【题目】Clara Barton, born on Christmas in 1821, is widely known as one of the most honored women in American history. She began teaching school when most teachers were men at that time. Later, she became one of the first women ever to be employed by the government.
Her career in helping the sick began when her brother David became her first patient. He fell down from the roof of a house when Clara was just 11 years old. She stayed by his side and looked after him for three years, learning how to give him all his medicines.
When the Civil War began in 1861, she immediately recognized that the poorly equipped soldiers needed help. Instead of waiting for others to step in, Clara collected necessary things on her own, asked the public for donations and learned how to store and distribute them to soldiers. She also read to the soldiers and wrote letters for them.
After the Battle of Cedar Mountain in northern Virginia in 1862, Clara arrived at a field hospital at midnight with a vehicle full of supplies. A doctor named Paul Smith at that hospital would later write, “I thought heaven had sent out an angel that night — her assistance arrived at exactly the right time.”
In 1869, Clara went to Europe and learned about the International Committee of the Red Cross. Upon her return to the United States, she successfully founded the American Red Cross. She led the organization for the next 23 years. Her last field mission (使命) as president of the American Red Cross was to help the victims of the 1900 Galveston hurricane. She did not retire (退休) from the American Red Cross until she was 83. True to her nature, Clara always went to where the need was the greatest.
Today, the American Red Cross continues the mission Clara started more than 100 years ago. With the help of thousands of volunteers, the American Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters, as well as helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to all sorts of emergencies.

A strong memory depends on the health and vitality (活力) of your brain. They say that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but when it comes to the brain, scientists have discovered that this old saying simply isn’t true. 【1】
Give your brain a workout. Memory, like muscular strength, requires you to “use it or lose it”. The more you work out your brain, the better you’ll be able to process and remember information. 【2】
Don’t skip the physical exercise. While mental exercise is important for brain health, that doesn’t mean you never need to break a sweat. Physical exercise helps your brain stay sharp. It increases oxygen to your brain and reduces the risk for disorders that lead to memory loss.
Get enough sleep. There is a big difference between the amount of sleep you can get by on and the amount you need to function at your best. 【3】
Keep stress in check. Stress is one of the brain’s worst enemies. Over time, stress destroys brain cells. Studies have also linked stress to memory loss.
Have a laugh. 【4】 That holds true for the brain and the memory, as well as the body. Unlike emotional responses, which are limited to specific areas of the brain, laughter engages multiple regions across the whole brain.
【5】 Just as the body needs fuel, so does the brain. You probably already know that a diet based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, “healthy” fats and lean protein will provide lots of health benfits, but such a diet can also improve memory. For brain health, though, it’s not just what you eat—it’s also what you don’t eat.
A. Eat a brain-boosting diet.
B. Play games with memory.
C. Laughter is the best medicine.
D. But oversleeping is not good for your brain.
E. Even skipping a few hours makes a difference!
F. You have to shake things up from time to time!
G. The human brain has an astonishing ability to adapt and change.

【题目】书面表达(共1小题)
阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的作文。
A young man was slapped in the face until he bled because he didn’t offer his seat to a woman with a baby on a bus in downtown Hangzhou.Later he was proved to be a disabled person.
In a series of cases nationwide, we see people being beaten for refusing to give up their seats on public transport, which seems to be a moral problem about correct behavior and self-sacrifice.
People without morals (who don’t give up their seats to deserving people) can be condemned, but they don’t deserve to be treated with violence because they offend moral values and not laws.In comparison, the attackers behave worse.
The attackers regard relying on violence as their only choice if people ignore their appeals to give up their seats. It seems they start a shout or a fight for the sake of justice, but can they still think of their personal intention when they call violent justice?
This “violent justice” can confuse many people and encourage them to do the same, especially when we are overpowered by illogical mood.
If cruel and rude acts are rooted in children’s hearts, society will never step into civilization. The practice violates common values, neither solving problems nor safeguarding civilized society.

It has been three years since I start learning English. At first I found its quite difficult. I couldn’t pronounce words well, spell correct and remember the rules of grammar. With the help of my teacher, I have made a great progress. Now I am getting well with my English. Three years’ study have taught me that one cannot learn English well with hard work.
