Saving Our City

It is very important to deal with the rubbish in cities．．．

Music is often divided into several categories or kinds．Some of the categories are classical music, traditional music, rock music and jazz music．The first kind, classical music, refers to orchestra music that originated in Europe a few hundred years ago．Most of the original classical music was composed or written in Italy, Germany, Austria or Russia．Classical music is usually played by a variety of string and wind instruments．

The second type of music is traditional music．It comes from particular culture．Every culture has its own special forms of traditional music．For example, “blues” music is one kind of traditional music in the United States and “enka” music is one kind of traditional music in Japan．Each traditional music has its own special instrument．

Another kind of music is rock music．It is generally a loud kind of music played with a strong beat．Rock musicians often use electric instruments．Rock music probably began in Europe about 30 or 40 years ago．It became very popular, especially among young people during 1960’s and 1970’s．

The fourth kind of music is jazz．Jazz probably comes from Africa．Jazz has a different kind of rhythm from other kinds of music．A variety of music instruments are used to play this kind of music especially wind instruments．

Of course there are other categories of music．In addition, many kind of music are combination of classical and traditional or classical and jazz and so on．

                       Different Music

Children who were breast-fed(母乳喂养) are better at dealing with stress than their bottle-fed classmates, a Swedish research shows．

A study of thousands of British youngsters showed that those who were given powder milk could feel it more difficult to deal with stressful events----such as the divorce( 离婚)of their parents．

   It is thought that the close contact helps mother and child bond and encourages a feeling of security that enables the child to deal better with traumatic situations in later life．

   Research found a mother’s milk may help reduce stress and the process may feed the growth of the parts of the brain crucial(关键的) in handling stress and anxiety．

   The Swedish findings follow a number of other studies which have shown that breast milk protects against infection, heart disease, diabetes and obesity．Breast-feeding may also reduce the mother’s risk of having breast cancer．

   The support of breast-feeding is so strong that the Department of Health recommends that mothers should feed their babies on breast milk alone for the first six months to ensure they get the best start in life．

   However, many women find breast-feeding difficult and claim they are too busy to do so or are not aware of the knowledge．In the latest study, researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm tracked the health of almost 9,000 boys and girls born in the UK in 1970．

   When the children reached ten, researchers gauged(测量)their ability to cope with stress by looking at how they were affected by family problems．

The results showed that those who were bottle-fed were more than four times as stressed by such events than those who were breast-fed．

A few weeks ago a group of scientists produced a report about global warming and the natural world．They wanted to find out if global warming was dangerous for plants and animals．The scientists were surprised by what they found．They say that during the next 50 years about 25% of land animals and plants will become extinct(灭绝的)．More than 1 million plant and animal species will become extinct by 2050．

Human Cloning Is Wrong

I’m sure many of you have seen Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Multiplicity, or many of the other movies that describe cloning．Most of what you see in these movies is false．What you don’t know is that cloning could be dangerous, to the clone and to our society as a whole．It’s immoral to have a human clone．

What about identity? Humans are promised the right to their own personality．What would happen if we ignore those rights by giving them someone else’s genetic identity? True, personality is not fixed in someone’s genes, but the clone would share any physical appearance or genetic fault of the cloned．

Also, there is a large power struggle here．Cloning means a degree of power and control over another person’s physical identity and that ignores their rights and their only personality．The person doing the cloning would have more power than any parent would have．

Cloning would also deal with killing embryos．You might not have known, but Dolly, the sheep that was cloned in 1996, was one of over 200 sheep embryos and hers was the only embryo that survived．The rest died or were thrown away．Imagine if the failure rate was that high when we started to clone humans．More than 200 embryos, the start of 200 human beings, would die for the sake of just one embryo that would have the same DNA as someone else．

Cloning someone, at this present time, would be extremely dangerous to the birth mother and the clone．In studies done on cows, 4 out of 12 birth mothers died．There is a very high failure rate, which is shown in the cloning of Dolly．Even if you had a few good embryos, failures have been noticeable in animal tests．

So, should we work ahead in the world of cloning? I say no．The risks are greater than the benefits．It’s dangerous to the clone and to the birth mother．We would be killing human lives in the process．It would also be a violation(侵害) of the clone’s right to its own genetic identity and personality．
