3.SINCE it's home to a famous university,a lot of people think Oxford,an English city west of London,is very wealthy. In fact, that's not quite the case. Many neighborhoods in and around Oxford are quite poor Children in these areas often don't have the best opportunities  in life. Some of them never even get to go 0n holiday.
While a student at university,I ran a charity called Vacproj   (short for"Vacation Project")that helped such children go on holiday.Over a year,we raised money  by writing letters to businesses and standing in the street with buckets(桶),We managed to pay for 36 children to go on a holiday. They were aged from about 6 to 11 years old.Altogether, this cost more than 25,000 pounds  (232,100yuan).
These holidays took place every summer a part of England called Sussex.Around 20 students from my university volunteered to help.Every day,we went on a different trip:one day it was ice-skating,another time we went to the zoo.One day, went on a trip to a castle. We told them old legends(传说) of the ghosts who lived there and all the kings and queens who had passed through,All these trips required a lot of preparations. For example,on a climbing trip we had to teach the kids about safety and how to use  ropes.
The holiday was by far the most tiring experience of my life.Every day,I had to wake up at 6 am,and  I didn't get to  bed until l am.The children never, ever ran out  of energy, and we were responsible for all of  them Some of the kids were very naughty; others refused to eat  certain kinds of  food. There were always problems to deal with.We had to be their parents for the week, and care for them as parents would.
Though the trip may have been very tiring,it was also the best I've ever been on.At every new tourist site, the kids eyes lit up with excitement. They were very funny, and weren't afraid of making fun of us. We left the holiday with a new perspectiveon life; children may be the most tiring people in the world, but they're also the most interesting.

19.Many of the world's countries have reached or are approaching zero population growth (ZPG).Nearly all such lands are economically well developed.They include much of Europe(including Russia),the United States,Canada,Japan.and Australia.As the rate of natural increase(RNI)declines,two things happen.First,the population begins to decline if the loss is not balanced by immigration.Second,a country's population ages because there are fewer births.
Is achieving ZPG good or bad? What happens when a country's population begins to drop? Many people, after all, believe that population decline is a good thing. But is it good for everyone?Does everyone agree?
An aging population can create many problems.Senior citizens require more health care and medical attention.Rather than paying into retirement programs,they begin to draw from their pensions.In the US,the Social Security program,according to many experts,will be used up by 2018.It will pay out more money than it takes in.Additionally,a great number of jobs go begging in search of people willing or entry level positions that pay low wages.With an able to do them.Many of these jobs are aging population,who will fill them?At the other extreme,some positions require a large number of training and highly specialized skills.Who will fill these positions as retirees leave the workforce?
The answer to the problem of declining and aging population is simple:increased migration.
Today many people,particularly those from less developed countries,are migrating in search of employment.Many are willing to take jobs that cannot(or will not) be filled by the domestic population.Others are well educated and highly skilled.Both groups contribute to a country's economy progress in many ways.Further,they add to the richness of a country's culture.Of greatest importance,perhaps,is the fact that they have become absolutely necessary to the economy of many lands.As you can see,for many countries and for most immigrants,migration is a win-win situation.

29.In the writer's view,which of the following statements is TRUE?C
A.Not everyone agrees that achieving ZPG is absolutely good
B.Achieving ZPG is every country's aim in spite of its side effects
C.Achieving ZPG is bad for senior citizens
D.Achieving ZPG is good for employment
30.According to the passage,the best way to solve the problem of declining and aging population isD.
A.to improve the health care system
B.to increase RNI
C.to increase employment
D.to increase migration
31.The main idea of the last paragraph isA.

C.how to increase migration

11.Back those photos up
The images were striking.Homes on the East Coast were washed away by Superstorm Sandy.People were in tears,picking up faded photographs,among their only remaining possessions.
If that doesn't move you to get serious about safekeeping your lifetime of memories,what will?The digital age offers tools never imaginable before-including one-click access to a lifetime of family photos.
Here is a brochure on how to back up (存) your photos and save them online, where they can live forever and be accessible in good times and bad.
Scanning
The first step for those old photos is to scan them and save them to a digital format.Most printers come with scanners these days,so that's an easy but extremely time-consuming step.
Storing the photos
With your scans in place, import the photos into your computer, and back them up.
You could make multiple copies of the disks and spread them to loved ones.Or you could choose external(外接的) hard drives or USB thumb drive,and add your photo and video collection from your computer.
Online backup
If you need lots of space, look at a pure online backup service,Caronite.
Caronite backs up 300million files daily.Once you sign up,it starts to pick up everything you have on your hard drive.But photo collection on your computer's main hard drive charges for﹩59a year.
Cloud Storage
For folks who don't need automatic backup,but instead want to take a more active approach,Dropbox,Google Drive and Microsoft's SkyDrive let you store files online by yourself,share and instantly access them.All offer free options-2GB of free storage for Dropbox,5GB for Google and 7GB for SkyDrive.But if you want more,you need to pay.
Bottom Line
The hard drive or flash drive is the cheapest and easiest.But drives can fail.Online services are more expensive,but more secure.With more of us switching back and forth between our computers,such services are the best way to get access to our data from wherever we are.

59.Why does the author mention Superstorm Sandy?B
A.To tell the background of the scanning photos.
B.To attract the readers'interest in the backups.
C.To describe a severe natural disaster.
D.To win the readers'sympathy.
60.What can we know from the passage?B
A.Scanning photos takes little time but costs a lot.
B.Caronite charges for backing up photos from hard drive.
C.Google Drive offers unlimited free photo storage on line.
D.The hard drive or flash drive is the cheapest and safest.
61.Which of the following allows storing files automatically?A
A.Caronite.B.Dropbox.

C.describe the functions of storage services

18.Does money buy happiness?Not!Ah,but would a little more money make us a little happier?Many of us smirk(傻笑,假笑) and nod.There is,we believe,some connection between financial fitness and emotional fulfillment.Three in four American college students-nearly double the 1970 proportion-now consider it"very important"or"essential"that they become"very well off financially".Money matters.
But a surprising fact of life is that in countries where nearly everyone can afford life's necessities,increasing wealth matters surprisingly little.The connection between income and happiness is"surprisingly weak,"observed University of Michigan researcher Ronald Inglehart in one 16-nation study of 170,000people.Once comfortable,more money provides diminishing returns(报酬递减).The second piece of pie,or the second﹩100,000,never tastes as good as the first.Even lottery winners and the Forbes'100 wealthiest Americans surveyed by University of Illinois psychologist Ed Diener have expressed only slightly greater happiness than the average American.Making it big brings temporary joy.But in the long run wealth is like health:its complete absence can create suffering, but having it doesn't guarantee happiness.Happiness seems less a matter of getting what we want than of wanting what we have.
Has our happiness, however, floated upward with the rising economic tide? Are we happier today than in 1940s,when two out of five homes lacked a shower or tub?Actually,we are not.Since 1957,the number of Americans who say they are"very happy"has declined from 35 to 32 percent.Meanwhile, the divorce rate has doubled, the teen suicide(自杀) rate has increased nearly three times, the violent crime rate has gone up nearly four times, and depression has mushroomed.Economic growth has provided no boost to human morale. When it comes to psychological well being,it is not the economy.
I call this soaring wealth and shrinking spirit"the American paradox."More than ever,we have big houses and broken homes, high incomes and low confidence, secured rights and reduced civility. We are good at making a living but often fail at making a life.We celebrate our prosperity(繁荣) but long for a purpose. We treasure our freedoms but long for connection. In an age of plenty,we feel spiritual hunger.

63.Which of the following statements best expresses the author's view?C
