M: Frank Whittle was a British Royal Air Force air officer who invented the jet engine. He was born in a humble house in Coventry, England, on June 1st, 1907. His father was a clever engineer who passed on his skills to his son. Whittle became adventurous, developing an early interest in planes. He joined the Air Force and was taught about aircraft engines, gaining experience in the engineering workshops. He was excellent in his studies and became a pilot. During study time, he had the ideas that led to the creation of the jet engine, and he was given the legal right of ownership of his design in 1930. His studies earned him a place on a further course at Cambridge University, where he graduated with a first class degree. His first engine was tested in 1937. Official interest grew but it was many years before it came into use. Whittle’s invention was of great importance. It increased the speed of planes dramatically and jet engines are now used by nearly every airline in the world. Whittle held many important jobs and became a hero in his country. He later married an American woman and moved to the United States, where he became a professor. He died at his home in Maryland on August 9th, 1996.

【题目】How to Overcome Procrastination (拖延症)
If you've ever put off an important task, you know it wouldn’t be fair to describe yourself as lazy. This is just procrastination.
“Procrastination” is derived from the Latin verb procrastinare — to put off until tomorrow. But it's more than just voluntarily delaying. 【1】. It means doing something against our better judgment.
We must realize that procrastination is about emotions, not productivity. 【2】. Nor are we able to overcome it only by learning ways of self-control. It has to do with managing our emotions in a new way.
【3】. This is what researchers found. Students who were able to forgive themselves for procrastinating when studying for a first exam ended up procrastinating less when studying for their next exam. They concluded that self-forgiveness might guarantee future success. It allows students to move pass their improper behavior and focus on the next exam without burden.
Another choice is to make your temptations (诱惑) less attractive. 【4】. We can put obstacles between ourselves and our temptations to create a sense of frustration or anxiety. If you keep checking your social media, say, your WeChat, delete those apps from your phone for a while.
Researchers also suggested that we make the things we want to do as easy as possible for ourselves. 【5】, sleep in your exercise clothes.
A.That may be easier said than done
B.One choice is to explore our curiosity
C.If you feel like running early in the morning
D.So we can’t just download a time management app
E.One option is to forgive yourself when you procrastinate
F.Procrastination also came from the ancient Greek word akrasia
G.It’s still easier to change our surroundings than changing ourselves

【题目】 I didn’t cry when I learned I was the parent of a mentally disabled child.
“Go ahead and cry,” the doctor advised kindly. But I couldn’t cry then nor during the months that followed.
We enrolled her in our neighborhood school’s kindergarten at age seven. I worried that she was the “different” child among twenty five-year-olds. However, positive things began to happen to Kristi in her school, and to her schoolmates, too. When boasting of their own accomplishments, Kristi’s classmates always took pains to praise her as well, “Kristi got all her spelling words right today.”
During Kristi’s second year in school, the big public event of the term was a competition based on a culmination of the year’s music and physical education activities.
On the day of the program, Kristi pretended to be sick, but my conscience got reluctant Kristi onto the school bus. Also, I forced myself to go to the program. Then I knew why Kristi had been worried. Her class was divided into relay teams. With her limp and slow, clumsy reactions, she would surely hold up her team.
But as Kristi’s turn to participate neared, change took place in her team. The tallest boy in the line stepped behind Kristi and placed his hands on her waist. Two other boys stood a little ahead of her. The moment the player in front of Kristi stepped from the sack, those two boys grabbed the sack and held it open while the tall boy lifted Kristi and dropped her neatly into it. A girl in front of Kristi took her hand and supported her briefly until Kristi gained her balance. Then off she hopped, smiling and proud.
Amid the cheers of teachers, schoolmates and parents, I thanked Heaven for the warm, understanding people in life who make it possible for my disabled daughter to be like her fellow human beings.
Then I finally cried.

【题目】 What makes Belgian (比利时的) chocolate so special? How has Belgian chocolate become so famous? What are the reasons why Belgian chocolate is so good? After reading the text, you will find the answers.
Congo (刚果) became their gateway to Africa’s cocoa plantations and resulted in Belgium bringing back cocoa beans to Europe from Africa around the 1880s. Therefore, Belgium could produce quality chocolate before anyone else in Europe and before most countries in the world. Even the Swiss, who are farmed for their chocolate, learnt much of what they know from the Belgians.
Belgians are naturally good at engineering---They developed processes; they created new methods. Firstly, Belgium was one of the first countries to come up with machines which could make the cocoa beans really thin so that the chocolate was extremely smooth.
Another example of this Belgian innovation was the process brought about by Jean Neuhaus in 1912. He developed a way to make a cold shell of chocolate for what he called “pralines (干果糖)”. These were different and for the first time the chocolate could be filled with a variety of flavored creams, such as coffee, fruit or even more chocolate. No one else at that time could make chocolate with such a complexity of flavor and this development changed the way people would eat chocolate forever.
Just as many Italian villages have a specialty olive oil supplier and many French villages have a local vineyard (酒庄), so is it true that every Belgian village has its own small chocolate shop. Recipes have been passed down through for families for generations. This culture extends to both the quality of ingredients used and the care that is taken when people make the chocolate. The most delicious Belgian chocolate is made not by large manufacturing companies, but in small family chocolate shops by hand and basic equipment.
【1】What makes Belgians produce quality chocolate first in Europe?
A.The perfect location.B.The improved process.
C.The advanced equipment.D.The earlier access to cocoa beans.
【2】What does the underlined word” innovation” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.devotion.B.creation.
C.strength.D.preference.
【3】What can we infer from the passage?
A.Chocolate has been the typical product of Belgium.
B.Belgian chocolate has been also famous in Italy and France.
C.It is hard to buy Belgian chocolate made by small family shops.
D.Recipes of Belgian chocolate were introduced from other countries.
【4】What is the structure of the passage?
