Getting rid of the bad habit of procrastination (ÍÏÑÓÖ¢) is now my goal in life. My first step was to set small targets what can be reached realistically. For example, I plan to set a timetable for my study. So after school, I will put finishing homework in the last place. Additionally, I will make a list of my important task including their due dates but follow my schedule strictly. I will avoid find excuses for putting them off. At same time, I will ask for my friends and parents to help me. By achieving this small targets, I have confident that I will overcome procrastination.

The baby is just one day old and has not yet left hospital. She is quiet but alert (¾¯¾õ). Twenty centimeters from her face researchers have placed a white card with two black spots on it. She stares at it carefully. A researcher removes the card and replaces it by another, this time with the spots differently spaced. As the cards change from one to the other, her gaze (ÄýÊÓ) starts to lose its focus ¡ª until a third, with three black spots, is presented. Her gaze returns: she looks at it for twice as long as she did at the previous card. Can she tell that the number two is different from three, just 24 hours after coming into the world?
Or do newborns simply prefer more to fewer? The same experiment, but with three spots shown before two, shows the same return of interest when the number of spots changes. Perhaps it is just the newness? When slightly older babies were shown cards with pictures of objects (a comb, a key, an orange and so on), changing the number of objects had an effect separate from changing the objects themselves. Could it be the pattern that two things make, as opposed to three? No again. Babies paid more attention to squares moving randomly on a screen when their number changed from two to three, or three to two. The effect even crosses between senses. Babies who were repeatedly shown two spots became more excited when they then heard three drumbeats than when they heard just two; likewise (ͬÑùµØ) when the researchers started with drumbeats and moved to spots.
1.The experiment described in Paragraph 1 is related to the baby¡¯s ________.
A. sense of hearing B. sense of sight
C. sense of touch D. sense of smell
2.Babies are sensitive to the change in ________.
A. the size of cards
B. the color of pictures
C. the shape of patterns
D. the number of objects
3.Why did the researchers test the babies with drumbeats?
A. To reduce the difficulty of the experiment.
B. To see how babies recognize sounds.
C. To carry their experiment further.
D. To keep the babies¡¯ interest.
4.Where does this text probably come from?
A. Science fiction.
B. Children¡¯s literature.
C. An advertisement.
D. A science report.

Four great railway journeys
Travelling by rail holds a romantic and old-fashioned appeal that can¡¯t be matched by flying or driving. By taking the slow route, you get to experience and interact with an area in a completely different way.
The Rocky Mountaineer
Where: Canada, from Vancouver to Banff, Jasper and Calgary.
When: In June, which is springtime in the Rockies, complete with blooming flowers and abundant wildlife.
Duration: between two and eight days, travelling only in daylight, staying in luxury hotels.
Highlights: Splendid views of Rocky mountains, incredible luxury at every stage of the trip, traditional native storytelling, wine classes and natural history workshop.
The Chepe
Where: Mexico. It begins its journey in the mountains of Chihuahua and finishes on the Sinaloa coast.
When: In the rainy season, from June to October, you¡¯ll get lush vegetation(·á¸»µÄÖ²±») and blooming cacti(ÏÉÈËÕÆ),although mid-summer (July) temperatures can reach 44 ¡ãC.
Duration: Doing the route straight through takes 14 hours, but you¡¯ll want to stop off overnight and explore traditional towns along the way.
Highlights: The train winds its way down through 656 km of the spectacular Copper Canyon (which is deeper than the Grand Canyon), over 37 precarious-looking bridges and through 86 tunnels. Local people sell crafts and foods along the route.
The Ghan
Where: Australia, from Adelaide to Darwin via Alice Springs.
When: Going during the wet season (December, January) will allow you to see more wildlife and tropical splendour in the north, though peak season is usually the winter.
Duration: Going straight through takes 52 hours. There are disembarkation points(µÇ½µã) from which you can take tours.
Highlights: Going through Australia¡¯s Red Centre with cobalt-blue skies, red earth and not much else ¡ª a beautiful and serene(Äþ¾²µÄ) experience.
The Royal Scotsman
Where: Travels around the Scottish Highlands or all the way around Great Britain.
When: Warmer weather and up to 20 hours of daylight in June makes it the perfect time to watch ospreys soaring (ÓãÓ¥·ÉÏè) over mirror-like lochs(ºþ), or go in October for autumn colours and the rather vocal stag-rutting season.
Duration: Trips can be as short as two days or as long as seven. Highlights: Possibly the most expensive train journey in the world. You¡¯ll be treated like a member of the monarchy(»ÊÊÒ). Indulgent(·Å×ݵÄ) cuisine, fine wines and carriages that look like rooms at Balmoral Castle await those willing to part with a minimum of £2350 per person for a two-night trip.
1.Which of the following journey has the shortest duration?
A. The Chepe. B. The Ghan.
C. The Rocky mountaineer. D. The Royal scotsman.
2.Visitors may have the opportunity to try some wine in ________.

