Are you truly happy? Do you ever know what it means to be happy and what it takes to achieve happiness?       71      The following are a few tips that I follow to create happiness in my life.

*Make a plan for achieving goals that you believe will make you happy. Your moods will very likely increase if you are going after something you value.

* Surround yourself with happy people. It is easy to begin to think negatively(消极地) when you are surrounded by people who think that way.      72

* When something goes wrong, try to figure out a solution instead of being lost in self pity. Truly happy people don’t allow setbacks(挫折) to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the situations back to their favor.

*     73      These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and will lead you to continuous happiness.

*     74      Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long, relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your appearance, you will be subconsciously (下意识地) putting yourself in a better mood.

* Finding the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. Find a way to make light of a situation that would otherwise make you happy.

*Keeping healthy is another way to achieve happiness.      75

A.What makes one person happy may be very different from what makes someone else happy.

B.On the contrary, if you are around people who are happy, their emotional state will be infectious(有感染力的).

C.Being overweight or not eating nutritious(有营养的) foods can have a negative effect on your mood.

D.These are important questions for anyone who is seeking happiness to ask themselves.

E.Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the things that make you happy.

F.There are some tips in life that lead to happiness.

G.It’s also important to take some time each day to do something nice for yourself.

When a rather dirty, poorly dressed person kneels at your feet and puts out his hands to beg for a few coins, do you hurry on, not knowing what to do, or do you feel sad and hurriedly hand over some money? What should our attitude to beggars be? There can be no question that the world is full of terribly sad stories. It must be terrible to have no idea where our next meal is going to come from, so it seems cruel not to give some money to beggars.

Certainly, most of the world’s great religions(宗教) order us to be open-hearted and share what we have with those less fortunate than ourselves. But has the world changed? Maybe what was morally(道德方面地) right in the old days, when one knew exactly who in the village had suffered misfortune(不幸) and needed help, is no longer practiced by all the people. Quite a few people will not give to beggars. Let us look at their arguments.

Firstly, some believe that many city beggars dress up on purpose to look pitiable and actually make a good living from begging. Giving to beggars only encourages this sort of evil (恶行).

Secondly, there is a worry that the money you give will be spent on beer, wine or drugs.

Thirdly, there is an opinion that there is no real excuse for begging. One might be poor, but that is not the reason for losing one’s sense of pride and self-dependence.

Related to this is the opinion that the problem should be dealt with by the government rather than by ordinary people. Some people think beggars should go to the local government department and receive help.

It is hard to come to any final conclusion, because there are various cases and we must deal with them differently. A few coins can save a life in some situations, and even if the money is wasted, that does not take away the moral goodness of the giver.

67. What is mainly discussed in the passage?

A. Moral deeds of most people.                    B. Religious activities in the society.

C. Moral goodness of the giver.                    D. Arguments on giving to beggars.

68. What can we infer from the sentence “But has the world changed?” in the second paragraph?

A. People no longer know who suffers misfortune in the village.

B. There are some people not willing to do what was morally right before.

C. We don’t meet with those who need others’ help any more.

D. Now it is the government that has the duty to help the beggars.

69. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?

A. Some people dress up to pretend to be beggars.

B. Some beggars want money for their schooling.

C. Some beggars use the money to buy drugs.

D. Some beggars have no excuse for begging.

70. In the last paragraph, the writer thinks it hard to reach any final conclusion, because       .

A. the cases can be so different                    B. there are so many beggars

C. there is so much money wasted                D. there are so many different arguments

Have you ever suddenly felt that someone you knew was in trouble—and was he? Have you ever dreamed of something that came true later? Maybe you have ESP (超感觉知觉).

ESP stands for Extrasensory Perception. It may be called a sixth sense. It seems to let people know about events before they happen, or events that are happening some distance away.

Here’s an example. A woman was ironing clothes. Suddenly she screamed, “My father is dead! I saw him sitting in the chair!” Just then, a telegram came. The woman’s father died of a heart attack. He died sitting in a chair.

There are thousands of stories like this one on record. Scientists are studying them to find out what’s behind these strange mental messages. Here’s another example—one of hundreds of dreams that have come true.

A man dreamed he was walking along a road when a horse and carriage came by. The driver said, “There’s room for one more.” The man felt the driver seemed dead, so he ran away. The next day, when the man was getting on a crowded bus, the bus driver said, “There’s room for one more.”

Then the man saw that the driver’s face was the same face he had seen in the dream. He wouldn’t get on the bus. As the bus drove off, it crashed and burst into flames. Everyone was killed!

Some people say stories like these are coincidences. Others, including some scientists, say that ESP is real. From studies of ESP, we may some day learn more about the human mind.

59.According to the passage, the author believes that the sixth sense is .

    A.in existence B.imaginative C.not real D.impossible

60.ESP lets people know ________.

    A.about events before they happen

B.about events after they happen

C.about events that are happening some distance away

D.A and C

61.By studying ESP, scientists may get to .

A.learn how people tell lies B.know more about human dreams

C.know more about human mind D.learn how strange things happen

62.In the last paragraph the underlined word “coincidences” probably means .

A.things that may not happen B.things that happen in a dream

C.things that must happen D.things that happen by accident

63.This article is mainly about .

A.the human dream B.the sixth sense
