7.Having a roommate can be one of the best experiences in college or,easily,one of the worst.Whether you've decided to room with a friend or a total stranger,the rules are still the same.If you want to have a good relationship with your roommate,it all starts with you.
Follow the four tips to avoid the common mistakes that turn good roommate relationships sour:
You've heard it before:Communication is key.If something happens,sit down with your roommate and have a face-to-face conversation.I've seen roommate relationships fall apart because something happens and,instead of talking to each other,the two start complaining about their roommates behind their backs.This method creates nothing but awkward situations and general unhappiness.
Some roommates become the best of friends,and some don't.don't'put pressure on yourself or your roommate to reach this level,especially when you first meet.Remember,you've trying to make a new friend,not scare your roommate away.And if your roommate doesn't end up being your best friend,don't worry about it.My first-year roommate and I didn't end up becoming best friends,but we are friends---and I couldn't have been happier with my roommate situation.
Everyone hates dirty places.If you make a mess,don't leave it for someone else to clean up.This should go without saying.Don't be a slob (懒汉).Make sure you do your fair share of dormitory chores,such as taking out the trash and recycling,and cleaning the washroom.Or,at last,just don't bury your roommate in your clothes and garbage and you should be all right.Most people I've encountered(遭遇)in college are messy.You don't have all the time in the world to clean your room and keep it organized.But being considerate with where you put your stuff will help you avoid conflict.
If you want to lose a friend,borrow everything without asking.If you want to keep the relationship going,show you roommate that you have respect for what is his or hers by asking first.Even if you both agree to share everything,you should still ask whenever you want to reach for snacks,clothes,supplies and anything else that you don't own.And upon moving into the dorm,you need to make clear which items you both feel comfortable sharing.
If you want a good roommate,you have to be a good roommate,Yes,there are exceptions.Sometimes being a good person and reaching out to your roommate simply isn't enough.Sometimes you get stuck with someone who has tons of negative energy or just isn't happy and doesn't want any sort of relationship.Whatever the case may be,the name of the game is always the same:respect.If you can't give it,you definitely don't deserve to get it.
Four(81)Tips/Suggestions/Ways to Be a Great Roommate
Dormitory life is a usually one of the most cherished parts of one's time at college.Get ready to avoid the common mistakes.
Have a friendly (82)conversation/talkInstead of burying your feelings or  (83)complaining about each other,you'd better communicate with your roommate frankly to get along well with each other.
Don't (84)expectthe roommates to be your best friends.Sharing the same dorm doesn't necessarily mean you have to be best friends for each other,but it's better to make a friend than an enemy to experience college (85)happily/positively/smoothly
Clean up after yourself.Or,at least,keep your mess on your side.It is believed that in a shared space,all roommates should help in keeping the room tidy instead of (86)putting/placing/imposing the burden on just one while the others do whatever they want.
Never take anything (87)withoutasking.To keep belongings safe and avoid fighting late,let each other know in a polite way if you have to share the other's items.This rule (88)applies to any situation.
If your work fails to win you a good roommate and you get (89)stuck with someone who doesn't appreciate your kindness,it is not the end of the world.No matter what happens,showing(90)respect always make sense.

When I was little, I always wanted a luxurious house. That was my idea to be successful. I took all the classes with full carefulness and tried to do well in the exams with my mind set on going to a key school. I just knew that I would somehow become famous and be able to afford the dream house. All the way through junior years, my mind was planning this wonderful future.

Then in the tenth grade, many losses changed my mind. First, one of my friends died at 16. Soon after, my great-grandmother passed away, followed by my beloved fourth-grade teacher. These events left me not knowing what to do or where to go. Death had never touched me so closely.

After a long period of emptiness, it finally struck me: Life is not promised and neither is future success. Though I was attempting to achieve material success, I was not enjoying my daily life. I realized that finding inner peace, purpose and happiness will stick with me forever and that is real success.

Enjoying life's precious quirks(偶发事件) makes an ordinary person more successful than a wealthy person who isn't content and takes everything for granted. The summer before senior years, my attitude changed greatly. Instead of memorizing facts, I began learning skills. Instead of focusing on the future, I focused on today and the many blessings and successes that came with it.

I still get excellent grades, but now I devote weeks to studying instead of struggling for exams, and I think about the future with a deeper sense of meaning. For me, being successful means truly living life each day.

1.What’s the idea of success for the author at first?

A. Getting a great house B. Taking classes carefully

C. Doing well in the exams D. Being famous

2.Why did the author change his idea to be successful?

A. His beloved teacher was dead

B. He lost a few beloved persons in a short time

C. He couldn’t afford a house

D. He didn't know how to fight for the house

3.According to the passage, which of the following is true?

A. His teacher died before the death of his grandpa

B. He thought that life and success were not promised

C. He failed the exams after he changed his attitude

D. He didn’t want to achieve material success any longer

4.What does the author wants to tell the readers?

A. Material success is unnecessary

B. He was glad that he changed his mind

C. Set goals and work hard to be successful

D. Cherish every moment and truly live life

I have a friend who lives by a three-word philosophy: Seize the moment. Just possibly, she may be the wisest woman on this planet. Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it. Don't have it on their schedule, and didn't know it was coming or they are too strict to depart from their routine.

I can't count the times I called my sister and said, “How about going to lunch in half an hour?” She would gasp and stammer(结结巴巴地说), “I can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known it yesterday, I had a late breakfast, and it looks like rain.” And my personal favorite response: “It's just Monday.” She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible.

Life has a way of going faster as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises made to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we are awaken, and all have to show for our lives is repetition of “I'm going to”, “I plan on” and “Someday, when things are settled down a bit.”

When anyone calls my “seize the moment” friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for a while, and you're ready to change your attitude to life.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy. Now go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to, not something on your SHOULD DO list.

1.The example of the writer's sister serves as ________.

A. an argument B. an introduction

C. a support D. a conclusion

2.The writer thinks that the underlined excuse “It's just Monday.” is acceptable, because ________.

A. it is still likely that they can have lunch together some time later

B. it sounds most reasonable of all the excuses

C. it shows respect for the writer's suggestion

D. it indicates the time when they can have lunch together

3.The underlined word “contagious” in the fourth paragraph means “________”.

A. accurate B. influential

C. hopeful D. necessary

4.What is the purpose of the writer by writing this passage?

A. To suggest how time flies.

B. To persuade busy people to relax.

C. To advise people to keep their promise.

D. To convince readers to be flexible on their schedule for practical joy.
