Campbell, 36, has never looked so happy ― and no wonder. Her five-day community service sentence in New York has served as the basis of a fashion shoot for W magazine, the monthly companion to Women's Wear Daily, which is regarded as the American rag trade bible.

W's editorial director, Patrick McCarthy, said the 20-page feature would run in the July issue.

"We're having great fun watching her every day," he said. "It's going to make a great story … Naomi was very keen to do it, she thought it would be a lot of fun."

Campbell has used the short walk from her car to the doors of the Sanitation（卫生）Department's District 3 Garage as a catwalk, each day presenting a new suit carefully matched with must-have sunglasses and handbags.

Her agency, IMG, says Campbell's basic rate is about £25,000 ($A60,000) a day.

News that Campbell had used what was supposed to be a punishment ― she mopped floors and cleaned toilets ― as a promotional money-spinner has angered New Yorkers.

New York lawyer Raoul Felder said that while there was nothing illegal about Campbell's deal, her behaviour had "made a mockery of our system of justice and insulted（侮辱）every hard-working person in this city".

With big handbags becoming a key fashion accessory（配件）for working women, health experts are warning they can also become a key health concern.

Bags for women have become bigger and heavier as designers combine briefcases with handbags and straps have become longer, resulting in many users complaining of neck, shoulder and back problems.

“I see so many women with neck pains and headaches and what I usually do is look for their purse and pick it up,” said Jane Sadler, a family practice physician at Baylor Medical Center in Garland, Texas. “We take it over to the scale and weigh it and usually they're anywhere from 7 to 10 pounds...We're really going to see women with more and more problems later on if we continue the big purse craze.”

"The extra-large purses are quite phenomenal. They look beautiful when the women wear them, but I don't know how aware they are of the potential problems," Case said.

Placing objects on one shoulder was one of the least efficient（有效率的）ways of carrying a load, according to a professor from Cornell University in New York State. “This causes a great imbalance,” he said. “If a big bag is a fashion accessory, then occasional and symbolic use is fine. If not, then keep it light.”

A 13-year-old Chinese girl, Fan Yi (Nancy), who had her primary education in US, recently published her first fairy tale, Swordbird. The English fairy tale was listed as the bestseller of children's fiction in the US, the Shanghai Evening Post reported.

Fan Yi was greatly interested in observing birds ever since she was a little girl. In Hanmilton, New York, where she lives, she often watches kingfishers and woodpeckers flying over her house from the small woods nearby. And the inspiration for writing the book Swordbird actually came from one of her dreams. At that time, she was studying American history in school and happened to read many articles in magazines about the 9?11 terrorist attacks. One day, she had a dream in which some rosefinches and bluejays were controlled by some black birds and began to fight with each other. When she woke up, she decided to turn her dream into a story and to convey her message for peace to the public.

In order to get her book published in China, Fan translated the entire English version into Chinese.

“It is a learning process. Since I didn't know many Chinese idioms, I had to get help from my mom and dad from time to time. For another thing, a lot of poems in the original story are written in rhyme. So when I translated them into Chinese, I wanted to make sure that they were in rhyme, too,” she said.

Fan Yi was born in Beijing in 1993. She stayed in Beijing until she finished her first grade of primary school. Then she moved with her parents to the United States when she was seven. Two years later, she started to write her English story.

In March, this year, the book was published by Harper Collins Publishers. It was selected as the week's bestseller of children's fiction by the New York Times soon after it was published.

In future, Fan Yi might write more series for her book. It is expected that her Swordbird Prelude（序篇）might come off the press next year.
