    17．A principal in Manhattan informed parents that there would be no more homework for the public school's students．And then came the arguments---not from teachers，but from parents．Some said they would transfer their children to another school．Some said they were finding online sources of homework for their children．They were not convinced by the explanation from Principal Jane Hsu about the negative effects of homework on young children，including lack of time for other activities and family time，and loss of interest in learning．Hsu suggested children should spend their time on activities that had been found to be good for their academic，social and emotional development．
    As a supporter of Hsu's approach，I wonder how many of the parental arguments occur not because of what children will miss out on，but because parents themselves no longer feel confident about their ability to help their children develop without highly structured activities to guide them．
    I'm reminded of a meeting at the school my younger daughter was about to start when she was 6．The head of the school met with parents to say that she was also considering doing away with homework．One mom objected because homework was her"special time"each day with her child when they could sit down together to go through the work．The head of the school appeared surprised at this．She gently suggested that the mother should read to her child，or that they should cook dinner together．
    It's been sad to see that kids，between their structured soccer practices and their homework，have very little time to play．But it's even sadder to see the parental nervousness around what might happen to a third-grader who has more time to create，think，read，interact with others，or imagine．What might happen，I believe，must be more happiness，more energy and better physical fitness．

    3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file．

    Sometimes a 3D model can be sliced from within a 3D  modeling software  application．It is also possible that you are forced to use a certain slicing tool for a certain 3D printer，
    When the 3D model is sliced，you are ready to feed it to your 3D printer．This can be done via USB．SD or WiFi．It really depends on what brand and type 3D printer you have．
    When a file is uploaded in a 3D printer．the object is ready to be 3D printed layer by layer．I'he 3D printer reads every slice（2D image） and creates a three dimensional object．
    Before you pick up a 3D printer and experimenting in the 3D world，consider how big the objects you might want to create，If your goal is to print foot-long rulers，you'll fall short of that goal if the printer you choose can only handle objects smaller 6inches  in height and width．
    Another reality check is print speed．，You'll be able to knock out a days worth of chores（琐事）while the primer is running，with a typical 4-inch model requiring as many as 12 hours to print．As with ordinary printers，print speed also depends on how well it prints．

    We need to stop thinking that someone is worth admiring if they're really rich but stabbed（刺）everybody in the back along the way to get there．We need to throw the expression‘Nice Guys Finish Last'to the dustbin of history，by realizing that being a decent（正派的）person is not a sign of weakness but a positive and desirable trait（品质）．
    If you want to know what you're really worth，here's a tip：It doesn't have anything to do with your bank account．
    It's about how many times you've been there for your friends．It's how many times you've been kind to a stranger．It's every time you did something unselfish，or told your partners you loved them，or treated someone with respect no matter where they were in their own life．
    So the next time someone boasts about their wealth，remember that they can have all the money in the world，but they can never buy their way out of being a douchebag（人渣）．
