However

3. 考查介词。此处是固定短语a number of“大量”,故在number前加a

4. 考查动词语态。此处set in是不及物动词词组,没有被动语态,故删除to后的be

5. 考查动名词。此处与前面的meeting保持一致,作 after的宾语。也可理解为与started保持一致,用一般过去时。故将have改为having/had

【题目】 Since the time of Socrates, it has been widely said that art imitates life. In the case of literature, however, it would be more accurate to say that art reflects life. The writings of the Romantics were a natural result of life in 19th century America and American Romanticism was the first truly American literary movement, including a group of authors who wrote and published between 1820 and 1860.

The unique American history and landscape had a profound influence on the romanticists. Many were writing not long after the War of 1812. This was a time of growth and expansion and their idealism fueled high hopes for the infant nation. The country was moving westward into vast newly acquired territory. The frontier, both as a place and a concept, became an important representation of the American spirit.

While American Romanticism was a new attitude toward nature, it was also a new attitude toward people, promoting the solitary individual standing against society. Individualism is a typical American value and was central to their writings, which urged people to follow their inner knowing regardless of the pressure to conform.

Romantic writers rebelled against the idea that reason was the best tool for discovering truth. Instead, they deliberately explored feeling, imagination, fantasy, and belief. Their style took advantage of personal freedom in order to break through the wall separating the author and the reader, and gave the author the freedom to comment on the events in the story in novel ways.

Stylistically, the American romantics liked to experiment with form and the novel became an important vehicle for expression, unlike the European romantics who focused mainly on poetry. They also made clever use of symbols to refer to truths or knowledge that exist beyond rationality (合理性).

1What increased hopes for the newly born America?

A.The War of 1812.B.The belief of romanticists.

C.The western territory.D.The history of America.

2Which of the following is an ideal of American romantic writers?

A.Reason should be involved to find out truth.B.The author and the reader need to be separated.

C.Individuals should follow their heart.D.Nature is more important than humans.

3What literary form did American romantics mainly adopt to express their ideas?

A.Poetry.B.Use of symbols.C.Novels.D.Drama.

4What is the passage mainly about?

A.Advances in American history.B.The rebellion of Romantic writers.

C.A new attitude to people.D.Romanticism in American literature.

【题目】

This month Angelina Horsefield writes about an animal rescue (援救) society in Australia: WIRES

WIRES Wildlife Information and Rescue Service began in 1985 when someone found an injured bird in a park in Sydney, Australia. At the time, no one knew how to help this “native” animal. WIRES help animals like snakes, kangaroos and, of course, birds. However, they can only help Australian wildlife, so they can’t help other animals like cats or rabbits.

Like other animal rescue groups, WIRES need more people. I believe they are helping the local animals, but they can only continue if others join in. They hold excellent courses, where people can learn what to do when they find an injured animal. They also explain what happens to the animals in their care. Many of the people who help also lake care of the animals themselves in their own gardens or on their farms.

I spoke to 15-year-old Guy McKenzie, whose dad helps WIRES in his free time. Guy told me about the work they do. “Dad usually gets a phone call at home and drives immediately to where the animal is, to rescue it. He has special equipment and always wears gloves. The animals are wild, after all.”

Guy also talked about a woman who found a bat in her garden. She thought it might be dead but then she noticed that there was a baby bat too. Guy’s dad brought it back to the centre, where it grew into a healthy adult. Then, WIRES returned it to nature. Guy showed me a baby kangaroo that his dad was looking after and told me that one day he’ll be doing the same thing. Yes, he will, for sure.

1WIRES aim at helping ________.

A.pet animalsB.wildlife animals

C.small animalsD.farm animals

2Guy’s dad is an example to show ________.

A.who started WIRESB.how one helps WIRES

C.why people join WIRESD.how WIRES study animals

3What does Guy hope to do in the future?

A.Live in nature.B.Take care of his dad.

C.Study bats.D.Work for WIRES.

4The author writes the passage in order to ________.

A.describe a course on animalsB.introduce an animal scientist

C.call on people to join the rescue groupD.give advice on keeping pets

【题目】 Increased use of the Internet and mobile phones are undermining pupils’ capacity for independent study and promoting poor grammar, it was claimed.

Cranfield School of Management found almost six in 10 schoolchildren were copying information directly from websites for homework tasks without properly reading it.

More than a quarter thought it was an acceptable practice, even though they know it was considered plagiarism (剽窃). The study, based on a sample of around 260 pupils aged from 11 to 18 at a secondary school in the Midlands, raised fresh concerns that modern technology was having a destructive effect on young people. Andrew Kakabadse, professor of International Management Development at Cranfield, said, “Our research shows that technology obsession prevents spelling skills, encourages plagiarism, and disturbs classroom learning.

“Despite school policies restricting mobile phone usage, students use the phone frequently, with the majority making calls from the toilets. The mobile phone continues to be a main channel of social communication during the school day.”

The report revealed that so-called “text-speak’’ was increasingly finding it was into pupils’ school work. Three in 10 students admit to using text message shortcuts, such as “ruok” in essays and classroom tasks.

It followed a study earlier this year that found almost half of teachers failed to understand some pupils’ writing because it was so full of confusing language. Phrases such as “innit” and “Gr8” were regularly found in school work, it was claimed. The Cranfield study found that mobile use was so common that many pupils chose to ignore school rules on phones.

More than a third said they would use their mobile in class, while nearly three quarters said they would not even make an excuse to leave class to answer a phone call.

1The underlined word “undermining” in the first paragraph can best be replaced by “_________”.

A.keepingB.determining

C.weakeningD.increasing

2It can be inferred from what Kakabadse said that _________.

A.he believes schools are responsible for technology obsession

B.he is in favour of students’ mobile phone usage at school

C.the research finds a new way to improve school management

D.it is hard to limit students’ mobile phone usage at school

3The passage is mainly about _________.

A.technology’s positive influence on students’ achievement

B.the negative effect of technology on students’ study

C.the importance of online social communication

D.the rapidly growing role of communication technologies

4What’s the attitude of the author to the problem?

A.Approving.B.Optimistic.C.Anxious.D.Tolerant.
