanted to go in life，what I wanted to do，who I wanted to be and what it would take to get there．With some more planning in our 20s，we'd be further ahead in our 40s and perhaps a bit happier as well．
    4． ___________________________
    I wish I had learned to ski and paint，speak Italian and tango．I regret not living somewhere else before settling down．Others have said they regret not pursuing their hobbies or learning to skydive or climbing mountains．I prefer to stay on the ground，but I do regret not learning more，not trying new things．
    5．Pursuing a more meaningful career
    Many of us wish we had taken more career risks，opted for meaning over money，pursued the career path we wanted instead of what we were expected to do or simply following the path that was laid out before us．How much better to have explored our options and pursued meaningful work in our 20s than to have spent 20years doing something we don't love．
    Life is good； don't misunderstand．Few of us walk around every day pining for our youth，at least I hope not，but we do occasionally look back with a wistful sigh and wish that we had planned more，lived more，and stretched ourselves more when we had the freedom and energy to do so．
