第三部分:阅读理解(共两节 满分 40分)
第一节(共15小题 每小题 2 分, 满分 30 分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项
While many modern forms of communication like phone calls, e-mails, and letters, are extremely convenient, in my opinion, nothing beats speaking to another person face to face.
The first and most obvious advantage that a face-to-face communication has over a letter and
e-mail is that there is the ability to interactively converse. If the sender of a letter or an email does not write clearly, then much time must be spent in clearing up the misunderstanding. In a face-to-face conversation, misunderstandings are easily dealt with because of the interactive nature of it.
I would still argue that the face-to-face conversation is better because you can see the other person. Not all communication is verbal; the meaning of much of what we say depends on our body language and the tone of voice. Joking and irony are particularly difficult to express and enjoy without seeing the expression on someone’s face, or watching the movements of their body.
Finally, if the goal of communication is to maintain or deepen the relationship with someone, the face-to-face communication offers the choice of communication by touch even if we could communicate by the video. Trust and respect between business partners can be established with a firm handshake. No amount of body language can convey the excitement of a high five between friends, and no number of words can communicate the comforting embrace of a loved one. Touch is the first basic method of our human relationship before spoken language, and it is only available when people communicate face to face.
56. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. How to communicate more effectively.
B. The importance of using body language in communication
C. Face-to-face communication, the best way of communicating
D. Comparison of different communication forms
57.Which of the following is NOT true in the passage?
A. A letter or e-mail is always written unclearly.
B. Business partners can show trust through a firm handshake.
C. During a conversation, body language is also important.
D. The face-to-face conversation is a way of communication.
58.The author’s attitude towards forms of communication is .
A.Modern forms of communication like phone calls and e-mails are extremely convenient.
B. Traditional ways of communication are out of date and should fall into disuse.
C. Face-to-face communication can only be used among strangers.
D.Face-to-face communication has advantages over the other ways of communication.
59. What does the underlined word“maitain”in last paragraph mean?
A .keep B. stand C. destroy D. reduce

Communicating effectively means more than knowing what to say and when to say it. Communication involves the subtle signals your body language sends to those who are watching. Here are some common body actions and the impressions they create:
● Fiddling (好动) — Playing with your watch or a pen looks like you’re bored or impatient.
● Clock watching — It looks like you’re to move on to something else.
● Tapping — Tapping your feet or fingers suggests you are impatient or nervous.
● Staring — An unblinking (不眨眼的) stare conveys threatening or violent behaviour.
● Legs crossed or body hunched (弓背,耸肩) — Closing up your body profile — becoming smaller — looks like you lack confidence.
● Arms crossed — If you keep your arms folded during communication, you appear to be defending yourself against the others.
● Touching your face — When you have your hand in front of your mouth, you appear very shy.
● Rubbing your nose, looking away — People who are lying often rub their nose or look away when speaking.
● No eye contact — If you won’t look the other speaker in the eye, you seem to have low interest or a lack of confidence. (Don’t forget staring above.)
How you communicate with your body language is just as important as what you say. Watch your body language and control the unconscious messages you might be sending.
68. According to the passage, effective communication includes all of the following EXCEPT _____.
A. knowing what to say
B. sending unconscious messages to other people
C. saying the right thing at the right time
D. getting information from the other speaker’s body language
69. Which of the following people looks shy according to the passage?
A. B.
C. D.
70. If you want to show confidence when communicating, you should ______.
A. cross your legs or hunch your body
B. avoid direct eye contact
C. look the other speaker in the eye
D. keep touching your face
71. Which of the following would be the best title for this passage?
A. How to make a good impression on others
B. Can you read body language?
C. Control your body language for effective communication
D. How to send effective information through body language

(2)读写任务:(共25分)
阅读下面的短文,然后按要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
People used to say, “ The hand that rocks the cradle(摇篮) rules the world.” And “ Behind every successful man there is a woman.”
Both these saying mean the same thing . Men rule the world, but their mothers and wives rule them. Most American women wish to make their husbands and sons successful, but some of them want more for themselves. They want to be as successful as men.
The American women’s liberation(解放) movement was started by women who didn’t want to stand behind successful men. They wanted to stand beside men, with the same chance for success. They refused to work side by side by side with men who did the same work for a higher pay.
This movement is quite new, and many American women don’t agree yet. But it has already made some important changes in women’s lives—in men’s lives, too. Liberated women are proud of being a woman and have confidence in themselves. More and more women are holding important positions in companies, institutions and politics. More people than ever have realized that women deserve as much respect as men.

Like all animal species, plant species must spread their offspring to suitable areas where they can grow and pass on their parents’ genes. Young animals generally spread by walking or flying. Because plants don’t have that ability, they must somehow hitchhike(搭车). Some plant seeds scatter by blowing in the wind or floating on water. Many other plant species, though, trick an animal into carrying their seeds. How do they do this? They enclose the seeds within a tasty fruit and advertise the fruit’s ripeness by its colour or smell. The hungry animal collects and swallows the fruit, walks or flies off, and later spits out the seeds somewhere far from its parent tree. Seeds can thereby be carried for thousands of miles. It may surprise you to learn that plant seeds can resist digestion. In fact, some seeds actually require passage through an animal’s body before they can grow.
Wild strawberries offer a good example of hitchhiking tactics. When strawberry seeds are still young and not yet ready to be planted, the surrounding fruit is green, sour and hard. When the seeds finally mature, the berries turn red, sweet, and tender. The change in the berries’ colour serves as a signal to birds which then eat the strawberries, fly off, and eventually spit out the seeds.
Naturally, strawberry plants didn’t set out with a conscious intention of attracting birds only when their seeds were ready to be dispersed. Nor did birds set out with the intent of planting strawberries. Rather, strawberry plants evolved through natural selection. The sweeter and redder the final strawberry, the more birds spread its ripe seeds; the greener and more sour the young strawberry, the fewer birds destroyed the seeds by eating berries before the seeds were ready.

Lateral thinking(迂回思维),first described by Edward de Bono in 1967,is just a few years older than Edward’s son.You might imagine that Caspar was raised to be an adventurous thinker, but the de Bono was so famous,Casspar’s parents worried that any time he would say something bright at school, his teachers might ask,“Where do you get that idea from?”
“We had to be careful and not overdo it.”Edward admits. Now Caspar is at Oxford-which once looked unlikely because he is also slightly dyslexic(诵读困难).In fact, when he was applying to Oxford, none of his school teachers thought he had a chance.“So then we did several thinking sessions,”his father says,“using my techniques and, when he went up for the exam,he did extremely well.”Soon after,Edward de Bone decided to write his latest book,“Teach Your Child How to Think”,in which he transforms the thinking skills he developed for brain-storming businessmen into informal exercises for parents and children to share.
Thinking is traditionally regarded as something executed in a logical sequence, and everybody knows that children aren’t very logical. So isn’t it an uphill battle, trying to teach them to think?“You know,”Edward de Bono says,“if you examine people’s thinking,it is quite unusual to find faults of logic. But the faults of perception are huge!Often we think ineffectively because we take too limited a view.”
