    Dear Mike,
    Nice to hear from you again. As you know, this winter vacation, at the end of February, 2010, we winners of NEPC will go to a five-day English Winter Camp in Beijing. Some English teachers from China, the USA, England and Australia will join us.
    In the camp, we will have some English speaking competitions, watch some wonderful performances given by the students and visit some places of interest in Beijing. Besides, we will exchange our English learning experience and talk about our colorful school life in English. I think this winter camp will greatly improve my spoken English and I will make some new friends there.
    I do hope you will come and join us.

    There is a growing debate about the most effective way for students to study.  Traditionally studying alone was thought to be the best way to ensure good exam results. When studying alone you can focus your mind better than when you are with others. You also have the freedom to choose what topic to study and when, as you don't need file agreement of others. Students that prefer to study alone often say that when they study with their classmates they waste a lot of time because the discussion is often about non-study topics such as television or holidays.
    In the last few years, however, more and more students have started studying in groups. There are several reasons many students prefer this method. First, they find that studying is more fun as they can share the experience with others rather than staying in their rooms.  In groups, they can discuss the subject together and when something is not understood they can ask each other questions. They can use the knowledge of their classmates to help improve their own knowledge.  Finally by discussing the topic they are able to both understand and remember it better.

    “In addition to teaching here, I also teach at a smaller high school 17 miles down the freeway from where I live. One day a few weeks ago I was driving to that school when my car broke down just after I exited the freeway. I was only about a quarter of a mile away from the school so I grabbed my books, and started walking.”
    “As soon as I got there I called a repairman to meet me at my car after class. One of my colleagues asked me what had happened. ‘This is my lucky day,’ I replied, smiling.”
    “ ‘Your car breaks down and today is your lucky day?’ She was puzzled. ‘What do you mean?’ ”
    “I live 17 miles from here.” I replied. “My car could have broken down anywhere along the freeway. It didn't. Instead, it broke down in the perfect place: off the freeway, within walking distance of here. I'm still able to teach my class, and I've been able to arrange for the repairman to meet me after class. If my car was meant to break down today, it couldn't have been arranged in a more convenient fashion.”
    I once read somewhere before that every morning when you get up, you have a choice about how you want to approach life that day. And this is what I choose --- to be cheerful.

    There is a story telling of a religious master who is said to be capable of moving mountains. A man came to him asking for a demonstration (证明). Meanwhile he spent his spare time exchanging experience and skills in painting. His works finally won acclamation by expert painters and were on sale in art gallery and grand hotels. He had his collections published and his dream of becoming a painter came true at last.
