【答案】Nowadays, many parents think it’s convenient to take their children to school and pick them up after school by private cars.Unfortunately, they are usually caught up with rush hours, which makes them stuck in traffic congestion, causing serious traffic jams and accidents around the school gate.

There are some reasons behind this phenomenon.First of all, parents are concerned about their children’s safety. They think it is not safe for children to walk or ride to school on their own, especially during rush hours. In addition, some parents are worried that their children may go to an Internet bar or be bullied on their way home after school.

Faced with this problem,I suggest that on one hand, parents teach their children to be independent and responsible for themselves. It is not wise to do everything for children. On the other, government should take effective measures to solve traffic jams around school gate, such as widening roads or building overpass or underpass. What’s more,it’s every citizen’s responsibility to help make a safer society.

【题目】For some people, music is no fun at all. About 4% of the population is what scientists call “amusic”. People who are amusic are born without the ability to enjoy musical notes. Amusic people often cannot tell the differences between two songs.

As a result, songs sound like noise to an amusic. Many amuics compare the sound of music to pieces of metal hitting each other. Life can be hard for amusics. In fact, most people cannot understand what it feel like being amusic. Just going to a restaurant or a shopping center can be uncomfortable or even painful. That is why many amusics have to stay away from places where there is music. However, this can result in social loneliness. “I used to hate parties,” says Margaret, a seventy-year-old woman who only recently discovered that she was amusic. By studying people like Margaret, scientists are finally learning how to identify(辨别) this unusual condition.

Scientists say that the brains of amusics are different for those of people who can enjoy music. The difference is complex(复杂的), and it is not connected with poor hearing. Amusics can understand other non-musical sounds well. They also have no problems understanding common speech. Scientists compare amusics to people who just can’t see certain colors.

Many amusics are happy when their condition is finally diagnosed(诊断). For years, Margaret felt embarrassed about her music problem. Now she knows that she is not alone. That makes it easier for her to explain. “When people invite me to a concert, I just say ”No, thanks. I’m amusic.’” says Margret. “ I just wish I had learned to say that when I was seventeen and not seventy.”

1Amusics are the people who _________.

A. like music B. are born unable to enjoy music

C. don’t like music D. have poor listening

2Life is hard for amusics mainly because _________.

A. music seems noise for them.

B. amusics hate parties, restaurants or shopping center.

3In the last paragraph, Margaret expressed her wish that ________.

A. her problem with music had been diagnosed earlier

B. she were seventeen years old rather than seventy

C. her problem could be easily explained

D. she were able to meet other amusics

4What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Some people’s inability to enjoy music.

B. Musical ability.

C. Amusics’ strange behaviors.

D. Identification and treatment of amusic.

【题目】阅读理解。

When times get tough, we all look for ways to cut back. When we’re hungry, we eat at home instead of going out. We take buses instead of taxis. And we wear our old designer jeans just a few months longer. With college expenses at all-time highs, high school students are eager to do anything to cut the cost of a university education.

One cost-cutting proposal is to allow college students to get a bachelor’s degree in three years instead of four. Educational institutions have been actively exploring ways to make the learning process more efficient. But there’s a question: Would the quality of undergraduate(本科生)education suffer? Few US universities have formally approved a “three-year degree” model.

I doubt that mainstream North American colleges will carry out a three-year curriculum(课程) any time soon. For one thing, most universities already allow highly qualified students to graduate early by testing out of certain classes and obtaining a number of college credits(学分). In addition, at famous universities, the committee who determine which courses are required and which courses are electives are unlikely to suddenly “throw out” one quarter of the required credits. Professors will resist “diluting(稀释)” the quality of the education they offer.

In my opinion, a quality four-year education is always superior to a quality three-year education. A college education requires sufficient time for a student to become skilled in their major and do coursework in fields outside their major. It is not a good idea to water down education, any more than it’s not a good idea to water down medicine. If we want to help students find their way through university, we should help them understand early on what knowledge and skills they need to have upon graduation. We should allow students to test out of as many courses as possible. We should give them a chance to earn money as interns(实习生)in meaningful part-time jobs that relate to their university studies, such as the five-year co-op program at Northeastern University.
