【解析】Athens, one of the most important cities in the ancient world, is now the capital of modern Greece. The old city was inland, several miles from the sea. By now, the city has grown so big that it even includes its old port. Athens is a beautiful city, with many old buildings. The most famous is probably a huge temple to the goddess Athena, who gave the city its name. The building is called the Parthenon. The temple stands on the Acropolis, which is a sort of hill in the middle of the city where the temples were. Many of them, including the Parthenon, are over two thousand years old. Athens is a very modern city now. Many of its residents speak both English and Greek regularly. Most young people in Athens are very proud of their old city, though, with its beautiful Acropolis lit up at night.