As you¡¯re busy with your studies, the weeks during the Spring Festival can be a time when training and healthy eating plans go out of the window. But you can continue running and avoid weight gain during the holiday season. 1.
Pick a race
Having a race on your calendar is a motivation to keep running during the holiday. 2.Check our active.com or Running in the city for events near you.
Don¡¯t skip breakfast
If you¡¯re going to a holiday party in the evening, don¡¯t make the mistake of skipping breakfast. You may think you¡¯re saving calories for later. 3.
Bring your own healthy dishes
Chances are that most of the dishes at holiday gatherings are going be high in taste and calories. Bring your own healthy appetizers to the party. The host will appreciate it, and you know where will be at least one wise choice on the buffet table.
4.
If you are heading to an evening event, eat regular meals and snacks every few hours until party time. You won¡¯t arrive at the party ready to attack appetizers. Make sure you include fiber at each meal because it keeps you full longer.
Plan your runs
It¡¯s easy to say that you¡¯ll keep running regularly during the holiday season, but sticking to it requires a strategy. Schedule your runs like appointments, so you make them the first thing during a busy week. 5.
A. Treat yourself
B. Eat small meals
C. Try some or all of these strategies.
D. In fact, it may lead to overeating later in the day.
E. Buy yourself a gift of some new running shoes and clothes.
F. If you have runs scheduled, you are more likely to get them done.
G. Once you choose one that is in a few weeks, set a plan and stick to it.

Bill Gates recently predicted that online learning will make place-based colleges less significant, and five years from now, students will be able to find the best lectures in the world online. I applaud Mr. Gates. But what¡¯s taking us so long?
As early as 1997, MIT(ÂéÊ¡Àí¹¤) decided to post videos of all university lectures online. for free, for all people. But today, how many students have you met who mastered advanced mathematics or nuclear physics from an MIT online video? Unfortunately, the answer is not many. The problem is the poor quality of online education websites and the experience they provide to students. Those who go to the MIT website and watch courses online are surely very smart people, but it¡¯s not like playing a video game such as World of Warcraft. Only the most ardent students, those who are highly motivated, will devote themselves to studying these boring online videos.
The real question is why we aren¡¯t spending more to develop better online education platforms. Where is the Avatar of education? Think about this. The market for Hollywood films per year is worth around 30 billion USD. Education in the world is a trillion-dollar-a-year market, hundreds of times bigger than Hollywood movies. Yet the most expensive digital learning system ever built cost well under 100 million dollars.
Bill Gates¡¯ prediction is going to happen. There is no doubt about it. But it will only happen when we create high level educational content and experiences that engage and excite more than has ever been possible in the real world.
1.What has Bill Gates forecast about online learning?
A. It will concentrate on physics lectures
B. It will completely replace real universities
C. It will help to make universities more successful
D. It will play an increasingly important role in education
2.What does the underlined word ¡°ardent¡± in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Creative B. Enthusiastic
C. Well-behaved D. Experienced
3.According to the author, what is holding back the popularity of online learning?
A. The lack of lectures available online
B. The high cost of access to the websites
C. The low standard of educational websites
D. The competition with online computer games
4.Why does the author mention Hollywood?
A. To show that Hollywood produces many successful movies
B. To prove that education is more profitable than entertainment
C. To argue that movie directors should produce educational content
D. To urge that more money be spent developing educational websites

Even if you think that your parents are mean-spirited(ÐÄÐØÏÁÕµÄ) at times, loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life. You love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part of a source of who you are. Here are some ways to love your parents.
1.. A gentle ¡°Good morning¡± and ¡°I love you¡± will warm a coldest heart. Remember that they brought you into this world. Without your parents ,you might still wander at an unknown corner in an unknown world. Respect them more and cherish these moments. You can use these moments to learn from them when you¡¯re off on your own. It¡¯s OK to get angry but angry actions don¡¯t help you or your parents . Act calmly, cool off, keep a journal about your feelings, or talk to a friend. 2. .
Obey their requests. It will make your attitude better and earn you more respect from them. It may seem like you are going through hell when you don¡¯t get what you want or you have to clean. However, you had better remember they keep a roof over your head when it¡¯s cold, raining, snowing, or too hot. Understand that parents are human beings and make mistakes.3. . Since you can forgive your friends, why not forgive your parents?
Keep company with them. Do things with your parents like watching TV, or go somewhere with them. 4..Listen to their old stories and learn from them. You will find they are your teachers in this way or another.
Some people simply may not be able to love their parents. 5.. Seek help if you are being abused(Å°´ý) in any way. Parents do not have a right to harm you.
A. Forgiveness is the key.
B. Tell them you love them every morning.
C. Parents will in turn express their love to you.
D. After this, share your feelings with your parents.
E. Anyway, spend as much time with them as you can.
F. Please remember parents are as important as friends.
G. There can be realistic reasons for this, family violence for example.
