【题目】根据短文内容的理解, 选择正确答案。 If you have to attend a party or other social events where a lot of people will be present, do you feel confident that you will make a good impression on others? Or do you feel shy? In any case, you should increase your confidence at social events.
Whenever you are meeting new people at any social event, you should wear proper clothes. Before you attend the event, try to find out how other people will be dressing. If everyone else is wearing business clothes, you should, too. If the event is informal, you should wear informal clothes so that you fit in.
If you are going to meet people from a certain business or profession, try looking through a few professional magazines or checking on the Internet ahead of time to get some conversation ideas which are related to their fields of interest. This can prevent you getting tongue-tied at the event.
When you are at the event, don't worry about whether or not other people you are talking with like you. Instead, try your best to find reasons to like them.
When you are making conversation with people, be sure to keep good eye contact, and make your facial expression soft. Nod to show you're listening. Let your face and body relax so that you can make natural gestures.
After the event is over, take a bit of time to think of your social performance and the conversation you had with people. Tell yourself exactly what you did very well at the event. For example, perhaps you made a big effort to really listen to the people you were talking with, or you may have asked several people some good questions that really got them talking. 【题目】In the late 1950s, a Russian geneticist called Dmitry K. Belyaev attempted to create a tame (驯化的) fox population. Through the work of a breeding programme at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics at Novosibirsk, in Russia, he sought to find the evolutionary pathway of tame animals. His test subjects were silver-black foxes, a melanistic (带黑色的) version of the red fox that had been bred in farms for the color of their fur.

He selected the animals based on how they responded when their cage was opened. About 10% of the foxes displayed a weak “wild-response”, meaning they were docile around humans. Those that hid in the corner or made aggressive voices were left in the farm. Of those friendly foxes, 100 females and 30 males were chosen as the first generations of parents.

When the young foxes were born, the researchers hand-fed them. They also attempted to touch or pet the foxes when they were two to two-and-a-half months old, for strictly measured periods at a time. If the young foxes continued to show aggressive response, even after significant human contact, they were thrown away from the population—meaning they were made into fur coats. In each selection, less than 10% of tame individuals were used as parents of the next generation.

By the fourth generation, the scientists started to see dramatic changes. The young foxes were beginning to behave more like dogs. They wagged their tails and “eagerly” sought contact with humans. By 2005-2006, almost all the foxes were playful, friendly and behaving like domestic dogs. The foxes could “read” human hints and respond correctly to gestures or glances.

1What do we know about Belyaev’s breeding plan?

A. It explains how red foxes were bred.

B. It focuses on how tame animals evolved.

C. It explains why pet foxes became popular.

D. It concentrates on why tame animals disappeared.

2How did he choose his test foxes in the experiment?

A. By appearance.

B. By color.

C. By reaction.

D. By flexibility.

3What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?

A. Smart foxes were used for testing.

B. The purpose of selection was unclear.

C. Friendly foxes were kept on testing.

D. The selection was not exact and thorough.

4What is the distinguishing characteristic of the fourth generation foxes?

A. Behaving in a friendlier way.

B. Eating plants.

C. Having drooping ears.

D. Having shortened legs.

【题目】根据短文理解,选择正确答案。
How many times do you check your Moments or Facebook page in a day to see whether your latest post has got another “like” or “thumbs up”?
Although you might be embarrassed to admit how many times you do this, don't worry. Psychological findings have shown it's completely normal.
In fact, the pleasure we derive from (取自) getting a “like” is equal to that of eating chocolate or winning money, and we can't help wanting more.
According to the findings of the UCLA Brain Mapping Center, which observed 32 teens aged between 13 and 18, the feedback circuit (反馈电路) in the teens' brains are particularly sensitive, and the “social” and “visual” parts of their brains were activated when they received “likes” on a social network. The research also showed that though the thumbs up might come from complete strangers, the good they derive from it worked equally.
So does it mean we should try our best to win as many thumbs up as possible?
Not necessarily so if we know the reasons behind our desire for attention.
In “Why do people crave (渴望) attention” by M. Farouk Radwan, he explained several cases in which people naturally longed for attention. Radwan said people who were an only child, who were used to being the center of attention in their house, may try to reproduce these conditions. Feeling “overlooked and unappreciated” might also lead you to be eager for attention. Other times, the state of being jealous or wanting to cover your mistakes may also contribute to such longings.
In fact, too much desire for attention can create anxiety, and in turn ruin your happiness even when you get it. So what can we do about it? The answer is quite simple.
“If people could adopt goals not focused on their own self-esteem (自尊) but on something larger than their self, such as what they can create or contribute to others, they would be less sensitive to some of the negative effects of pursuing self-esteem,” wrote psychology professor Jennifer Crocker in the Journal of Social Issues.
(1)You may find this text in a magazine about ____.
A.technology
B.education
C.entertainment
D.social life
(2)Who will NOT naturally expect attention according to Radwan?
A.People who are living with their parents.
B.Those who lack social recognition.
C.People who are the focus of attention.
D.Those who want to blanket what they've done.
(3)We know from the last paragraph that ____.
A.checking your Moments or Facebook page is a waste of time
B.it is helpful to set goals concerning making contributions
C.focusing on one's self-esteem is quite natural
D.self-teem has a bad effect on one's goals
(4)What's the author's attitude towards people's addiction to “thumbs up”?
A.worried.
B.objective.
C.critical.
D.supportive.
