A. Stay busy.

B. Wear what fits you.

C. You can possibly be attractive.

D. Great posture makes you attractive.

E. Helping others makes you attractive.

F. Attention to others makes you attractive.

56.

It is possible to be an attractive person when you are in a job interview or in a place where you just want to gain the respect of others. It’s not about how much money you make, and it’s not about your daddy is. What it is about is some simple things in your life. It just has a lot to do with being confident in who you are.

57.

Ask questions about others when you stay with them and listen to them patiently. Talking about yourself all the time shows that you pay no attention to others. Shifting attention from yourself to others makes you attractive. It indicates that you are humble (谦逊的). If you come across as a know-it-all (even if you really do know it all), it really pushes people feel that you care, you are humble and you can be trusted. 58.

Have you ever seen a potentially very attractive person, but he has terrible posture (姿势)?It’s all ruined, isn’t it? Or perhaps you have seen someone who may be quite ugly but he has great posture and so suddenly he is really attractive? It’s true. Your posture says a lot about you – it says whether you have confidence, or simply if you really care. Talking physically, it is one of the most important physical characteristics you need.

59.

Keeping doing things shows that you have power. You’re told to stay busy to ward off (防止,避免) depression and feelings of anxiety. But did you know you should also stay busy to be really attractive? It’s true. Always have something to do. Have you ever seen someone just sitting around, doing nothing? How unattractive! Always be busy with something, Even if for some reason you have to make something up.

60.

Wear clothes that fit you. Too tight, people are distracted. Too loose, you just look sloppy (肥大而难看的). For women, wearing tight pants or shirts is not attractive. Slightly loose things are best, or other things that just fit you and your shape well but not tight. Men and women with taste and style really don’t know why some guys think their pants sagging down are somehow attractive. It just tells people you don’t really care. You are following the crowd. Wear things that fit you nicely.

Grandfathers and 3-year-old boys are natural buddies. On this particular day in May, the grandfather was pleased to have the company of his best little pal when planting the vegetable garden. For a while, the boy seemed to like it too. His small fingers were just the right size to pick up tiny seeds and drop them into Granddad’s made holes. They were a great team.

But before long the boy became restless and directed his anger at the seeds themselves.

“What’s this one, Granddad?”

“Beets (甜菜).”

“Ugh, I hate beets.”

“Well, then, let’ s do the pumpkin instead.”

“Yuck. I really hate pumpkin.”

“Okay, buddy. What would you like to plant?”

“How about... doughnuts (油炸圈饼)?”

Just in time, the grandfather stopped himself from saying there was no such thing as a doughnut seed. Looking at the unhappy little face, he suddenly got an inspiration.

“Wait a second. I have to go inside and get the right seeds.”

Granddad returned with a handful of seeds. He and the small boy solemnly planted them in a special corner of the vegetable garden.

Weeks later, when the real seeds began to break through the soil, the boy became delighted with the tiny seedlings. He spent many afternoons helping Granddad water and hoe and watch them grow. And when the first baby vegetables were harvested, he liked them after all.

For weeks, he forgot all about the doughnuts. But then one day at lunch, he said, “Granddad, what happened to our doughnuts? How come they didn’ t grow?”

Granddad paused a moment. “Well, you know, doughnuts are tricky. Some years when you plant them, you get lots of doughnuts.” He sighed sadly. “But other years, all that comes up are the holes.”

If parents bring up a child with the aim of turning the child into a genius(天才), they will cause great damage to him. According to several leading educational psychologists, this is one of the biggest mistakes which some parents make. Generally, the child will understand very well what the parents expect, and will fail. Unrealistic parents’ expectations can cause great damage to children.

However, if parents are not unrealistic about what they expect their children to do, but are hopeful in a sensible way, the child may succeed in doing very well – especially if the parents are very supportive to their children.

Michael Li is very lucky. He is very fond of music and his parents help him a lot by taking him to concerts and arranging private piano and violin lessons for him. They even drive him 50 kilometers twice a week for violin lessons. Although Michael’s mother knows very little about music. Michael’s father plays the trumpet (小号) in a large orchestra. However, he never makes Michael enter music competitions if he is unwilling.

Michael’s friend, Wiston Chen, however, is not so lucky. Although both his parents are successful musicians, they set too high a standard for Wiston. They want their son to be as successful as they are and so they enter him for every piano competition held. They are very unhappy when he doesn’t win. “When I was at your age, I used to win every competition I entered.” Wiston’s father tells him.
