So, you just finished what you thought was a great project at work, and now your boss is listing all the things you need to improve upon. 【1】_____. After all, positive criticism(批评)is a key part of any job. Through this article, learn how to accept criticism and do your jobs well.

1. Accept that you are not perfect.

If you begin each task thinking that nothing will go wrong, you're fooling yourself.2______. The important thing is to learn from them.

2.3______.

After you've finished, and before you submit it to your boss, be sure you've gone over everything carefully. This can help you to avoid silly mistakes and ensure that your boss won't have to bother you about minor problems.

3. Listen carefully.

4______. Take notes and remind yourself how to fix the problem. This step is the most difficult, as it can mean that one must put one's pride away and admit one's responsibility in one's work-related errors.

4. Agree with part of the criticism.

When faced with criticism, most people focus on the part of the negative feedback that may not be true and ignore the rest. This doesn't solve any problems, and you don't learn anything. When you agree with one part of the criticism, you become open to learning.5______. Even agreeing with one small aspect of the criticism will create an atmosphere of teamwork. The focus then can become how you'll work together to solve a problem, which will lessen your feeling of being attacked.

A. Don’t take it seriously.

B. Don’t get discouraged.

C. You will make mistakes.

D. Double check your work.

E. You don't have to agree with everything.

F. In fact you need time and courage to process the information.

G. Never ignore critical comments, or you will repeat the same mistakes.

Save Your Time, Money and Stress with Savvy Rental Car Strategies

Renting a car can be expensive, confusing, and stressful but it doesn’t have to be. Here are several helpful strategies to save money, time, and stress on your next (and every) car rental.

Sign Up for Loyalty Programs

Rental car loyalty programs are free to join, so register for any programs you might use in the future. My favorite car rental loyalty program benefit is that I can skip the counter and head right to my reserved car. Some programs allow members to choose a car from the available pool. 【1】

Optimize Your Strategy

Do you really need a rental car from the airport? For instance, if your flight arrives at night, take a free hotel shuttle and pick up your car the next day. The car rental location might even be at your hotel or can pick you up (or deliver the car to you). 2

3

For a city trip, you may not even need a rental car. Research whether mass transit, taxi, Uber, bike rental, and other transportation methods will suffice. Parking charges at downtown hotels may cost more than your car rental rate, so it may be doubly in your favor to give up a rental car. In some locations, a bike might be more efficient and economical than a car.

Search for Specials

4 In conjunction with your personal discount code, you may also find a last-minute rate, free rental day, or other promotion. My favorite annual travel deal is driving a car one-way out of Florida after Spring Break with rates as low as $1 per day.

Consider Alternative Rental Options

Major car rental companies might have an associated discount brand at your rental location, like Firefly for Hertz. 5 An independent or smaller local agency may fit your needs; like A1 or Lucky Owl in Honolulu. Many people prefer to check rates on Hotwire and Priceline, especially for last-minute rentals.

A.Rental rates are likely lower away from the airport, plus you might save the cost of an entire rental day.

B.I use discount-finding websites to track my car reservations.

C.Smaller brands, like Thrifty and Fox, might offer better service and lower rates.

D.In addition to saving time and offering freedom of choice, loyalty members earn points and receive special promotions.

E.Check car rental company websites for current specials.

F.Skip the Car

G.Use a bike

【题目】Our quarrel with efficiency is not that it gets things done, but that it is a thief of time when it leaves us no leisure to enjoy ourselves, and that it strains our nerves when we try to get things done perfectly. In building bridges, American engineers calculate so finely and exactly as to make the two ends come together within one-tenth of an inch. But when two Chinese begin to dig a tunnel from both sides of a mountain both come out on the other side. --The Chinese’s firm belief is that it doesn’t matter so long as a tunnel is dug through, and if we have two instead of one, why, we have a double track to boot.

The pace of modern industrial life forbids this kind of glorious and magnificent idling. But, worse than that, it imposes upon us a different conception of time as measured by the clock and eventually turns the human being into a clock himself. (This sort of thing is bound to come to China, as is evident, for instance, in the case of a factory of twenty thousand worker. The luxurious prospect of twenty thousand workers coming in at their own sweet pleasure at all hours is, of course, somewhat terrifying.)Nevertheless, such efficiency is what makes life so hard and full of excitement. A man who has to be punctually at a certain place at five o’clock has the whole afternoon from one to five ruined for him already. Every American adult is arranging his time on the pattern of the schoolboy - three o’clock for this, five o’clock for that, six-thirty for change of dress, six-fifty for entering the taxi, and seven o’clock for arriving at the destination. It just makes life not worth living.

【1】The writer objects to efficiency mainly on the grounds that it ____.

A. entitles us to too much leisure time

B. deprives us of leisure time

C. urges us to get things done punctually

D. imposes on us a perfect concept of time

【2】 In the eyes of the author, the introduction of industrial life gives rise to ____.

A. more emphasis on efficiency

B. magnificent idling of time

C. the excitement of life

D. terrifying schoolboy

【3】The passage tells us ____.

A. Chinese workers come to work when it is convenient

B. Americans ought not to work so hard for efficiency

C. Chinese engineers are on better terms with the management

D. all Americans are forced to be efficient against their will

【4】What is implied but NOT stated by the author is that ____.

