B

Five years ago, when I taught art at a school in Seattle, I used Tinkertoys as a test at the beginning of a term to find out something about my students. I put a small set of Tinkertoys in front of each student, and said:”Make something out of the Tinkertoys. You have 45 minutes today - and 45minutes each day for the rest of the week.”

A few students hesitated to start. They waited to see the rest of the class would do. Several others checked the instructions and made something according to one of the model plans provided. Another group built something out of their own imaginations.

Once I had a boy who worked experimentally with Tinkertoys in his free time. His constructions filled a shelf in the art classroom and a good part of his bedroom at home. I was delighted at the presence of such a student. Here was an exceptionally creative mind at work. His presence meant that I had an unexpected teaching assistant in class whose creativity would infect(感染) other students.

Encouraging this kind of thinking has a downside. I ran the risk of losing those students who had a different style of thinking. Without fail one would declare, ”But I’m just not creative.”

“Do you dream at night when you’re asleep?”

“Oh, sure.”

“So tell me one of your most interesting dreams.” The student would tell something wildly imaginative. Flying in the sky or in a time machine or growing three heads. “That’s pretty creative. Who does that for you?”

“Nobody. I do it.”

“Really-at night, when you’re asleep?”

“Sure.”

“Try doing it in the daytime, in class, okay?”

1.The teacher used Tinkertoys in class in order to ________?

A. know more about the students

B. make the lessons more exciting

C. raise the students’ interest in art

D. teach the students about toy design

2. What do we know about the boy mentioned in Paragraph 3?

A. He liked to help his teacher.

B. He preferred to study alone.

C. He was active in class.

D. He was imaginative.

3.What does the underlined word “downside” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?

A. Mistake. B. Drawback.

C. Difficulty. D. Burden.

4.Why did the teacher ask the students to talk about their dreams?

A. To help them to see their creativity.

B. To find out about their sleeping habits.

C. To help them to improve their memory.

D. To find out about their ways of thinking.

科目:高中英语 来源:2016届广东揭阳高三第二次高考模拟英语试卷(解析版) 题型:阅读理解

Whether or not to go to university will probably be the biggest educational decision you ever make. After battling with student finance, deciding whether or not to take a year out can be as terrifying as deciding where to move to for the three years.

Some students will have planned their year out for months, but, for others, slipped grades may force a gap year(间隔年), either to retake exams or to apply to different universities. Others might just need time to think. Thankfully, for U.K. students, taking a gap year remains a good option and it can be one of the most productive and fulfilling years of their life.

Whether you’ve planned and budgeted for a year abroad, or have made a last-minute decision to delay your first year, the options are endless. Traveling, volunteering and so on are all there for the talking. With so many things on offer, it’s important to remember that 12 months won’t be enough time to do all of them, so decide early and work towards making whatever you want to do a reality.

Researching a gap year is exciting, and often the place to start is at home. Family and friends can be a great source of inspiration. Your school or college might be fully equipped to advise you on what to do when further education is on hold. Don’t underestimate(低估)the power of the Internet, either. Typing a “gap year” into a search engine might seem too obvious, but planning to travel around the world for months on your own is not appropriate.

To stay at home or go abroad is likely to be the first question you consider, but in this era of budget flights, doing both is practicable. A European inter-rail ticket(火车票)can be as little as £ 159. For those loving traveling, they must be on the special watchfulness for tricks in the process. Agencies can organize your year abroad for you, and often, it is more effective to make the bookings through the agencies. But flights and other forms of transport within Asia and America are much cheaper when bought in the countries rather than bought in advance.

1.According to Paragraph 2, why do some students have to take a gap year?

A. Because they are faced with financial problems.

B. Because they dislike what they are learning .

C. Because they haven’t got satisfying grades.

D. Because they intend to hang out for a year.

2.The underline words “on hold” in Paragraph 4 mean “________”.

A. taken in B. put off

C. given up D. turned out

3.What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A. Few students can afford to go abroad.

B. Traveling around Europe costs nothing.

C. It’s better to go to Asia and south America.

D. Travellers should make sure they aren’t cheated.

4.The auther’s attitude towards a gap year may best described as__________

A. supportive B. negative

C. defensive D. sensitive

科目:高中英语 来源:2016届宁夏六盘山高级中学高三第四次模拟考试英语试卷(解析版) 题型:阅读理解

阅读下列短文,选出最佳选项。

There is a large percentage of Asian people in the US. They’re hard working, respectful but strange sometimes. If you don’t understand the culture, you will get some problems with them. Asian people are different from any other cultures if you think you know them, you might want to think again.

How are they different? When it comes to most Asian culture, respect is everything. You can do anything you want but don't disrespect an Asian man. You will get some real consequences afterward and especially if he is your boss. It’s something called face saving in the Asian culture. It’s ridiculous sometimes but it’s their culture. Sometimes their culture can come in between their relationship at work. Asian people might expect a lot of respect from their co-workers when their co-workers just see them as an equal.

Americans are very different from Asian people. If you’re Asian, you might want to understand the American culture and even adapt to their culture if you work with them. It will be easier for you since you’re in their countries. Imagine an American working in China, expecting Chinese co-workers to get along with him when he criticizes them straight out on every single matter in front of everyone. I think they will take him outside and take care of him. It just doesn’t work that way with Asian people.

If you’re an American boss giving your Asian employee a review, you will see that they will have a problem with your negative remarks. They will think that you don’t like them, disrespectful, and want to get rid of them; when in fact, you’re just doing your job. You just encourage them to do their work better. Of course, it’s not fair for you as an American boss but just expect that it can be something that is on your Asian employee’s mind.

1.The Americans can’t get along well with the Asians probably because______.

A. their cultures are different.

B. they don’t like each other.

C. both of them are too proud.

D. they have different political views.

2.The underlined phrase “face saving” in Paragraph 2 probably means_____.

A. saving some money for later use.

B. making faces to please your boss.

C. showing some respect to somebody.

D. helping somebody out of trouble.

3.From the third paragraph we can know that it is difficult_________.

A. for the Asians to accept the culture in America.

B. for the Americans to adapt to the culture in China.

C. for people to learn the culture in a foreign country.

D. for people to follow the culture in their own country.

4.The negative remarks an American boss gives on your work probably mean he/she _____

A. doesn’t like you any longer.

B. thinks you are not worth respecting.

C. doesn’t think you are suitable for the job.

D. wants you to improve your work.
