Doctors are known to be terrible pilots. They don't listen because they already know it all. I was lucky: became a pilot in 1970, almost ten years before I graduated from medical school. I didn't realize then, but becoming a pilot makes me a better surgeon. I loved flying. As I flew bigger, faster planes, and in worse weather, I learned about crew resource management (»ú×é×ÊÔ´¹ÜÀí), or CRM, a new idea to make flying safer. It means that crew members should listen and speak up for a good result, regardless of positions.

I first read about CRM in 1980. Not long after that, an attending doctor and I were flying in bad weather. The controller had us turn too late to get our landing ready. The attending doctor was flying; I was safety pilot .He was so busy because of the bad turn, he had forgotten to put the landing gear (ÆðÂä¼Ü) down. He was a better pilot - and my boss - so it felt unusual to speak up. But I had to: Our lives were in danger. I put aside my uneasiness and said, "We need to put the landing gear down now!" That was my first real lesson in the power of CRM, and I've used it in the operating room ever since.

CRM requires that the pilot/surgeon encourage others to speak up. It further requires that when opinions are from the opposite, the doctor doesn't overreact, which might prevent fellow doctors from voicing opinions again. So when I'm in the operating room, I ask for ideas and help from others. Sometimes they're not willing to speak up. But I hope that if I continue to encourage them , someday someone will keep me from ¡°landing gear up¡±.

In general, people talk about two groups of colors: warm colors and cool colors. Researchers in psychology think that there are also two groups of people: people who prefer warm colors and people who prefer cool colors.

The warm colors are red, orange and yellow. Where there are warm colors and a lot of light, people usually want to be active. People think that red, for example, is exciting. Sociable people, those who like to be with others, like red. The cool colors are green, blue and violet. These colors, unlike warm colors, are relaxing. Where there are cool colors, people are usually quiet. People who like to spend time alone often prefer blue.

Red may be exciting, but one researcher says that time seems to pass more slowly in a room with warm colors than in a room with cool colors. He suggests that a warm color, such as red or orange is a good color for a living room or restaurant. People who are relaxing or eating do not want time to pass quickly. Cool colors are better for offices or factories if the people who are working there want time to pass quickly. Researchers do not know why people think some colors are warm and other colors are cool.

However, almost everyone agrees that red, orange, and yellow are warm and that green, blue, and violet are cool. Perhaps warm colors remind people of warm days and the cool colors remind them of cool days. Because in the north the sun is higher during summer, the hot summer sunlight appears yellow.

1.Which of the following colors belong to cool colors?

A. Blue, violet B. Yellow, green

C. Black, blue. D. Brown, white

2.Which of the following statements is not true?

A. Sociable people like warm colors.

B. Warm colors can make people excited.

C. People who like to be with others don¡¯t like red.

D. Where there are warm colors, people want to be active.

3.Which is the right color for different rooms?

A. Red or orange for offices.

B. Orange for dining rooms.

C. Blue for bedrooms.

D. Red for studies

4.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

A. Two groups of colours B. Cool colours

C. Warm colours D. Colours and people

Nowadays parents and their children are spending less and less time communicating with each other. 1. . It is reported that American parents today spend about 40 percent less time with their children than parents did a generation ago. To keep your family time creative and enjoyable, below is a list of helpful family time tips.

1. Eat together & listen to each other

Most children today don¡¯t know the meaning of a family dinnertime. Yet the communication and unity built during this time is necessary to a healthy family life. Sharing a meal together allows parents and their children the opportunity to talk about each other¡¯s lives. 2. .

2. Read often

It¡¯s important for parents to read to their children. The latest research shows that reading to your children develops an interest in knowledge and contributes to language development. It also increases their concentration on things and helps them become more curious. 3. . After reading, ask questions about what the books are about.

3. Start a hobby or project

Choose a fun activity that your children are interested in. Activities like cooking, fishing or biking can be their great hobbies. 4. . Once a child learns a new skill, let him or her take the lead under your direction.

4. Plan a family outing.

5. . Jump into the family car and go for a drive. Prepare a picnic lunch and visit a local park. Take time to play or ride a bike. A slow and relaxing walk in the woods will help parents communicate with their children better. Also, a visit to the zoo or museum will inspire enthusiasm in a child and lead to long discussions.

A. It is very important for children to exercise.

B. They can open the door to exciting family time.

C. Sometimes getting out of the house is of much importance.

D. Look for books that your children would enjoy reading.

E. Children are burdened with too much homework.

F. This is also a time for parents to listen and give advice to their children.

G. As a result, many children are getting less love than their parents once got.