A. every American is arranging his time in the pattern of a schoolboy

B. every American is reluctant to be efficient

C. every one should have some time to spend as he pleases

D. being punctual is an undesirable habit which should not be formed

【题目】For the last 10 years, job listing site CareerBuilder has put out a list called “The Most Unbelievable Excuses for Calling in Sick.” For example, an employee said he couldn’t come in because his false teeth flew out the window while he was driving down the highway. The excuses were gathered through a survey that ran among 3,000 workers and 2,000 hiring managers.

The list is entertaining but there is a more serious issue hidden in this story. Federal law does not require private employers to give any paid sick leave, making the US the only one of the world’s wealthiest nations that doesn’t guarantee workers this right. Since 2006, cities and states have been adopting their own paid sick leave laws. California, Washington. DC and 13 cities including New York now require many employers to provide some sort of paid sick leave. But according to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, 39% of private employees still have no access to paid days off. In the CareerBuilder survey, 38% of respondents said they go to work when they’re sick because they can’t afford to miss a day’s pay. The survey also shows that workers are taking a risk when they come up with far-fetched excuses. Nearly one in five employers says they have fired an employee for calling in sick with a fake excuse. If you’re spending the day at the beach while pretending to be ill, don’t post about it on Facebook. Nearly one in four employers (24%) has caught an employee lying about being sick by checking social media.

The motto of this story: If you really are sick, don’t come to work and spread your bacteria around the office. But if you just want to stay home, go with “I’m running a fever.” rather than one of these ridiculous excuses.

【1】The underlined word “far-fetched” in Paragraph 2 probably means ______.

A. impossible to find B. likely to be true

C. difficult to believe D. easy to believe

【2】What problem is exposed in the survey?

A. Many employees have no access to paid sick leave.

B. Private employers make their workers work extra hours.

C. Some employees are not satisfied with their boss.

D. Private employers sometimes break the Federal law.

【3An employee will run the risk of being fired if he ______.

A. asks for sick leave

B. lies about being sick

C. posts his holiday on Facebook

D. spreads bacteria around the office

【4】What will the author present following the last paragraph?

A. A list of survey data.

B. A list of serious issues.

C. A list of reasonable facts.

D. A list of ridiculous excuses.

Some people make you feel comfortable when they are around. You spend an hour with them and feel as if you have known them half your life. 【1】.

Here are several skills that good talkers have. If you follow the skills, they’ll help you put people at their ease, and make friends with them quickly.

First of all, good talkers ask questions. 2 . One well-known businesswoman says, “At business lunches, I always ask people what they did that morning. It’s a common question, but it will get things going.” From there you can move on to other matters—sometimes to really personal questions. 3. Second, once good talkers have asked questions, they listen to the answers .This point seems clear, but it isn’t. Your questions should have a point and help to tell what sort of person you are talking to. And to find out, you really have to listen carefully and attentively.

4 . If someone sticks to one topic, you can take it as a fact that he’s really interested in it. Real listening also means not just listening to words, but to tones of voice. If the voice sounds dull, then, it’s time for you to change the subject.

Finally, good talkers know well how to deal with the occasion of parting. If you’re saying goodbye, you may give him a firm handshake and say, “I’ve really enjoyed meeting you.” 5. Let people know what you feel, and they may walk away feeling as if they’ve known you half their life.

A. Real listening at least means some things.

B. You can become a popular person.

C. Almost anyone, no matter how shy he is, will answer a question.

D. And how he answers will let you know how far you can go.

E. If you want to see that person again, don’t keep it a secret.

F. It’s polite to listen to others with a smile.

G. These people have something in common.

【题目】“Our aim is to take our art to the world and make people understand what it is to move,” said David Belle, the founder of parkour ( also called free running-a kind of extreme sport).

Do you love running? It is a good exercise, yet many people find it boring. But what if making your morning jog a creative one? Like jumping from walls and over gaps, and ground rolls? Just like the James Bond in the movie Casino Royale? Bond jumps down from a roof to a windowsill and then runs several blocks over obstacles on the way. It is just because of Bond’s wonderful performances that the sport has become popular worldwide.

Yes, that’s parkour, an extreme street sport aimed at moving from one point to another as quickly as possible, getting over all the obstacles in the path using only the abilities of the human body. Parkour is considered an extreme sport. As its participants dash around a city, they may jump over fences, run up walls and even move from rooftop to rooftop.

Parkour can be just as exciting and charming as it sounds, but its participants see parkour much more than that.

Overcoming all the obstacles on the course and in life is part of the philosophy(理念) behind parkour. This is the same as life. You must determine your destination, go straight, jump over all the barriers as if in parkour and never fall back from them in your life, to reach the destination successfully. A parkour lover said, “I love parkour because its philosophy has become my life, my way to do everything.”

Another philosophy we’ve learnt from parkour is freedom. It can be done by anyone, at any time, anywhere in the world. It is a kind of expression of trust in yourself that you earn energy and confidence.

【1】Parkour has become popular throughout the world because of .

A. the film, Casino Royale

B. its founder, David Belle

C. its risks and tricks

D. the varieties of participants

【2】The underlined word “obstacles” in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to“ ”.

A. streets B. objects C. roofs D. barriers

【3】Which of the following is true of parkour?

A. It challenges human abilities.

B. It is a good but boring sport.

C. It needs special training.

D. It is a team sport.

【4】Which of the following is the philosophy of parkour?

A. Sports and extremes.

B. Excitement and popularity.

C. Dreams and success.

D. Determination and freedom.
