The Harmonious Campus Project has become part of the education in our school£®As for students, how should we behave ourselves£¿

The Harmonious Campus Project has become part of the education in our school. As for students, how should we behave ourselves?

In our daily life, it is essential for us to form some good habits. First of all, we should be honest and faithful to others. Never tell lies or cheat in examinations. Secondly. Respect each other and when someone is in trouble, offer our helpful had to others. Don¡¯t be selfish or hurt others¡¯ feelings when talking. Thirdly we have to avoid some bad habits, such as being late for school, throwing rubbish here and there or spitting in public, I general, it¡¯s our duty to protect our own environment.

In my opinion, no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. We all hope that we will be civilized students, behaving in accordance with school regulations and do as much as we can to build our school into a harmonious campus.

Most Americans believe that someone isn¡¯t grown-up until the age of 26 and they should complete their education, have a full-time job, have a family to support and be financially independent. They also believe that becoming a real grown-up is a process which begins at about the age of 20 and takes about five years, according to the report from the University of Chicago¡¯s National Opinion Research Center.

The findings are based on a representative sample of 1,398 people over the age of 18 who were surveyed in person. The survey found that people expect the transitions to grown-up status to be completed at the following ages: age 20.9 self-supporting; age 21.1 no longer living with parents; age 21.2 having a full-time job; age 22.3 education completed; age 24.5 being able to support a family financially; age 25.7 getting married;  and age 26.2 having a child.

¡°There is a large degree of agreement across social groups on the relative importance of the seven transitions,¡± said Tom Smith, director of the survey. The only obvious pattern of differences is on views about supporting a family, having children and getting married. Older adults consider these more important than younger adults do. This probably shows in large part a change in values across generations away from traditional family values. The most valued step toward reaching adulthood, the survey found, is completing education, followed by full-time employment, supporting a family, financial independence, living independently, and marriage.

According to the first paragraph, someone is a grown-up when he _______.

A. has found a full-time job

B. has finished his study in university

C. can make money and support himself after completing his education

D. can support a family and be financially independent after graduation

A young man of 24 may be busy ________.

A. finding a job               B. finding a girl friend

C. making money             D. preparing for his wedding

The underlined word ¡°status¡± in the second paragraph probably means ¡°________¡±.

A. position       B. rank        C. level       D. situation

From the passage, we learn that _________.

A. being grown-up is just a matter of age

B. being grown-up is a process which takes some time

C. all people think completing education means being grown-up

D. the survey found everyone had a different view about being grown-up

The best title for the passage should be ¡°________¡±

A. It takes a long time to grown up.

B. Are we grown-up yet?

C. Getting married means being grown-up.

D. Completing education means being grown-up.

Animals are natural resources that people have wasted all through our history.

Animals have been killed for their fur and feathers, for food, for sport, and simply because they were in the way. Thousands of kinds of animals have disappeared from the world forever. Hundreds more are on the danger list today. About 170 kinds in the United States alone are considered in danger.

Why should people care? Because we need animals. And because once they are gone, there will never be any more.

Animals are more than just beautiful and interesting. They are more than just a source of food. The most important is that every animal has its place in the balance of nature. Destroying one kind of animal can create many problems.

For example, when farmers killed large numbers of hawks(ÀÏÓ¥), the farmers stores of corn and grain were destroyed by rats and mice. Why? Because hawks eat rats and mice. With no hawks to keep down their numbers, the rats and mice multiplied(·±Ö³) quickly.

Luckily, some people are working to help save the animals. Some groups raise money to let people know about the problem. And they try to get the governments to pass laws protecting animals in danger.

Quite a few countries have passed laws. These laws forbid the killing of any animals or plants on the danger list. Slowly, the number of some animals in danger is growing.

41. Animals are important to us mainly because ______.

       A. they give us a source of food                         B. they are beautiful and lovely

       C. they keep the balance of nature                      D. they give us a lot of pleasure

42. What has happened to the animals on the earth?

       A. Hundreds of kinds of animals have disappeared forever.

       B. Many kinds of animals have died out.

       C. About 170 kinds of animals have disappeared forever.

       D. All kinds of animals are in danger.

43. Which of the following is NOT true?

       A. People care much about animals because they need them.

       B. Once a certain kind of animals is gone forever, there will never be any more.

       C. Killing all rats and mice may cause some problems.

       D. People must not kill any animals.

44. What can we infer from the fact that quite a few countries have passed laws protecting animals

   in danger?

       A. Every person will know the importance of protecting wild animals.

       B. Animals in danger will not be killed any more.

       C. The number of some animals in danger will increase.

       D. Animals in danger will be kept away from people.

Generations of children who sat through endless lessons of "chalk and talk" in front of a bossy teacher could take some relief. But the "chalk and talk" method helped them achieve better exam results. Modern classroom techniques may make school days a great deal happier, but contentment(ÂúÒâ) is not the road to success in examinations, according to university researchers.

Their three-year study, monitoring the progress of 2,000 teenagers, tried to measure the influence of the "boredom factor" in 17 selected schools in the north of England. The researchers also found that the old-fashioned approach of teachers ordering pupils about is still alive and producing results. Their conclusions were welcomed yesterday by educationists who were worried by the shift to less formal lessons.

The pupils in the latest study were asked to award teachers marks to measure how frequently they followed or ignored today's fashion for "child-centred" education. A five-point scale was given to spot the teachers who always told them what they should know and what to write down. "It was significant and not something you would get by chance or accident. Certainly, when you compare the pupil's interest and attitude to school, there is a quite definite and highly significant difference," one of the researchers said. But the rankings were turned upside down when the team of four researchers looked at how the children did in examinations. The sort of methods now frowned upon (²»ÈÏͬ) actually improve the final grades.

The researchers said, "There is nothing wrong with old-fashioned, didactic(˵½ÌʽµÄ) teaching in the right place, even if it isn't the flavor at the moment." However, he insisted the best teachers had always mixed the two techniques to match the needs of pupils, although certain examinations forced some to concentrate more on dictation and learning by rote(ËÀ¼ÇÓ²±³).

71. We can infer from Paragraph 3 that ______.

A. child-centred education promotes friendship among children

B. the research findings are not significant enough for a conclusion

C. those who show greater interest in school did better in exams

D. those who don't show much interest in school may turn out to score higher in tests

72. The researchers suggest that ______.

A. more old methods be used in teaching

B. students be taught how to score high in exams

C. dictation be used as one of the best teaching methods

D. old and new methods be used together

73. The best title for this text would be ______.

A. The Examination-based Teaching            B. Rote Learning Was the Winner

C. The Problem of Child-centred Education D. The Problem of the Traditional Method
