Dear editor,
I¡¯m writing to tell you about the discussion we held on whether it is good to keep animals in zoos. Those who favor the idea think it provides chances for people to see wild animals. It might also develop people¡¯s love for animals and nature. Besides, animals in zoos can be protected from danger in the wild.
However, those who are against the idea think that it¡¯s a waste of money and labor to keep animals in the zoo. It¡¯ll also damage the balance of nature. Animals will lose their freedom if caged in the zoo. I personally feel it is wrong to take animals away from their natural living areas and keep them locked up.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿A holiday is any day when people lay aside their ordinary duties and cares. The word comes from Old English. At first, holidays honored some holy(ÉñµÄ) events or persons. People in Great Britain and other countries speak of holidays as Americans speak of vacations.
Every nation has its special holidays. China observes New Year¡¯s Day(January 1), May Day and National Day as legal(·¨¶¨µÄ) holidays, as it was on Oct. 1, 1949 that People¡¯s Republic of China was founded. The Chinese have long celebrated the Chinese lunar year. In the United States, congress£¨¹ú»á£© has declared several as legal days such as New Year's Day (January1), Martin Luther King, Jr.¡¯s Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day and so on. Some holidays celebrate special events in the development of a country, such as Greece¡¯s Independence Day, Italy¡¯s Liberation Day and India¡¯s Independence Day.
In the United States, banks and schools usually close on a legal holiday. When such a holiday falls on Sunday, the following Monday is often observed. Schools and organizations often observe days known as traditional holidays, although schools and businesses do not close then. Those holidays include Valentine's Day and Halloween.
¡¾1¡¿Which of the following holidays has nothing to do with a country¡¯s development?
A. China¡¯s National Day
B. America¡¯s Independence Day
C. Italy¡¯s Liberation Day
D. Valentine¡¯s Day

A. Chinese will no longer observe the Spring Festival
B. Chinese and Americans share at least one holiday
C. students don¡¯t have to go to school on any holiday
D. Americans can easily draw money from banks on legal days
¡¾3¡¿If a legal holiday falls on Sunday, people usually celebrate on_________.
A. Sunday B. the following Sunday
C. the following Monday D. the following Tuesday

In order to know a foreign language thoroughly, four things are necessary. Firstly, we must understand the language when we hear ¡¾1¡¿ spoken. Secondly, we must be able to speak it correctly with confidence and without hesitation. ¡¾2¡¿ ,we must be able to read the language , and fourthly, we must be able to write it. We must be able to make sentences that are grammatically correct.
There is no easy way to succeed ¡¾3¡¿ learning a language. ¡¾4¡¿ good memory is of great help, but it is not enough only ¡¾5¡¿ (memorize) rules from a grammar book. It is not much use learning by heart long list of ¡¾6¡¿ (word) and their meaning, studying the dictionary and so on. We must learn by using the language. If we are ¡¾7¡¿ (satisfy)with only a few rules we have memorized, we are not really learning the language. ¡°Learn through use¡± is a good piece of ¡¾8¡¿ (advise) for those ¡¾9¡¿ are studying a new language. Practice is important. We must practise speaking and ¡¾10¡¿ (write) the language whenever we can.
