Camp memories last forever! We make sure they are unforgettable!

Sun Summer Camps offer so many exciting things for campers to do. Unlike other camp programs that include horses as a small part of their program, at Sun horses ARE the program! We are 100% horse from stable (马厩) management, nature walks, and track rides to bedroom furnishings.

Horses help us achieve many of our aims. Girls can learn to develop responsibility, self-confidence and personal connections in their lives while having fun. Using horses as a wonderful tool for education, our camps offer an interesting place for growth and learning.

Imagine each girl having her very own horse to spend time with and a best friend to love and take care of. Each camper is responsible for a horse for the week. Our riding program provides a lot of riding and lesson time. Campers will learn how to take care of the horse as well as how to ride. Days are filled with horse-related activities to strengthen the connection between each girl and horse, as the girls learn to work safely around the horses.

At Sun we try to create a loving, caring family atmosphere for our campers. We have “The Bunkhouse” (4 girls), the “Wranglers Roost” (4 girls), and “The Hideout”(2 girls) in our comfortable 177-year-old farm house. All meals are home cooked, offering delicious and healthy food for the hungry riders.

Our excellent activities create personalized memories of your child's vacation. Each child will receive a camp T-shirt and a photo album (usually 300-500 pictures) of their stay at camp.

Our camps are offered during June, July and August 2008, for small groups of girls aged 13-16 years, not only from Canada but also other parts of the world.

There are a number of phrases built on the word “put”, such as put up, put out, put off and so on. The expression “putting one on” is among them. You tell a person something that he finds difficult to believe, and he may look at you more closely and ask: “Are you putting me on?” He doesn't think you are serious. Perhaps, you are joking with him, trying to test his reaction.

The expression putting one on is closest to the phrase to put one over on a person, meaning to trick him. However, in certain light situation, many will not say to you: “Stop trying to put one over on me”, they will say: “Stop putting me on.” And when one accuses you of putting him on, he is generally not as serious as he might be.

People who try to put you on are more often just joking, having some pleasant friendly fun. But one who is trying to put something over on you is not to be taken so lightly and usually he is not.

There are people who like to play practical jokes on friends, to put them on in strange way, some funny, some not. This is especially true on April Fool's Day. Year after year, numbers of people let themselves be fooled by the same joke. They just forget what had happened to them the year before. One of these often repeated jokes is a telephone call. The caller changes his voice and says to his friend: “Hello, is this Mr Jones? I have an important message for you from Mr. Fox. Please call him at this number.”The caller then gives his friend the telephone number of the National Zoo.

Unthinkingly, the friend quickly makes his call and says: “Hello, I must speak to Mr Fox. It is urgent.”

The man on the other end says: “Who?”

“Mr. Fox. I don't know his first name. Please hurry.”

The man at the other end answers:“We have no Mr Fox here.” Then he realizes it is a joke and he begins to laugh and says:“Look, friend, this is the zoo. Somebody is putting your leg, putting you on.”

1.Which of the following is true?

A.“Put one on” is often expressed and felt in a pleasant and friendly way.

B.“Put something over on a person” is often used among close friends.

C.Both are used to express the same feeling.

D.Playing practical jokes on friends are always funny.

2.Mr. Jones was not able to speak to Mr. Fox because ________.

A.the one who answered the phone didn't know Mr. Fox

B.Mr. Fox was not in at that moment

C.he called the wrong number and the wrong place

D.this Mr. Fox happened to be an animal

3.This article is mainly about ________.

A.the jokes people are likely to make on April Fool's Day

B.the meaning of “put one on” and how to use it correctly

C.the difference between “put one on” and “put one over on a person”

D.April 1st, a day when people will make fun of each other

Dogs are social animals and without proper training, they will behave like wild animals. They will soil your house, destroy your belongings, bark excessively, fight other dogs and even bite you. Nearly all behavior problems are perfectly normal dog activities that occur at the wrong time or place or are directed at the wrong thing. The key to preventing or treating behavior problems is learning to teach the dog to react in a normal way.

One of the best things you can do for your dogs and yourself is to obedience train it. Obedience training doesn't solve all behavior problems, but it is the most important. Training opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Effective communication is necessary to instruct your dog about what you want it to do.

Training is also an easy way to build the social rank order. When your dog obeys a simple request of “come here, sit,” it is showing obedience and respect for you. It is not necessary to make yourself as leader of the dog pack by using extreme ways. You can teach your dog its subordinate(从属的) role by teaching it to follow your orders. Most dogs love performing tricks for you to happily accept that you are in charge.

Training should be fun and rewarding for you and your dog. It can enrich your relationship and make living together more enjoyable. A well-trained dog is more confident and can more safely be allowed a greater amount of freedom than an untrained animal.

1.Behavior problems of dogs are believed to ________.

