    6．Now that newsrooms are becoming less popular in the US，young people have begun to tell their own stories．
    GlobalGirl Media，a nonprofit organization that teaches teenage girls digital storytelling skills，was started by award-winning filmmakers Amie Williams and Meena Nanji in Los Angeles in 2010．
    "By giving girls a voice，you introduce a different story，and change the existing one，"said Danny Glover，a member of the GlobalGirl Media advisory board．
    "When the camera's in my hands，I feel like I can't lose，"Said Cheyenne Grisez，14．"It makes me happy and I feel like I can do anything．"
    On the final day of the summer academy in California，Williams worked with Grisez and Camila Prado，15，on a short film about Prado's fight against an eating disorder．In the film，Prado bravely interviewed her parents and sister about how she was able to beat her depression and eating disorder．This film and others the girls had made were shown to parents and friends on the last day of the academy，celebrating their hard work．
    "It's their story，and nobody knows how to tell it better than they do，"Williams said．
    "These girls are from really difficult backgrounds．They feel trapped sometimes．They feel alone．"Williams said．"The camera gives them a way to look at their world in a different way and get out of that feeling．''
    Girls in the program practice their skills and build confidence by going out in the community and interviewing people for the short films．Many of them had no experience，but found they had good storytelling skills．
    "I work with these girls．Every day I leave inspired and completely grateful，because I know that．due to the work we're doing with them，things will be better，"said GlobalGirl Media summer academy project director Heather Faison．

    The 33-year-old must win all three remaining matches to win the series that has a cash prize of $US 1million．
    AlphaGo's creators have described Go as the"Mt Everest"of AI，mentioning the complexity of the game，which requires a degree of creativity and intuition（直觉）to defeat an opponent（对手）•
    The most famous AI victory came in 1997，when the IBM-developed supercomputer Deep Blue beat Garry Kasparov，the then-world class chess champion，in its second attempt．

    3．Some US parents are sad that their high school children score badly in math，science and reading compared to kids in other countries．
    There has been an endless series of mostly fruitless education reforms to address this gap．Now comes an approach based on the insights （观念）of a group of US exchange students．They spent a year in some of the most successful high schools in the world-in Finland，Poland and South Korea．
    Author and journalist Amanda Ripley followed three exchange students for her new book．The Smartest Kids in the World-and How They Got That Way．She argues that to improve academics．US schools should de-emphasize sports．
    Instead，students should bring their passion and intensity （专注） to academics she concludes．
    "High school in Finland，Korea and Poland had a purpose，just like high school football practice in America，"she writes．"There was a big，important contest at the end，and the score counted．"
    Sports are a distraction，Ripley argues，and most countries require them to take place outside of school．
    Trading in US school sports culture would be a huge change for people in the US，who respect teamwork and sportsmanship as training for life．But playing down sports could pay off，as it has elsewhere，if we redirect money，focus and glory to learning．
    Ripley is critical of memorization in South Korean education，but she praises the system's high goals and the freedom its students have to fail and recover through hard work．
    Too often，we don't ask teachers to give our kids harder assignments and we're quick to complain about a failing grade．What's working elsewhere is to set ambitious goals for kids，and then allow them to discover that they have it within themselves to reclaim （重获）success from failure．
    Each of the countries in Smartest Kids came to education reform after an economic crisis．Finland was losing jobs after graduating just 10percent of its teens from high school in the 1950s．Today，the graduation rate is 95percent．Poland's wakeup came in 1999，as students consistently tested below average in reading．
