【题目】Canada: off the beaten track — three to see
Rocky Mountains
The Rockies run along the Alberta-British Columbia border and are inside two huge national parks — Banff to the south and Jasper to the north. Banff was Canada’s first wildlife reserve and these days the town of Banff is the most popular tourist destination in the country. But Jasper National Park is larger, wilder, and less well-explored. Between the parks of Banff and Jasper is the Columbia Icefield, a huge bowl of ice made up of about thirty glaciers. If you don’t like ice, the Rockies offer wildlife walks, swimming, camping, hiking, canoeing, mountain climbing, and plenty of places to stay. Accommodation costs(住宿费)are usually lower at the Jasper end of this superb mountain playground.
Lunenburg
Lunenburg is south from Halifax, along a foggy coast of rocky seas, fishing villages, and historic towns. It is a beautiful little shipbuilding town and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Fishing has always been big in Lunenburg: most of Atlantic Canada’s deep-sea fishing boats leave from here, and North America’s biggest fish-processing factory is located in the town. Lunenburg still has many wooden buildings and as a result feels like an 18th century British colonial(殖民时期的)town. You can visit the town’s Fisheries Museum or just wander around, looking at the wooden houses in the old streets — and of course have a dinner of seafood.
Churchill
One of the few places in the north that is “easy” to get to, Churchill is a 1.5-day train journey from Winnipeg. Churchill is a major port, but eco-tourism is becoming more and more important. Although it is freezing, many visitors come to see the polar bears, whales, Arctic foxes, and if they are lucky, the Northern Lights. Churchill calls itself the “Polar Bear Capital of the World”, and for a good reason: the town sits right in the middle of the animals’ migration route, and the cute but deadly white bears sometimes wander into the town. Tours to see the bears from September to November are the most popular attraction.

【题目】The following simple exercise routine works as well as prescription medication(处方药) without side effects.
A jog a day could keep your headaches at bay; regular cardio workouts(有氧锻炼) may prevent migraines(偏头痛), a growing body of research suggests.
Migraine patients had fewer headaches after doing 40-minute cycling workouts three times a week for three months, according to a Swedish study.
The exercise routine worked just as well as one of the top migraine-preventing drugs—topamirate, but without side effects of depression and tremors(颤抖).
“Cardio workouts can help with regular headaches, too,” says Alexander Mauskop, M.D., director of the New York Headache Center in Manhattan.
There are a couple of theories on how it works.
“Breaking a sweat may relieve stress,” says Dr. Mauskop. Headaches are often triggered by stress, and if you remove the trigger, you release the pain.
The feel-good chemicals produced when you exercise actually block your pain sensors, acting as a natural painkiller.
Since headaches can be caused by many different factors like genetics, lack of sleep, or certain foods, the cardio workout won’t be the solution for everyone, Dr. Mauskop says. But one German study found that it helped 65 percent of patients, which makes it as effective as the best medicines on the market.
Dr. Mauskop recommends his patients do a half-hour reasonable intensity(强度) cardio workout, like jogging, biking, or swimming three times a week. These workouts are meant to be slow and steady, as opposed to high-intensity intervals that alternate between all-out runs and rest.
Pushing yourself too much or increasing the intensity too quickly can trigger headaches in some people, so make sure your heart rate doesn’t jump above 150 BPM. If you don’t have a heart rate monitor, then breathe only through your nose. You’ll know you’re going too hard if you can’t keep up that breathing pattern.
Your migraines could start disappearing in a couple of weeks, Dr. Mauskop says.
【1】According to the passage, the author may agree that _______.
A. jogging, swimming and fishing are cardio workouts.
B. neither cardio workouts nor topamirate has side effects
C. migraine patients may be cured by regular cardio workouts
D. cardio workouts will be the solution for everyone with migraines
【2】The underlined word “triggered” in Paragraph 7 can be replaced by _______.
A. cured B. released
C. caused D. monitored
【3】What would be the best title?
A. A cure for headaches B. Side effects of migraines
C. The causes of headaches D. Advantages of cardio workouts.

【题目】 The cracked (有裂缝的) step four years ago was the start of it. That day, I awoke tired—the children were tiny and needing so much—and I had a golden afternoon of rest ahead, my mother stepping in to allow me to catch up on my sleep. I dropped them off and drove home—the sun shining and my bed signaling. As I was about to enter the house, I caught sight of a deep crack beneath my feet.
Without thinking, I turned around, walked back to the car and drove to a DIY store. Four hours later, I had all the tools, had mixed my own cement (水泥), filled in the crack and repaired the foundation. Perfect. As I stood up to take a photo of my handiwork, I realized that I was trembling. I’d forgotten my shot at a nice long nap, and my children were already on their way home. That sleep... that promise to self was broken, because I had focused, instead, on the crack in the step.
Suddenly, everything started to hurt. My head, my throat, my back. I couldn’t stop shaking. What earned then is that when we break the promises we make to our bodies they will not be silenced. This is when we overwork and overthink to the point of breaking down. Ironically (讽刺地), for many of us, it is only when we have no choice— when we fall ill—that we learn to listen. For me, when that crack ended in a hospital stay which sent me to bed for two unmoving weeks while my body worked to clear two different infections, the lesson is ever present. I did it to myself—a whole twisted spin on DIY.
Sadly it took another two ridiculous DIY projects to finally get through. The cracks will never be fully filled. Focus, then, on your own inner core the feeding of that light, that fire and that strength.
【1】What made the author so sleepy in the first place?
A.Taking care of the kids.B.Visiting her mother.
C.Doing the housework.D.Dealing with DIY projects.
【2】How did the author feel as soon as she finished her repair work?
A.Regretful.B.Upset.
C.Proud.D.Thankful.
【3】What can be implied from Paragraph 3?
A.Our health is ignored deliberately.
B.Our body will respond to what we do.
C.The author took her mother’s advice.
D.The author stayed in hospital for two weeks.
【4】What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To present a way to fill a crack.
B.To show the danger of DIY.
C.To stress the importance of sleep.
D.To encourage focusing on oneself.
