Dear Editor,
I’m a middle school student naming Lily. I’m writing to tell you something I don’t think it good. Recently I’ve noticed many of my classmates often went to the Internet bar near our school. The other day I went there, too. I was very surprising to see many students playing games, seeing films and chatting. Some were even talking about love affairs on-line. In my opinion, an Internet bar should be a place which we can find much useful information. As is known to all that the Internet is a window to an outside world rather than a place for games. The Internet is good if we make good use it. Otherwise, it will do us great harm. So the local government should take measure to make sure that the students use Internet bars positively.

Education is not an end, but a means. In other words ,we do not educate children only for the purpose of educating them .Our purpose is to fit them for life.
In some modern countries it has for some time been fashionable(时兴的)to think that by free education for all--whether rich or poor , clever or stupid --one can solve all the problems of society and build a perfect nation. But we can already see that free education for all is not enough; we find in such countries a far larger number of people with university degrees ,they refuse to do what they think "low "work and , in fact ,work with hands is thought to be dirty and shameful in such countries .But we have only to think a moment to understand that the work of a completely uneducated , farmer is far more important than that of a professor, we can live without education, but we die if we have no food. If no one cleaned our streets and took the rubbish away from our houses , we should get terrible diseases in our towns...
In fact, when we say that all of us must be educated to fit us for life , it means that we must be educated in such a way that , firstly each of us can do whatever work suited to his brains and ability and secondly that we can realize that all jobs are necessary to society , and that is very bad to be ashamed of one's work . Only such a type of education can be considered valuable to society.
68. The writer of this passage thinks that
A. education can settle all of the world's problems
B. free education for all probably leads to a perfect world
C. free education won't always help to solve social problems
D. all the social problems can be solved by education
69. According to the passage , .
A. work with hands is dirty and shameful
B. work with hand is low work

D. we can't regard work with hands as low work
70. The purpose of education is
A. to choose a system of education
B. to prepare children mainly for their future work
C. to let everyone receive education fit for him
D. to build a perfect world

Have you ever suddenly felt that someone you know was in trouble——and he was? Have you ever dreamed something that came true later? Maybe you have ESP(超感官知觉).
ESP stands for Extra Sensory Perception. It may be called a sixth sense. It seems to let people know about events(事件)before they happen, or events that are happening some distance(距离)away.
Here is an example: A woman was doing washing. Suddenly she shouted, “My father is dead! I saw him sitting in the chair!” Just then, a telephone came. The woman’s father had died of a heart illness. He died sitting in a chair.
There are thousands of stories like this on record. Scientists are studying them to find out what is behind these strange mental(心理的)messages. Here’s another example——one of hundreds of dreams that have come true.
A man dreamed he was walking along a road when a horse and carriage came by. The driver said, “There’s room for one more.” The man felt the driver was Death, so he ran away. The next day the man was getting on a crowded bus. The bus driver said, “There’s room for one more”. Then the man saw the driver’s face was the same face he had seen in the dream. He wouldn’t get on the bus. As the bus drove off, it crashed and burst into fires. Everyone was killed!
Some people say stories like these are lies or coincidences. Others say that are ESP in true. From studies of ESP, we may some day learn more about the human mind.
64. ESP lets people know about _________.
A.their dreams B.events after they happen
C.events before they happen D.heart illness
65. In his passage the word “coincidences” means ________.
A.things which do not happen B.things which happen by accident

66. The example of the man shows the ability to _______.
A.avoid traffic accidents
B.know the good and bad of a person
C.know about the events happening some distance away
D.sense a danger that will happen later on
67. The best title of this passage is _________.

In 1955, a man named Raymond Kroe entered a partnership with two brothers named McDonald. They opened a popular restaurant in California which sold food that was easy to prepare and serve quickly. Hamburgers French fries, and cold drinks were the main food there. Kroc opened similar eating places under the same name, “McDonald’s”, and they were an instant success. He later took over the company, and today it is one of the most famous and successful “fast-food” in America and round the world.
Why was his idea so successful? Probably the most important reason was that his timing was right. In the 1950s, most married women stayed home to keep house and take care of their children. In the 1960s, many women returned to the workplace. This meant that they had less time or energy to prepare meals, so they spent more on “TV dinners” and fast-food restaurants. Single parents also have little time to spend in the kitchen. People living alone also depend on this type of food, since cooking for one is often more trouble than it is worth.
Fast-food is not part of the diet of all Americans. Another trend of the 1960s, sometimes called the back-to-nature movement influenced many people to avoid food that was packaged or processed(处理). This preference for natural food continues to this day.
Form the success of Raymond Kroc’s fast-food business, we can say that social economic(经济)trends influence where and what we eat.
60. “Cooking for one is often more trouble than it is worth” means that ________.
A.cooking for some people is worth more money
B.it is not worthwhile to take too much time to cook for one person
C.there are more problems when one person cooks
D.divorce(离婚)causes people to change their eating habits
61. An idea implied(暗示) but not directly stated in the reading is that ________.
A.many married women began to work in the 1960s
B.natural foods are still popular today
C.fast-food is not part of the diet of all Americans
D.divorce(离婚)causes people to change their eating habits
62. McDonald’s success was mainly because ________.
A.people living alone depend on fast-food
B.single parents have little time to spend in the kitchen
C.many women returned to the workplace in the 1960s
D.his timing was right
63. The main idea of the reading is that ________.
A.Raymond Kroc is the most successful fast-food business owner in the world
B.social and economic changes affect eating habits
C.fast-food is easy to prepare and serve quickly
D.Americans eat either fast-food or natural food

For years scientists have been worried about the effects of air pollution on the earth’s natural conditions. Some believe the air inside many houses may be more dangerous than the air outside. It may be one hundred times worse.
Indoor air pollution can cause a person to feel tired, to suffer eye pain, headache and other problems. Some pollutants(污染物)can cause breathing disorders, diseases of blood and even cancer. Most scientists agree that every modern house has some kind of indoor pollution.
People have paid more attention to the problem now. It is true that when builders began making houses and offices they did not waste energy. To do this they build buildings that limited the flow of air between inside and outside. They also began using man-made building materials. These materials are now known to let out harmful gases.
As the problem became more serious, scientists began searching for a way to deal with it. They discovered a natural pollution control system for building—green plants. Scientists do not really know how plants control air pollution. They believe that a plant’s leaves absorb(吸收)or take in the pollutants. In exchange the plant lets out oxygen through its leaves and tiny organizations on its roots. Scientists suggest that all buildings should have one large plant or several small plants inside for every nine square meters of space. Studies of different plants show that each absorbs different chemicals. So the most effective way to clean the air is to use different kinds of plants. Having green plants inside your house can make it a prettier and more healthy place.
56. Generally speaking, indoor air pollution may be more harmful than the air outside because ______.
A.indoor air pollution can often make people seriously ill
B.man-made building materials give off dangerous gases
C.there may be more harmful gases outside the buildings
D.the air indoors is polluted, which is very harmful
57. Some kind of indoor pollution can be found in _______.
A.every modern house B.every old house
C.all kinds of houses D.all kinds of offices
58. The indoor air pollution is caused by ______.
A.the limit of the flow of air between inside and outside
B.the building way that the builders want to save energy
C.the building things that are made of man-made materials
D.the man-made building materials and the limit of air-flow
59. The reason why we should use different kinds of plants to clean the air is that ______.
A.plants can let out all kinds of pollutants indoors
B.plants may take in more oxygen (氧气)which people need
C.plants can absorb all kinds of harmful indoor chemicals
D.plants can make our houses prettier.
