【题目】Urban Transportation in Canada
Public transportation Transit passes
All cities and most major towns in Canada have a public transportation system with one or more modes of transportation(bus, subway, train, etc. ) The bus is the most common form of urban transportation in Canada. To use public transportation, you must purchase a ticket or a transit pass. Transit passes allow you unlimited use of public transportation for a specific period (one month or more). They are usually cheaper than buying many tickets if you plan to use public transportation often.
Transportation for people with disabilities
Public transportation often has features to assist people with disabilities. In many cities and towns, there are also transportation services available specifically for people with limited mobility, such as specially equipped buses. You can find out about these services in the same way you would learn more about other public transportation options.
Etiquette on public transportation
When taking public transportation such as a bus or train, it is important to understand the unspoken rules of conduct in the shared space. Here are a few things to note:
Be polite and respectful to others around you. For example, maintain an appropriate noise level when talking or making a phone call.
If you are carrying a backpack or a large shoulder bag in a crowded public transit vehicle, keep it close to you, preferably at your feet to avoid hitting people with it as you walk by.
Avoid pushing or touching others in order to make more room for yourself. Sometimes public transit can become very crowded, but it is important to keep calm and give others appropriate personal space.
Have your proof of payment accessible in case you are asked to show it.
【1】What is the advantage of using transit passes over buying tickets?
A. Safer trips.
B. Longer service hours.
C. Lower costs.
D. More use of transport.
【2】How does the transportation system help people with disabilities
A. By running special transport services.
B. By offering fewer transportation options.
C. By limiting their mobility on city buses.
D. By providing free rides in towns and cities.
【3】What is considered impolite on public transportation?

【题目】根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Forgiveness
To forgive is a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.
Try the following steps:
Calm yourself. You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way. Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.
If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.
Don't forget to forgive yourself. But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.
A. Why should you forgive?
B. How should you start to forgive?
C. Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
D. Try to see things from your offender's angle.
E. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
F. To make your anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.
G. If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.

【题目】When high temperatures are around the country, some things also go up. Here are four things expected to rise along with our desire to stay indoors and best the heat.
①Sales of goods that keep you cool.
Malls are high on the list of places where people often go for free air conditioning outside home in summer.【1】Goods related to keeping cool, like air conditioners, fans or sun care items, are very popular.
②【2】
Pests like stink bugs(椿象) grow fast during summer heat waves, and many agriculture experts are expecting a repeat of last year’s incident that harmed fruit and crops, particularly on the East Coast.
③Energy bills
【3】With all those air conditioners and fans working, it makes sense that energy bills will be higher than average.【4】“Not only are people going to have extremely high energy bills for July, it will also put increased stress on power plants, and we’re going to see more air pollution because of it,” says Angela Fritz.
④Violence
Heat waves may cause violence, right?
Not necessarily, says Richard Larrick, a researcher. He took a unique look at the relationship between violence and heat through baseball. Larrick and his research team examined 57,294 Major League Baseball games taking place between 1952 and 2017 and found that while heat may increase violence, there always has to be a motive. “【5】Instead, heat affects a specific form of violence,” he said.
A. Air pollution
B. Pest population
C. Rising heat is the expected response in any summer
D. Heat does not directly lend to more violence in general
E. More and more people are worried about their expenses
F. As more energy is used, air-quality problems may occur
G. So it’s not a surprise that some sales jump during heat waves.

【题目】根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。Food festivals around the world
Stilton Cheese Rolling
May Day is a traditional day for celebrations, but the 2,000 English villagers of Stilton must be the only people in the world who include cheese rolling in their annual plans. Teams of four, dressed in a variety of strange and funny clothes, roll a complete cheese along a 50-metre course. On the way, they must not kick or throw their cheese, or go into their competitors' lane(赛道). Competition is fierce and the chief prize is a complete Stilton cheese weighing about four kilos (disappointingly, but understandably the cheeses used in the race are wooden ones). All the competitors arc served with beer or port wine, the traditional accompaniment for Stilton cheese.

【题目】We see the world in three dimensions. Now, we can print in three dimensions, too, thanks to a manufacturing process: 3D printing.
3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file.
The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive (连续的) layers of material until the object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizon till (水平的) cross-section of the eventual object. Today’s 3D printers are being used to print everything from design models to jewelry, crafts, product parts, body parts, and even food.
3D printing starts with making a virtual design of the object you want to create. This virtual design is for instance a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file. This CAD file is created using a 3D modeling application or with a 3D scanner (to copy an existing object). A 3D scanner can make a 3D digital copy of an object.
You will have to prepare a 3D model before it is ready to be 3D printed. This is what they call slicing. Slicing is dividing a 3D model into hundreds or thousands of horizontal layers and needs to be done with software.
Sometimes a 3D model can be sliced from within a 3D modeling software application. It is also possible that you are forced to use a certain slicing tool for a certain 3D printer.
When the 3D model is sliced, you are ready to feed it to your 3D printer. This can be done via USB. SD or WiFi. It really depends on what brand and type 3D printer you have.
When a file is uploaded in a 3D printer, the object is ready to be 3D printed layer by layer. The 3D printer reads every slice (2D image) and creates a three dimensional object.
Before you pick up a 3D printer and experimenting in the 3D world, consider how big the objects you might want to create. If your goal is to print foot-long rulers, you’ll fall short of that goal if the printer you choose can only handle objects smaller 6 inches in height and width.
Another reality check is print speed. You’ll be able to knock out a day’s worth of chores (琐事) while the printer is running, with a typical 4-inch model requiring as many as 12 hours to print. As with ordinary printers, print speed also depends on how well it prints.
