Ten years ago, I used to be very fit. __小题1:__ I used to play tennis a lot and go for long walks. In those days, I didn’t earn very much. I had a job in an office. It wasn’t a very good job but I had a lot of time to do the things I enjoyed doing.
__小题2:__ The pay was better, but the hours were a lot longer. I bought a car and drove to work every day. I began to take people out to lunch. And I began to put on weight, too. I stopped playing tennis and going for long walks at weekends because I just didn’t have any time for things like that any more.
There’s a lot of stress (压力) in my job. Perhaps that’s why I started drinking more than I used to. For example, I used to have only half a glass of whisky when I got home, but then I started filling my glass to the top. Then I had another glass, and then another. 3:__ I never used to smoke at all.
Two months ago, I had a heart attack. At first I just couldn’t believe it. “I’m too young.” I said.  Luckily it wasn’t very serious. I was in hospital a few days and they did a lot of tests. __小题4:__ He also advised me to work less and get more exercise. But I just haven’t any time!
Sometimes I wonder if I should get another job. Perhaps I could do something like I used to do. But if I do that, I won’t earn as much. I have a family to support. I have to think of them, too. I just don’t know what I should do. What do you think?
A.Then, about eight years ago, I got a much better job.
B.My job takes everything out of me!
C.I rode a bike to work and I got a lot of exercise at weekends.
D.Drinking became part of my life.
E. I started smoking a lot, too.
F. Ten years later, I lost my first job.

I stopped playing tennis and going for long walks at weekends because I just didn’t have any time for things like that any more.
The pay was better, but the hours were a lot longer. I bought a car and drove to work every day. I began to take people out to lunch.
I never used to smoke at all.
He also advised me to work less and get more exercise. But I just haven’t any time!
But I just haven’t any time!

The sea has always interested man. From it he can get food, minerals, and treasure.   小题1:   But he could not go far beneath its surface.
小题2:   However, he is not a fish. He must breathe air, so he can’t stay under the water’s surface for any length of time. To explore deep water, man faces even more dangers and problems.
A diver who wants to stay under water for more than a few minutes must breathe air or a special mixture of gases.   小题3:   He can carry a tank of air on his back and breathe through a nose and a mouthpiece. Water weighs 800 times as much as air. Tons of water pushes against a diver deep in the sea.
When a diver is under great pressure, his blood takes in some of the gases he breathes. As he rises to surface, the water pressure becomes less. If the diver rises too quickly, the gases in his blood form bubbles(气泡). The diver is then suffering from the bends(潜水夫病). The bends can cause a diver to double up in pain.
A.His body is under great pressure.
B.Scientists are trying to find more about the sea.
C.For thousands of years, he could sail on it.
D.They can even kill him.

If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows this, and nobody would think of questioning the fact. ____小题1:____ When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by exercising it regularly, either consciously or unconsciously. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough opportunity to become strong. ____小题2:____ One of them exercises his arms and legs by playing tennis, while the other sits in a chair or a motor car all day.
If a friend complains that his arms are weak, we know that it is his own fault. ____小题3:____, many of us think that his parents are to blame, or that he is just unlucky, and few of us realize that it is just as much his own fault as if it was his arms or legs that were weak. Not all of us can become extremely strong or extremely clever; but all of us can, if we have ordinary bodies and brains, improve our strength and our memory by the same means––practice.
Have you ever noticed that people who cannot read or write usually have better memories than those who can? ____小题4:____ Of course, because those who cannot read or write have to remember things:they cannot write them down in a little notebook. They have to remember dates, time and prices, names, songs and stories; so their memory is the whole time being exercised.
____小题5:____, learn from the poor: practice remembering.
A.What do you think of it?
B.Yet many people do not seem to know that the memory works in the same way.
C.But if he tells us that he has a poor memory
D.So if you want a good memory
E. When someone else says that he is poor in the health
F. Why is this?
G. The position is exactly the same as that of two people.
