【题目】 The driver, Zhang Sai, hovered outside an apartment building in Wuhan, the central Chinese city at the heart of the coronavirus outbreak. He had been ordered not to take food to customers’ doors in order to minimize the risk of infection. But the woman on the phone was pleading, he recalled. The food was for her mother, who couldn’t go down to meet him. Mr. Zhang relented. He would drop off the order and sprint away. As he placed the bag on the floor, Mr. Zhang said, the door opened. Startled, he rushed away. Without thinking, he jabbed the elevator button with his finger, touching a surface that could transmit the virus. That was how Mr. Zhang, 32, found himself speeding back to his delivery station with one finger held aloft, careful not to touch the rest of his hand.

For many in China, delivery drivers like Mr. Zhang are the only connection to the outside world. Once a common but invisible presence on the streets of nearly every Chinese city, the drivers are now being honored as heroes. What exhausting and dangerous work! Mr. Zhang, who works for Hema, a supermarket chain owned by the tech giant Alibaba, crisscrosses (穿梭) the city armed only with the face masks and hand sanitizer that his company supplies each morning.

The epidemic has brought some unexpected bright spots. Before, Mr. Zhang said, he sometimes ran red lights during rush hour in order to meet his delivery goals for the day. Now, the streets are empty. He has no problem getting around. People are nicer, too. Some customers barely opened the door or avoided eye contact. After the outbreak erupted, everyone said thank you.

1Why Zhang Sai couldn’t send food to customers’ doors?

A.To keep away from the deadly disease.

B.To reduce the chance of being transmitted.

C.To avoid communicating with others.

D.To give himself a day off.

2What does the underlined word “relented” in paragraph 1 refer to?

A.promisedB.denied

C.admittedD.refused

3What advantages did the epidemic bring accidently?

A.Economic prosperity and long culture.

B.Busy business and peaceful people.

C.Splendid surroundings and energetic persons.

D.Empty streets and friendly people.

4What can be the best title for the text?

【解析】

本文是记叙文。快递小哥张赛讲述了他在疫情期间给人们送快递的一些经历。

1

推理判断题。根据第一段中“He had been ordered not to take food to customers’ doors in order to minimize the risk of infection.(他被要求不得将食物送到顾客家门口,以将感染风险降到最低。)”可以推断,张赛不能把食物送到顾客家门口是为了远离病毒,减少传染上病毒的机会。故选B项。

2

词义猜测题。 划线词前的句子提到“The food was for her mother, who couldn’t go down to meet him.”,那位女士说妈妈不能下楼拿食物,应该是要求张赛将食物送上楼;再根据划线词后的句子“As he placed the bag on the floor,”可知,张赛还是不顾命令,上楼将食物送到顾客的门口。由此可知,张赛是答应了那位女士的要求。可以推测relent意思为“许诺,承诺”。故选A项。

3

细节理解题。根据第三段中“The epidemic has brought some unexpected bright spots. ”以及“the streets are empty. …People are nicer, too. ”疫情带来了一些意想不到的亮点。在疫情期间,街上空无一人,作为快递司机的张赛可以担心闯红灯;像张赛这样的快递司机是人们与外部世界的唯一联系,人们也因此变得更加友好。故选D项。

4

主旨大意题。文章是关于快递司机张赛在疫情期间给人们送快递的一些经历和体会。因此文章标题应为“疫情期间的快递小哥张赛”。故选C项。

Little snow had fallen this winter. For Reuven the frier(皮衣制作工) it was a bad year, and after long hesitation he decided to sell Zlateh the old goat. The town butcher had offered eight silver coins for the goat. Reuven told his oldest boy, Aaron, to take the goat to town. Aaron understood what it meant, but he had to obey his father. His sisters cried loudly.

Aaron took along two slices of bread to eat on the road. He needed to deliver the goat by evening and return the next day with the money. While the family said goodbye, Zlatch stood as patiently as ever. Zlateh trusted human beings.

The sun was shining when Aaron left. Suddenly the weather changed, and after a while it began to snow. Soon their path was completely covered and Aaron got lost. Beneath the snow Aaron’s boots touched the softness of a plowed field. He realized that he was no longer on the road. Zlateh bleated (哀鸣) as if asking to be taken home. Aaron looked around hoping to find a farmer driving a sleigh(雪橇) along the way. But he could see nothing.

Aaron knew that if they did not find shelter, they would freeze to death. Suddenly he made out the shape of a hill. When he came near it, he realized that it was a large haystack (大干草堆) covered by snow. Aaron knew that they were saved. When he reached the hay, he dug a nest for himself and the goat. It was always warm in the hay. And hay was food for Zlateh.

