¡¾´ð°¸¡¿Recently, there has been a heated discussion online about a female driver in Chengdu, who was violently beaten because of her rude driving. In my opinion, both beating others and impolite driving are quite bad behaviors.

China is a civilized country with a long history. Our ancestors attached great importance to ¡°Li¡±¡ªcivilized behavior. Every Chinese should obey discipline and behave well.

As middle school students, we should be strict with ourselves. Firstly, we ought to respect the old and take care of children. Besides, we should behave ourselves, such as dining in good manners, waiting in line on many occasions and so on. Last but not least, we must obey school and society discipline, not cheating in exams.

As far as I am concerned, only when we all behave well, can our society be harmonious.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Once upon a time, there was a man from the State of Chu who loved his sword very much. One day, he was sitting in a boat preparing ¡¾1¡¿(cross) a river, when he accidentally ¡¾2¡¿(drop) his sword into the water. The people on board reminded him that he should go into the water to find his beloved sword back. The man felt ¡¾3¡¿(anxiety), too. ¡¾4¡¿, he turned a deaf ear to that. And instead, he ¡¾5¡¿(immediate) took out a knife and made a notch(¿ÌºÛ) on the side of the boat ¡¾6¡¿ his dear sword fell. The people wondered why he did so. He said proudly the notch could help get his sword back. Shortly after the ¡¾7¡¿(arrive) at the shore, he entered the water just beneath the notch he made. After rather a long time, he returned empty-handed. Without doubt, he was laughed at in public and his story became ¡¾8¡¿ well-known joke in China.

Today the idiom ¡¾9¡¿(relate) to the story is used to describe a person who stick ¡¾10¡¿ strict rules without considering a changing environment.

Easter Island's large and mysterious stone statues£¨µñÏñ£© have made it world famous. These statues, whose likenesses look like humans with huge stone cylinders(Öù×´Îï) balancing on their heads like hats, have tourists coming from all over the world. The tourists come to see these works of ancient art carved by the early inhabitants of the island. They come to see the mystery that has puzzled historians for decades.
Easter Island is located in a remote part of the South Pacific Ocean about 2,300 miles west of Chile. Easter Island covers just 45 square miles and its Polynesian name is Rapa Nui.
On Easter Sunday 1722, a Dutch explorer named Jacob Roggeveen was the first European to see Easter Island. The early Polynesians carved the statues within the holes of the volcano using only stone tools. Then they moved these huge statues to various destinations throughout the island. These 600 statues range in height from 10 to 40 feet. Some of them weigh as much as 50 tons. How could the early Polynesians lift hundreds of heavy statues out of the volcano? How did they move them across the island to their various locations? All of these questions, as well as many others, remain unanswered.
The early islanders probably worshiped(³ç°Ý) these eyeless giants until sometime around 1670. In 1680, a war broke out between two groups of islanders. The victors of the war and ancestors of the present inhabitants, broke down many of the statues. In most cases, they broke the necks of the statues.
Now 15 of the statues on Easter Island have been repaired to their original positions on their stone platforms. Even today, using modern tools and machinery, putting up such large statues and balancing cylinders on top of their heads presents a challenging task.

Some people would have you believe that being fat is the worst thing you can be. They think that if a person is fat they have no life, no love, no reason to want to look good in their clothes. The sad thing is that many people who are fat do feel the same loathing toward themselves and others who are overweight or obese.
I know what I'm talking about because I have been there. I have been that fat girl who wore big T-shirts to cover my ¡°sins¡±. Forget style. Forget fashion sense. I absolutely had none. I didn't even bother getting haircuts for years, just wore my hair long and straight, pulled back in a ponytail, I have to wonder if the reason the fashion industry has ignored plus sized women and children for so long is because plus sized people, feeling they couldn't possibly look great, didn't bother shopping for new clothes, and therefore no profit was to be found by producing those sizes.
For me, the change that improved my outer look actually started with my outlook on life. I started by being grateful for all I do have, like great health, a stable family, a steady income, freedom, a decent home, the ability to see the trees turn orange in the fall, to hear my grandson humming in the back seat, to remember the great times I've had in my life.
I started to focus on all the positive aspects of the life I already had. I actually started to feel the beauty of the Universe all around me and to realize that I am part of that perfection. The self loathing stopped. I noticed all the people in my life who loved me in spite of my size. I got off the pity pot and smiled at myself. I acknowledged my shame and embarrassment and moved through that too.
£¨1£©We can learn from the first paragraph that ________.
A.a fat person is easy be taken away by others' viewpoint
B.fat people always have a low opinion of themselves
C.fat people usually envy others who are slim
D.fat people usually have pity on each other
£¨2£©According to the author, the fashion industry ________.
A.makes a lot of money by making clothes for fat people
B.does not bother to make clothes for fat people
C.targets on fat people mainly for the purpose of making profit
D.looking down upon fat people too
£¨3£©What does the author think is the most important to lead a happy life?
A.One's view on life.
B.The support and care from others.
C.Neglecting others' views.
D.Focusing on one's inner beauty.
£¨4£©The author is probably ________.
A.an expert at weight loss
B.a girl who is troubled by her weight
C.an old woman who is much careful with her appearance
D.an old lady who is happy with almost everything

A rising population is one of the main reasons that there is global warming. Between 1650 and 1850 the population increased by 0.75 billion people going from 0.25 billion to one billion. From 1930 to the end of the century the population rose from two billion to over six billion. In just a third of the time the population rose by more than five times what it did before. It is expected that this trend in the changing population will continue and could even heighten. The growing population requires increasing amounts of energy. These energy demands and other supplies require production, which almost always involves the emission of greenhouse gases. The more the population increases the more greenhouse gases that are produced and the greater the increase in temperature.
The burning of fossil fuels is one of the best-known causes for global warming. The major reason for fossil fuels contributing so much to global warming is the release of carbon that occurs during the burning of fossil fuels. When people burn fossil fuels, they release large amounts of carbon by way of the release of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide in the air then leads to global warming.
Another source of carbon dioxide comes from deforestation. In forests there is a large amount of carbon that is stored in the trees and other plants. This carbon is out of the atmosphere because the trees consume the carbon from carbon dioxide. When people cut down trees, they are frequently burned. This burning releases the carbon dioxide into the atmosphere that was stored in organic matter. Even when new trees are planted, it can take up to one hundred years to make up for the carbon that was released. It is commonly thought that because trees absorb more carbon dioxide, the atmosphere experiences positive effects.
Sophie Armstrong, the writer of Earth Care put it, ¡°There's no doubt that the earth is becoming warmer because of human activity rather than a random but natural phenomenon.