A.worsen in modern society                  B.occur when they go wild

C.be just part of their nature                  D.present a danger to the society

2.Effective communication between a dog and its owner is ________.

A.an extreme measure in obedience training

B.a good way to teach the dog new tricks

C.an easy method for dogs to perform tasks

D.a basic way to solve the dog's behavior problems

3.Why do pet dogs love performing tricks for their masters?

A.To show their willingness to obey.

B.To show their affection for their masters.

       C.To avoid being punished.

D.To win leadership of the dog pack.

4.When a dog has received effective obedience training, its owner ________.

A.will enjoy a better family life

B.can give the dog more freedom

C.can give the dog more rewards

D.will have more confidence in himself

Many a young person tells me he wants to be a writer. I always encourage such people, but I also explain that there's a big difference between “being a writer” and writing. In most situations these people are dreaming of wealth and fame, not the long hours alone at a computer. “You've got to want to write,” I say to them, “not want to be a writer.”

The reality is that writing is a lonely, private and poor-paying affair. For every writer kissed by fortune there are thousands more whose longing is never rewarded. When I left a 20-year career in the U.S. Coast Guard to become a freelance writer, I had no chance of being successful at all; What I did have was a friend who found me my room in a New York apartment building. It didn't even matter that it was cold and had no bathroom. I immediately bought a used type-writer and felt like a real writer.

After a year or so, however, I still hadn't gotten a break and began to doubt myself. It was so hard to sell a story that barely made enough to eat. But I knew I wanted to write. I had dreamed about it for years. I wasn't going to be one of those people who die wondering, what if? I would keep putting my dream to the test—even though it meant living with uncertainty and fear of failure. This is the Shadowland of hope, and anyone with dream must learn to live there.

1.The passage is meant to ________.

A.warn young people of the hardship that a successful writer has to experience

B.advise young people to give up their idea of becoming a professional writer

C.show young people it's unrealistic for a writer to gain wealth and fame

D.encourage young people to make efforts to be a writer

2.What can be concluded from the passage?

A.Real writers often find their work interesting and rewarding.

B.A writer's success depends on luck rather than on effort.

C.Famous writers usually live in the state of being poor and lonely.

D.The chances for a writer to become successful are small.

3.The underlined sentence “people who die wondering, what if?” refers to those ________.

A.who think too much of dark side of life

B.who regret giving up their job halfway

C.who think a lot without making a decision

D.who are full of imagination even upon death

4.“Shadowland” in the last sentence refers to ________.

A.the wonderland one often dream about

B.the bright future that one is looking forward to

C.the uncertainty before one's final goal is reached

D.a world that exists only in one's imagination

Do you find getting up in the morning so difficult that it's painful? This might be called laziness, but Dr Kim has a new explanation. He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle.

During the hours when you labor through your work, you may say that you're “hot.” That's true. The time of day when you feel most energetic is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak (高峰). For some people the peak comes during the forenoon. For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why this is so, but it leads to such familiar words as: “Get up, John! You'll be late for work again!” The possible explanation to the trouble is that John is at his temperature-and-energy peak in the evening. Much family quarreling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cycles mean, and which cycle each member of the family has.

You can't change your energy cycle, but you can learn to make your life fit it better. Habit can help. Dr Kim believes. Maybe you're sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay up late anyway. Counteract(对抗) your cycle to some extent by habitually staying up later than you want to. If your energy is low in the morning but you have an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This won't change your cycle, but you'll get up steam and work better at your low point.

Get off to a slow start which saves your energy. Get up with a leisurely yawn(哈欠) and your body stretching. Sit on the edge of the bed a minute before putting your feet on the floor. Avoid the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before. Whenever possible, do usual work in the afternoon and save tasks requiring more energy or attention for your sharper hours.

1.If a person finds getting up early a problem, most probably ________.

       A.he is a lazy person

B.he refuses to follow his own energy cycle

C.he is not sure when his energy is low

D.he is at his peak in the afternoon or evening

2.Which of the following may lead to family quarrels according to the passage?

       A.Unknowing of energy cycle.

       B.Understanding the energy cycle.

C.A change in a family member's energy cycle.

D.Attempts to control the energy cycle of other family members.

3.If one wants to work more efficiently at his low point in the morning, he should ________.

A.change his energy cycle                    B.overcome his laziness

C.get up earlier than usual                     D.go to bed earlier

4.You are advised to rise with a yawn and stretch because it will ________.

A.enable you to fix your attention on your work

B.help you to control your temper early in the day

C.keep your energy cycle under control all day

D.help to keep your energy for the day's work

5.Which of the following statements is NOT TURE?

A.getting off to work with a minimum effort helps people save their energy.

B.Dr. Kim explains why people reach their peaks at different hours of day.

C.Habit can help people adapt to their own energy cycles.

D.Children, like the adults, have energy cycles, too.
