Taking this volunteer trip to the Wildlife Sanctuary project was something I had wanted to do several years. 【1】 (fortunate), between work and a busy schedule, it was always something that I “might” do “eventually" rather than actually doing. Then I decided it had to happen. I made preparations, booked my trip, 【2】 slightly hesitantly headed off to the airport.

Family members, friends and fans are mourning the death of the basketball great Kobe Bryant. Looking back to his whole life, Bryant was widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of his generation. Even after his retirement, Kobe Bryant is still a winner. The former Los Angeles Lakers star won an Oscar in the animated short category for "Dear Basketball,” a poem he wrote after ending his 20-year career on the court in 2016.

He’ll add it to an already jammed trophy collection that includes five NBA championships with the Lakers, two Olympic gold medals, NBA Finals most valuable player awards, a league MVP award and four All-Star game MVP awards.

Since hanging up his basketball shoes, Bryant has thrown himself into business (a new Nike shoe) and various forms of storytelling.

“As basketball players, we're told to shut up and dribble（运球）,” Bryant once said on stage. “I’m glad we did a little bit more than that.”

He thanked his wife, Vanessa, and his three daughters, naming each of them. He spoke a few words of Italian — a language he learned as a child growing up in Italy — and closed by telling them, “You arc my inspiration.'

Yesterday I showed my friend Kate in Baoding city. First, we went to Zhili Governor Office, where is a very famous tourist spot in China. And then we visited the Ancient Lotus Pond Garden, where we had a great fun. Later, I took him to Baoding Botanic Garden. We both attracted by its beautiful scenery at first see. We nearly spent three hours walk around it. At about 6 pm we went back happy. From Kate’s high spirit I learned that she is very pleased with this visit.

A terrible fire happened in one office building in our city at about nine o'clock last night.

In the beginning, we saw flames with thick black smoke coming out from the five floor, and we also hear the explosion of the gas tank. It was said what the fire started at the first floor, spreading one by one to the floors above, but finally reached the top floor. Some windows and brick wall were burnt down because the heat of the fire. Many people stood outside on the streets watch the fire in horror. Many bravely firemen and fire engines came quickly. Luckily, there was no one person in the office building when the fire was broke out. It took about two hours for the firemen to put out a big fire.

Famine came again and for a while, neither mother or cub had anything to eat. Then one day, She-wolf brought home some meat! It was strange stuff, different from anything the cub had smelled or tasted before. And it was for him! Little could he know that his mother had taken the left fork by the stream, by the lair of the lynx(山猫巢穴), and stolen kitten. As he finished his meal, he heard his mother snarling(咆哮)in strange and terrible way. He shivered with fear.

The lynx was mad with anger at the loss of her child and she had tracked She-wolf to her cave.

In the glare of the afternoon light, the lynx crouched at the cave entrance. A coarse scream left no doubt what she meant to do. The cub and his mother were trapped!

The lynx threw herself inside the cave, and She-wolf leaped upon her.

Snarling and howling, the two mothers fought like crazy, the lynx pulling and tearing with her teeth and claws, She-wolf using her teeth alone.

Seeing his mother in such danger, the cub sank his teeth into the wild cat’s leg. Although he didn’t know it, this is probably what saved their lives. The lynx beat at the cub, tearing his shoulder, but he had slowed her down. After a brief, cruel fight, She-wolf put an end to her once and for all.

They had won, but at a price.

The cub licked his mother’s wounds. He knew she was weak and sick. For a week she never left the cave.

Then at last, her strength returned and she was ready to hunt again. This time, the cub went with her. She-wolf noticed a change in her child. He had complete faith in himself from their victory over the lynx. They had fought a wild cat and lived!

Keep your hands clean and stop touching your face

"Wiping down surfaces on a plane won't hurt, as long as it doesn't give you a false sense of security,” Andrew Mehle, associate professor of medical microbiology said, stressing that cleaning your space on a plane should be done in conjunction with washing hands and following other best practices. Dylan had heard the sores of sick children, but had never once looked into the eyes of a child and understood the hard truth-that without our help, the child would likely die.

I spend the drive explaining the case of Hector to my son, who pretended to ignore me the entire time.“He's seven, only weighs thirty pounds and is very sick. He has a heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot, which could kill him. It is a miracle(奇迹) that he is still alive. ”

I went on to explain that it took a team of volunteer medical staff to get Hector to the hospital from his remote village and care for him while he was there. Still, Dylan seemed unimpressed.

We stopped at a convenience store for water and snacks. Dylan had one large and one small Slurpee (思乐冰饮料). He said the small one was for Hector. I doubted whether the little guy would be able to drink it, but remained silent. This was the first interest Dylan had shown in being there. I wasn't about to ruin it.

I stopped at the nurse's station to check on Hector's progress while Dylan went to his room. Our patient was recovering physically，but the nurse was concerned that Hector was struggling emotionally. She said “Kids usually bounce back fast, but he hardly speaks and never smiles.”

The program uses a model that pairs volunteers with seniors, based on availability and language. Those volunteers are trained by ACT's team via video conferencing and then given a list of older adults. The volunteer calls the individuals and takes their order, working with grocer offerings of a Provigo store in the area. When the call is over, the order gets sent to Provigo, which gathers and delivers the order to the senior. It won't take the place of the work of the food bank; seniors are paying for their groceries.

There is also an important social element to the call, which doubles as a friendly check -in. The volunteer chats a bit with the senior, who may be very lonely and anxious. One volunteer says it has also been a rewarding experience and gives her the opportunity to help others while staying at home, which they are all being encouraged to do.

The program is a response to a number of factors, including the fact that many older adults are on a fixed income and may not have the internet access needed to order groceries online. It is targeting seniors who aren't able to access New Hope's usual meals on wheels service.

So far the project is a success, with a growing number of volunteers and seniors. As for what's next, Concordia is optimistic but acknowledges that the team will need to be nimble to accommodate the changing realities of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are at a critical time and we need to do everything we can, together, to help out.
