A.The factors of the emigration stated by the Chinese emigrants.

B. What the report indicates.

C. The contributions of Chinese emigrations.

D. Chinese government shoud  take measures  to balance the wave of emigration.

E. The advantages of human migration.

F. Chinese emigration does more harm than good to the nation .

China must become more livable to retain top talent

61

China has to transform from an "economic power" to a "livable power" in order to keep its wealth, talent and confidence. The "2011 China Private Wealth Report," released recently by China Merchants Bank, shows that nearly 60 percent of the respondents(调查对象) whose investment exceed (超越)10 million yuan have plans to emigrate (移居外国)by investing. 62

Human migration is not a new phenomenon. From the Euro-Asian Silk Road to Columbus's Discovery of the New World, migrants have brought about cultural communications and economic exchanges across the world. Migration has become an important driving force for social progress.
63

Nowadays, economic globalization has considerably improved the freedom and increased the attractiveness of migration from one country to another. A certain degree of Chinese emigration can not only offer more opportunities in personal life, employment and investment but also boost (促进)the exchange and cooperation between China and other countries.
64

However, the factors of the emigration wave should also be figured out.The topic of emigration seems serious because this new wave has to some extent reflected some “unlivable” factors in China. The reasons provided by Chinese emigrants include helping their children to avoid domestic exam-oriented education, obtaining a healthy living environment and sound social security, seeking a sounder investment environment and getting rid of the "anti-rich" atmosphere arising from the inequality in wealth.
65

In order to curb(控制) the wave of emigration, China should further deepen social and economic reforms, improve its educational system to guarantee children's health and happiness, as well as strengthen the protection of private wealth through legislation(立法). Furthermore, China should also improve the social security system to increase people's happiness, crack down on corruption and promote social justice and equity so as to uphold the dignity of ordinary citizens. Only in this way can China retain its wealth, talent and confidence and curb the overheated immigration wave.

Who’s in control of your life? Who is pulling your string? For the majority of us, it’s other people—society, colleagues, friends, family or our religious community. We learned this way of operating when we were very young, of course. We were brainwashed. We discovered that feeling important and feeling accepted was a nice experience and so we learned to do everything we could to make other people like us. As Oscar Wilde puts it, “Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry(模仿), their passions a quotation.”

So when people tell us how wonderful we are, it makes us feel good. We long for this good feeling like a drug. Therefore, we are so eager for the approval of others that we live unhappy and limited lives, failing to do the things we really want to. Just as drug addicts and alcoholics live worsened lives to keep getting their fix (一剂毒品). We worsen our own existence to get our own constant fix of approval.

But, just as with any drug, there is a price to pay. The price of the approval drug is freedom—the freedom to be ourselves. The truth is that we cannot control what other people think. People have their own agenda, and they come with their own baggage and, in the end, they're more interested in themselves than in you. Furthermore, if we try to live by the opinions of others, we will build our life on sinking sand. Everyone has a different way of thinking, and people change their opinions all the time. The person who tries to please everyone will only end up getting exhausted and probably pleasing no one in the process.

So how can we take back control? I think there’s only one way—make a conscious decision to stop caring what other people think. We should guide ourselves by means of a set of values---not values imposed(强加)from the outside by others, but innate values which come from within. If we are driven by these values and not by the changing opinions and value systems of others, we will live a more authentic, effective, purposeful and happy life.

57. What Oscar Wilde says implies that _____________.

A. we have thoughts similar to those of others

B. most people have a variety of thoughts

C. most people’s thoughts are controlled by others

D. other people’s thoughts are more important

58. What does the author try to argue in the third paragraph ?

A. We may lose ourselves to please others.

B. Changing opinions may cost us our freedom.

C. We need to pay for what we want to get.

D. The price of taking drugs is freedom.

59. In order to live a happy, effective and purposeful life, we should _________.

A. care about others’ opinions and change opinions all the time

B. guide ourselves by means of values from the outside

C. persuade others to accept our opinions

D. stick to our own values

60. It can be concluded from the passage that __________.

A. we shouldn’t care what others think     B. it’s better to do what we like

C. we shouldn't change our own opinions   D. it’s important to accept others’ opinions

Many animals recognize their food because they see it. So do humans. When you see an apple or a piece of chocolate you know that these are things you can eat. You can also use other senses when you choose your food. You may like it because it smells good or because it tastes good. You may dislike some types of food because they do not look, smell or taste very nice. Different animals use different senses to find and choose their food. A few animals depend on only one of their senses, while most animals use more than one sense.

Although there are many different types of food, some animals spend their lives eating only one type. The giant panda eats only one particular type of bamboo. Other animals eat only one type of food even when given the choice. A kind of white butterfly will stay on the leaves of a cabbage, even though there are plenty of other vegetables in the garden. However, most animals have a more varied diet. The bear eats fruits and fish. The fox eats small animals, birds and fruits. The diet of these animals will be different depending on the season.

Humans have a very varied diet. We often eat food because we like it and not because it is good for us. In countries such as France and Britain, people eat foods with too much sugar. This makes them overweight, which is bad for their health. Eating too much red meat and animal products, such as butter, can also be bad for the health. Choosing the right food, therefore, has become an area of study in modern life.

53. We can infer from the text that humans and animals        .

   A. depend on one sense in choosing food     B. are not satisfied with their food

   C. choose food in similar ways             D. eat entirely different food

54. Which of the following eats only one type of food?

   A. The white butterfly.                 B. The small bird.

   C. The bear.                          D. The fox.

55. Certain animals change their choice of food when ________.

   A. the season changes                  B. the food color changes

   C. they move to different places          D. they are attracted by different smells

56. We can learn from the last paragraph that _________.

   A. food is chosen for a good reason       B. French and British food is good

   C. some people have few choices of food  D. some people care little about healthy diet

“The pen is more powerful than the sword(刀).” There have been many writers who used their pens to fight things that were wrong. Mrs Harriet Beecher Stowe was one of them.

She was born in the U.S.A. in 1811.One of her books not only made her famous but has been described as one that excited the world, and was helpful in causing a civil war and freeing the enslaved race. The civil war was the American Civil War of 1861, in which the Northern States fought the Southern States and finally won.

This book that shook the world was called Uncle Tom's Cabin. There was time when every English-speaking man, woman, and child had read this novel that did so much to stop slavery. Not many people read it today, but it is still very interesting. The book has shown us how a warm-hearted writer can arouse (唤起) people's sympathies. The author herself had neither been to the Southern States nor been a slave. The Southern Americans were very angry at the book, which they said did not at all represent true state of affairs, but the Northern Americans were wildly excited over it and were so inspired by it that they were ready to go to war to set the slaves free.

46. According to the passage______

  A. every English-speaking person had read Uncle Tom's Cabin

  D. the book Uncle Tom's Cabin did a great deal in the American Civil War

  A. She had been living in the north of America before the American Civil War broke out.

  B. She herself encouraged the Northern Americans to go to war to set the slaves free.

  C. She was better as writing as swinging (挥舞) a sword.

  D. She had once been a slave.

48. Why could Mrs Harriet Beecher Stowe's book cause a civil war in America?

  A. She wrote so well that Americans loved her very much.

  B. She disclosed the terrible wrongs that had been done to the slaves in the Southern States.

  C. The Southern Americans hated the book while the Northern Americans like it.

  D. The book had been read by many Americans.

49. What can we learn from the passage?

  A. We needn't use weapons (武器) to fight things that are wrong.

  B. A writer is more helpful in a war than a soldier.

  C. We must understand the importance of literature and art.

D. No war can be won without such a book as Uncle Tom's Cabin.