Zlateh, sat down and seemed to have regained her confidence in man. Aaron ate his bread, but after the difficult journey he was still hungry. He looked at Zlateh and realized that he would not be starved to death. Goat’s milk was sweet. Zlateh ate frequently and her body gave forth an animal warmth, and Aaron hugged her tightly. 【题目】 Whoever wrote the song 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year' must have never experienced the holiday blues. Fortunately, psychological research suggests some effective ways you can use to beat the holiday blues. The key point is that sadness and other tough emotions are not what we should try to avoid. 1. Here are four strategies to help you make your own happiness recipe this holiday season.

Don't force cheer

At family gatherings with cousins you secretly can’t stand, you tend to put on a happy face. Indeed, that might even seem like the most mature response—no drama, no conflict. But a 2011 study followed dozens of bus drivers, looking to see when they gave forced or honest smiles at their passengers. The results showed when the drivers pretended to have a good mood, their actual moods got worse. 2.

Let out sadness

The results of the busdriver study can be explained by researchers, who find that negative feelings like sadness or anger only increase when we try to control them. 3. We don't like contradictory behavior.

Respond cautiously

Recently, scientists have been paying special attention to the benefits of caution. When you respond cautiously to an emotional trigger, you pause rather than react at once. 4. Besides, it is associated with less anxiety, and may even carry physiological benefits.

5

Of course, the holidays will bring a mix of highs and lows, but the most important lesson to keep in mind is that this variety of emotions might be the best thing possible for your overall wellbeing. In other words, sadness, anger, and other difficult emotions are nothing to fear. Just make sure you're balancing them with lighter experiences. And don’t forget to give yourself a break.

A.Relax your mind

B.Enjoy a mix of emotions

C.We tend to deny the important function emotions serve

D.Instead, they can help contribute to a healthy and happy life

E.So trying to force happiness seems to have the opposite effects

F.A cautious response to a negative event reduces sadness we experience

G.We feel bad when our appearance contradicts how we truly feel inside

【题目】阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。续写词数为150字左右。

The spot of red was what first caught Randy Heiss’s attention on December 16, 2018. He was hiking the remote land behind his farm in a small town near the U.S.-Mexico border, and there lying on the grass was a balloon. He walked toward it with his dog, thinking he should pick it up and throw it away.

That’s when he noticed the balloon’s string was attached to a piece of paper. “Dayami,” it read on one side, in a child’s writing. Heiss flipped the paper over. On the back he saw a numbered list, all in Spanish. His Spanish wasn’t very good, but he could see it was a Christmas list!

Heiss was charmed. He suspected that a child had tried to send Santa Claus a Christmas wish list by balloon, something he used to do himself when he was a kid. Nobody had ever returned the letters Heiss had sent, but he wondered whether he could find the girl who had sent this one.

It would be difficult, but Heiss had a few clues. About 20 miles to the southwest, just across the border, was the city of Nogales, Mexico, with a population of about a quarter million. Based on the wind direction, he was almost sure that was where it came from. Heiss brought the note home to his wife, who is fluent in Spanish and helped him translate the list. They determined that Dayami, probably a girl, had asked for a doll, a dollhouse, doll clothes and art supplies.

Heiss then posted his search about finding Dayami on Facebook, attaching photos, hoping some of his friends in Nogales might know the girl’s family. A few days passed with no results; Heiss worried that time was running out before Christmas. On December 19, 2018, he decided to send a private Facebook message to Radio Xeny, an AM radio station based in Nogales. To his surprise, someone from the station called him back right away and promised him to post his search on the station’s Facebook page immediately.

Paragraph 1:

The next morning, Heiss awoke to a message from Radio Xeny.

【题目】 Have you ever frequently put off things you should do for various reasons? If so, it is procrastination (拖延). Procrastinators often put off doing things and leave them to the very last moment. 1Lazy people simply don’t do anything and are just fine with it. Procrastinators, on the other hand, have the desire to do something but can’t force themselves to start.

You might think procrastination is a bit annoying but fairly harmless. However, long term procrastination has bad effects on your health. Not having seen the doctor when your illness was easier to treat may shorten your life. Just thinking about what you haven’t done may cause discomfort. 2

Don’t place too much pressure on yourself. “This project has to impress everyone; I really can’t blow this opportunity,” 3 Overcome this mental block by simply allowing yourself to be imperfect with the next small task. You can always improve your work later.

4 Concentrating on the size and difficulty of a task will overcome you and promote procrastination. Any work can be broken into smaller steps. The trick is - with each step along the way to focus on the next achievable tasks. Make sure you can easily imagine the outcome of your small task. Don’t write a book; write a page.

Focus on starting, rather than finishing. For someone who’s having a hard time starting a task, imagining a hard-to-grasp future can be depressing. The solution in this case, then, is to focus on starting. 5 We all know that if we start, we’ll eventually finish the task.

A.Break a long project down into short tasks.

B.So procrastination is about managing the time.

C.So we should apply ourselves to overcoming it.

D.However, procrastination is different from laziness.

E.Focus on the negative effects of the procrastination.

F.Bring your focus from the future to what can be done right now.

G.Placing such high hopes on a project only adds anxiety and fear of failure.
