Mainstream education in the Philippines has been around for more than a hundred years. The idea of sending your child to a 1         (convention) school has been so deeply fixed in our mind that schools are normally considered students' second homes,while teachers take 2        as parents inside the classroom.

By the time children start to walk and talk,parents start to look for the school of good reputation that will raise them best,and one they can afford at that.

But a new movement led 3        the Homeschooling Association of the Philippine Islands (HAPD is changing the landscape of education by advocating homeschooling in the Philippines. Established in 2009,HAPI is an4       ( organize) composed of homeschooling families,as well as various accredited schools who offer home school programs.

Its chairman Edric Mendoza 5       (clarify) ,"Home school is different from home study." Home study is schooling supervised by a teacher or a tutor who drops by a student's house.

"Home school,on the other hand,is a form of education 6        the parent is the teacher and the child is the student," Mendoza says to distinguish the 7        forms.

HAPI believes parents have the option and capacity to educate their children 8         (they) .

Mendoza adds, "The challenge for all of us is that the school system has been there for a while,so we think by default that it is not our job to do it for our kids. So you know 9       ,we need to dispel the idea,that we need a school to do the 10         (teach) for you."

Organizing Activities & What to Eat for Kids' Party Kids' parties can be more fun than adult parties―you don't have to be so serious and you can let your inner child out with them. Plus,by the end of the day when all the kids' energy has come to an end,and they fall asleep,you're right there,laying next to them,taking a little nap yourself!

* Plan some games.

These are the building blocks of a good child's party,so start thinking up craft projects,look into renting an entertainer,or make use of the facilities at an outside place. Look into your phone book or search on Webs for party rentals or places near you. 1

* Make party favors (小礼品) interactive.

Instead of giving them a bag of small toys that will get played with for three minutes and then shoved in a drawer,have them make the party favors themselves!2       Taking part itself is kind of fun.

* Plan the party food.

When it comes to parties,one thing is timeless―cake. Will you bake one or buy one? Or two? Cupcakes are easy and super trendy as well. 3       Make the food theme oriented,too!

* Plan the party drinks.

Soda pop,lemonade,and juice are all pretty standard. And if you'll be outside a lot,a cooler filled with bottles of water or cans of soda will surely be appreciated,especially if it's hot outside. 4       If it's autumn or winter,have the kids play outside and come in for cider (苹果酒) to warm them up.

* Plan the goodbye.

5          You can be reached when they're running late,early,or sending someone else to pick up their child. Establish protection for the safety of every child.

   A. For younger kids,have a loose schedule to keep things running.

   B. For all invited kids,have their favorite games and make them enjoy themselves.

   C. No matter how you get it done,you have to spend some time making plans and doing shopping.

   D. Give the other parents your cell phone number.

   E. Whatever you choose,either get the order in advance or go grocery shopping for the ingredients ahead of time.

   F. And,of course,milk goes great with cake.

   G. The kids will feel more involved and think they are a part of the party.

二、短文填词

Two of the hardest things to accomplish in this world are to acquire wealth by honest effort and,having gained it,to learn how to use it 1       (proper) . Recently I walked into the locker room of a rather wellknown golf club 2        finishing a round. It was in the late afternoon and

most of the members had left for their homes. But still a halfdozen or so men past middle age 3       (seat) at tables talking aimlessly and drinking more than was good for them. These same men can 4       (find) there day after day and,strangely enough,each one of these men had been a man of affairs and wealth,5       ( success) in business and was respected in the community. If material prosperity were the chief requisite (必需品) for happiness,then each one should have been happy. Yet,it seemed to me,something very important 6       (miss) ,else there would not have been the constant effort to escape the realities of life through Scotch and soda. They knew,each one of them,that their productivity had ceased. When a fruit tree ceases to bear its fruit,it is dying. And it is even so 7      a man.

What is the answer to a long and happy existence in this world of ours? I think I found it long ago in a passage from the book,Genesis,8       caught my eyes while I was thumbing through my Bible.The words were few,but they became indelibly impressed 9        my mind: "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat thy bread."

To me,that has been a challenge from my earliest recollections. In fact,the battle of life,of existence,is a challenge to everyone. The immortal words of St. Paul,too,have been and10       will be a great inspiration to me. At the end of the road I want to be able to feel that I have fought a good fight,I have finished the course,I have kept the faith.

My father was a selftaught mandolin (曼陀林) player. He was one of the best string instrument players in our town. He could not read music,but if he heard a tune a few times,he could play it. 1       They would play at local dances and on a few occasions would play for the local radio station. He often told us how he had earned a position in a band that featured Patsy Cline as their lead singer. He told the family that after he was hired he never went back. Dad was a very religious man. There was a lot of drinking and cursing the day of his audition. 2       Dad would take out his mandolin and play for the family,occasionally. We three children would often sing along. Today I had an ordinary but meaningful birthday. In the beginning of the day,my parents had intended to give me anything as my birthday present. Great to my amazement,they presented a watch to me. I knew they want me to value time and possess a meaningful life. At the noon,I had a great lunch with some good friends of me in a restaurant. Later on,I enjoyed several things. They treated me to a comic movie,giving me a great deal of pleasures. Soon after the film,I made my best wish,blew out the candles,and cut the cake happily with my classmates.

When it comes to celebrate birthdays,gifts are not the most important things. What matters a lot to me is the beloved people spend this day together.

Between the preparation and the work,the apprenticeship (学徒期) and the actual dealing with a task or an art,there comes,in the experience of many young men,a period of uncertainty and wandering which is often misunderstood and counted as time wasted. 1       It is natural for courageous youth to know what is in life,what it means,and what it holds for its children. Behind every real worker in the world is a real man,and a man has a right to know the conditions under which he must live,and the choices of knowledge,power,and activity which are offered him. 2       It is the experience of traveling from knowledge to knowledge and from occupation to occupation.

The forces which go to the making of a powerful man can rarely be adjusted and blended without some disturbance of relations and conditions. This disturbance is sometimes injurious,because it affects the moral foundations upon which character rests. 3       The birth of the imagination and of the passions,the perception of the richness of life,and the consciousness of the possession of the power to master and use that wealth,create a critical moment in the history of youth. 4       Agitation and ferment of soul are inevitable in that wonderful moment. There are times when agitation is as normal as selfcontrol at less critical times. 5       And that in its ferment and uncertainty youth is often guided to and finally prepared for its task.

   A. It is considered richer in possibilities of all kinds than that comes at any later period.

   B. However,the wasted time will never be found back.

   C. In the education of many men and women,therefore,there comes the year of wandering.

   D. The year of wandering is not a manifestation of aimlessness,but of aspiration.

   E. And the significance of the experience in its relation to development ought to be sympathetically studied.

   F. That is why agitation and ferment of soul are ignored and even criticized.

   G. But in fact,this is a period rich in full and free development.

Nowadays nearly every child is burdening with heavy schoolbags as well as huge mental pressure. When he is young,he expected to be able to go to a key elementary school,and later a key high school. And then he is expected to be admitted to enter a key university. Under such distressful and difficulties,how can he seek for dynamic and active selfdevelopment?

Reducing children's heavy burden require efforts from schools,society,as well as parents. Education where breaks the natural rules of children's development about body and mind is bound to fail. In short,parents as well as teachers should become actively supporters of allround character education and work close with each other in guiding students towards a balanced development.
