    　　Re searcher s have di scovered that the combined effect of the damage to several part s of the brain make s victim s lengthen certain syllable, mi spronounce sound s, and change the normal pitch(音高)of their voice．Tho se change s in speech add up to what sound s like a foreign accent．

    　　Another re searcher, a phonetician, say s victim s of the syndrome don't acquire a true foreign accent．Their strangely changed speech only re semble s the foreign accent with which it ha s a few sound s in common．

    As parents, we like to make sure that our children are eating well and getting all the nutrients(营养)they need. Children need two to three kinds of vegetables every day.

    A simple way to get our children to eat vegetables is by eating them ourselves. Following our example, they may start eating vegetables themselves. Don't say things like, "If you eat your vegetables, you can have dessert. "These methods work for a little while but can possibly lead them to hate vegetables more. Give your children new varieties of foods which will help them develop a taste for trying new things.

    Sometimes the simple things just don't work. We have to start becoming a little creative to make our children eat vegetables. By doing this in the beginning when children are small, we will help them learn to love vegetables.

    Think of creative ways to make children eat vegetables. For example, cut up vegetables like carrots, cucumbers and place them in a creative way on a plate for an afternoon snack(零食). Or try using cheese sauce either by dipping(蘸) the vegetables in it or by putting the cheese right on top of cooked or raw vegetables.

    If you prefer, you can also add a teaspoon (茶匙)of sugar on top of cooked green beans and peas to make them taste a little sweeter. Doing this shouldn't lead to a sweet tooth as long as you only give them a small amount.

    If you have children that refuse to eat vegetables, some of these suggestions I've listed will help to turn that around. In the end, you're not only just getting them to eat vegetables, you're also helping them to live a healthier lifestyle.

         The 17-year-old made the record after he cleared the Panama Canal ( 巴拿马运河) and then sailed through the Caribbean and home across the Atlantic.

         Mike is only three months younger than Zac Sunderland. the 17-year-old American boy who had taken the crown as the youngest solo around-the-world sailor in July.

         Mike may be young, but he is no stranger to sailing adventures. He picked up the hobby at age 6 when his father took him out in a small boat on a local lake. Father and son sailed separate boats across the Atlantic when Mike was 14, making him the youngest person to cross that ocean solo. That record gave him the taste for this even greater challenge.

         On the recent journey. the scariest moment for Mike came when his sailboat was hit by storms in the southem Indian Ocean.

         "We were picked up by what felt like a 60-foot wave and threw down on our side at 90 degrees," he said.

         "It felt like I was going right over. Stuff was flying around and I just thought 'Oh no'".

         At other times, he had to dive into the Pacific and fix problems. He tied himself to the boat, jumped into the water and went to work with a knife in 30-second dives undemeath (在......之下) the boat to cut a rope away.

        Bernice Gallego sat down one day this summer, as she
    does pretty much every day, and began listing items on eBay.
    She dug into a box and pulled out a baseball card. She stopped
    for a moment and admired the picture. "Red Stocking B.B Club
    of Cincinnati," the card read, under the reddish brown color
    photo of lo men with their socks pulled up to their knees. 
        As a collector and seller, it's her job to spot old items that
    might have value today. It's what Bernice, 72, and her husband,
    Al Gallego, 80, have been doing since 1974 at their California
    antique (古玩) store.
         This card, she figured, was worth selling on eBay. She took a picture, wrote a description and put it up for
    auction (拍卖). She put a $10 price tag on it, deciding against $15 because it would have cost her an extra 20
    cents. Later that night she got a few odd inquiries-someone wanting to know whether the card was real,
    someone wanting her to end the auction and sell him the card immediately.
         The card is actually 139 years old. Sports card collectors call the find "extremely rare" and estimate the card
    could fetch five, or perhaps, six figures at auction.
         Just like that, Bernice is the least likely character ever for a rare-baseball card story. "I didn't even know
    baseball existed that far back," Gallego says, "I don't think that I've ever been to a baseball game." The theory is
    that the card came out of a storage space they bought a few years back. It is not uncommon in their line of work
    to buy the entire contents of storage units for around $200.
         When she met with card trader Rick Mirigian, she found out what the card was-an 1869 advertisement with
    a picture of the first professional baseball team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings.
         "When I came to meet her and she took it out of a sandwich bag and she was smoking a cigarette, I almost
    fainted," Mirigian says. "They've uncovered a piece of history that few people will ever be able to imagine. That
    card is history. It's like unearthing a Mona Lisa or a Picasso."
