I was rescued by a man, my mother was so (frighten) that she decided never to let me get close to a swimming pool again., I thought quite differently. Instead of letting that horrible incident create more fear around water for me, I decided to become a good (swim). After I told my mother about that, she thought I was right and (agree). So I started to learn how to swim again. My mother became more careful and I was not in danger again. Later I became interested in swimming that I decided to compete in swimming events. After years of efforts, my dream came true. I was the first African American (win) an Olympic Gold Medal in swimming. I did so at both 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

⑺考查固定结构。so...that...固定句型“如此……以至于”。句意:后来我对游泳如此感兴趣以至于我决定参加游泳比赛。

⑻考查不定式。句意:我是第一位在游泳项目上赢得奥运金牌的美国黑人。此题考查the+序数词+n.+to do sth结构,故填to win。

⑼ 考点固定句型。句意:现在我花很多时间帮助孩子们学会怎样游泳。本题考查spend…(in)doing sth结构,故这里答案为helping。

It was 7:30 in the morning. As usual I was on the subway to school. It was so crowded with people that it felt like the air conditioner wasn't working. I was standing there looking around. Then, I saw an old lady get on the train with a 7-year-old child who seemed to be her grandson.
A warm-hearted gentleman generously offered his seat to the old lady. Instead of sitting down herself, however, the old lady called her grandson over and told him to sit.
Sooner or later, children mature and step into the complicated world. Love is necessary in the early development of children, yet, to the disappointment of many, too much love definitely prevents children from learning the rules of the real world. At times, our worries and anxieties can defeat us. Here is a brief list of techniques that you can use to help gain a better viewpoint on things during the anxious moments.
A person should take a deep breath and try to find something to do for a few minutes to get their mind off the problem. A person could get some fresh air, listen to some music, or do an activity that will give them a fresh perspective on things.
Remember that our fearful thoughts are made to seem worse and can make the problem worse. When unexpectedly having thoughts that make you fearful or anxious, challenge these thoughts by asking yourself positive questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense.
Be smart in how you deal with fears and anxieties. Do not try to deal with everything all at once. When facing a current or upcoming task that makes you anxious, break the task into small ones.
Remember that all the worrying in the world will not change anything. Most of what you worry about never comes true. Then you should leave everything else in the hands of God.
It is not easy to deal with all the fears and worries. When your fears and anxieties have the best of you, try to calm down and then get the facts of the situation. The key is to take it slow. All you can do is doing your best each day, hope for the best, and when something does happen, take it easy. Take it one step at a time and things will work out well at last.

【题目】Laptop computers are popular all over the world. People use them on trains and airplanes, in airports and hotels. These laptops connect people to their workplace. In the United States today, laptops also connect students to their classrooms.

Westlake College in Virginia will start a laptop computer program that allows students to do schoolwork anywhere they want. Within five years, each of the 1500 students at the college will receive a laptop. The laptops are part of a $ 10 million computer program at Westlake, a 110-year-old college. The students with laptops will also have access to the Internet. In addition, they will be able to use e-mail to “peak” with their teachers, their classmates, and their families. However, the most important part of the laptop program is that students will be able to use computers without going to computer labs. They can work with it at home, in a fast-food restaurant or under the trees—anywhere at all!

Because of the many changes in computer technology, laptop use in higher education, such as colleges and universities, is workable. As laptops become more powerful, they become more similar to desktop computers. In addition, the portable computers can connect students to not only the Internet, but also libraries and other resources. State higher-education officials are studying how laptops can help students. State officials are also testing laptop programs at other universities, too.

At Westlake College, more than 60 percent of the staff use computers. The laptops will allow all teachers to use computers in their lessons. As one Westlake teacher said, "Here we are in the middle of Virginia and we're giving students a window on the world. They can see everything and do everything.”
