Eat your vegetables. Cut back on snacks. Our parents are always nagging (唠叨) us to eat properly. When we are constantly reminded to choose healthy foods, the fun is taken out of eating. Sometimes it even makes you do just the opposite: eat junk.
Now there’s a nag-free reminder to eat healthily: the Healing Foods Pyramid.
Created by nutrition experts at the University of Michigan in the United States, the pyramid is fun, easy way to learn how to eat and what to eat.
The pyramid has strips in colors going from the left to the right. There are also pictures of all sorts of foods. “Study it for a while and you’ll remember which foods are really needed in your diet. You’ll see that dairy foods are kind of in the middle, and understand that you should probably eat less of them,” said Monica Myklebust, a nutrition expert.
“And learn that meat and chocolate are closer to the top, so you should eat even less of these foods. At the very base of the pyramid is water. We know that our bodies are more than 50 percent water, so water is very important to our lives.”
Pretty easy, isn’t it?
The pyramid also tells people that they should eat whole foods: tomatoes rather than tomato juice, oranges rather than orange juice. Juice has a lot less pulp (果肉) than the whole fruit, which is a good source of fiber. Juice quickly loses its natural vitamin C.
It’s called the Healing Foods Pyramid to emphasize the healing properties (特性) of the food. For example, fresh garlic can help fight colds, sore throats and ear infections.
“Food is medicine,” said Myklebust. “Foods have healing properties and we’ve included these foods in our pyramid.”
There is even a little blank space at the very top for your favorite treat — chocolate chip cookies or strawberry ice cream, for example. Treats heal, too, simply by making you feel good, Myklebust said. But remember, just once a day. And one scoop, not two, please.

Jonny Jones was a nice and popular boy, who everyone loved. He was so much fun, so good and so kind to everyone that they treated him wonderfully. But as everything he needed was given to him without asking, Jonny became a weed. He was so spoiled by everyone that he couldn’t stand any hardship.
One day Johnny heard a mother saying to her son “Come on, my boy, get up and stop crying. You are behaving like Johnny Jones.” That made Johnny feel very ashamed. But he was sure that he would prefer to be known as a good boy rather than a fool. Worried, he spoke to his father about all this, though he was afraid that maybe he would be laughed at for having such worries. His father, far from laughing at Johnny, told him that a teacher had taught him a secret trick to turn him into the toughest boy off all. “Eat a candy less, study a minute more, and count to five before crying.” Johnny asked, “Just that? ” “Yes, just that,” said his father, “It’s very simple, but I warn you that it won’t be easy.”
Johnny was happy like a bird, ready to follow the advice. He went to see his mother, and she noticed how happy he was when she offered him candies. “One candy less”, thought Johnny, so he only took one. That afternoon he had another chance to put it into practice by studying one minute more. The result was that he missed the first minute of his favorite program! But having achieved this gave him a great feeling of satisfaction. The same happened when he ran up against the corner of the kitchen table. He only managed to count to four before crying, but that was left deeply in his mother’s memory.
Over the following days Johnny kept using the motto in his life as his father told him. And the more he put this into practice ,the easier it got. Before long he realized that he could also do things that would seem impossible before.

STRANGERS parties go wild these days. The main idea of them is to never let the people know who their matches are until the last minute. These are some popular practices that are storming the world’s youth on this V-day.
Speed dating
It’s exactly what the name implies. Complete with a timer, a whistle and 50 willing singles, speed dating is not the traditional dinner and a movie type of first date. Singles pay US $35 for three minutes with more than two dozen future dates. They ask questions and try to get to know each other. At the sound of a whistle, they do the same thing all over again―25 times in all.
Lock and key party
Women are given a lock and men are given a key, upon arriving at the party. Each key and lock has several matches. One can hunt for his/her later-to-be sweetheart in various groups, and try out the key or lock. Each time a lock and key match the pair are entered into a ballot (票数) for top prizes!
Dinner in the dark
Waiters wearing night vision glasses guide the guests through the pitch-black dining room. They are seated at the table and familiarized with the wine glass and plate. Food is handled with the fingers. People will not see the food they are eating or the guests at their table until the dessert course. At that moment, dining partners will appear.
Message party
Have A Cocktail, Leave A Message! When you arrive, you get a tag with a number and a pad of post-it notes. If you see someone you like, write a message on the message board. But wait… You’ve got a message… Go and collect it! You can make new friends and win lots of gifts. The more messages you leave on the bulletin board, the more chances you have of winning prizes.
