Do you find it difficult to learn a foreign language successfully? Here are some tips to help you out:
1. Spend the time!
By far the most important factor is how much time you are immersed (沉浸) in the language. The more time you spend with the language, the faster you will learn. This means listening, reading, writing, speaking and studying words and phrases. This does not mean sitting in class looking out the window, nor listening to other students who do not speak well, nor getting explanations in your own language about how the language works. This means spending time enjoyably connected to the language you are learning!
2. Listen and read every day!
Listen no matter where you are on your MP3 player. Read what you are listening to. Listen to and read things that you like, things that you can mostly understand, or even partly understand. If you keep listening and reading, you will get used to the language. One hour of listening or reading is more effective than many hours of class time.
3. Focus on words and phrases!
Build up your vocabulary—you will need lots. Starts to notice words and how they come together as phrases. Learn these words and phrases through your listening and reading. Read online, using online dictionaries, and make your own vocabulary lists for review. Soon you will run into your new words and phrases elsewhere. Gradually you will be able to use them. Do not worry about how correctly you speak until you have accumulated(积累) plenty of words through listening and reading.
4. Take responsibility for your own learning!
If you do not want to learn the language, you won’t. If you do want to learn the language, take control. Choose content that you want to listen to and read. Seek out the words and phrases that you need to understand your listening and reading. Do not wait for someone else to show you the language, nor to tell you what to do. Discover the language by yourself, like a child growing up. Talk when you feel like it. Write when you feel like it. A teacher cannot teach you to become fluent, but you can learn to become fluent if you want to.
5. Relax and enjoy yourself!
Do not worry about what you can’t remember, or can’t yet understand, or can’t yet say. It does not matter. You are learning and improving. The language will gradually become clearer in your brain. So sit back and enjoy. Just make sure you spend enough time with the language.

Below is a housing guide for students going to London.
University accommodation (住所)offices
Many university accommodation offices have their own list of registered landlords. Others also provide information on accommodation agencies and other housing organizations. The advantage of using your university accommodation have enough registered landlords to house all their students.
Property papers: Loot and Renting
Loot is an important source of information about private housing for co-renters. The offers are from private landlords, agencies and individuals looking for other co-renters. They also have a website: www.loot.com. The advantage of using Loot is that there are some excellent bargains. The disadvantage is that there is no quality control over the offers.
Renting is another useful paper. The offers in this paper are mainly from accommodation agencies. Their website is at www. renting.co.uk.
Accommodation agencies
The majority of rented accommodation in London is probably advertised through accommodation agencies. The advantage of using accommodation agencies is that: you will have access to a large number of accommodations. A good agent will listen to your requirements and can save you time in looking for the right accommodation. The disadvantage is that they will make a range of charges to potential renters.
Notice boards
Around the universities you will find a number of notice boards where offers of accommodation will be posted. These will either be from landlords or from students. Some universities will also have online notice boards where students can advertise to other students. Advertisements from students can be an excellent way to find accommodation. However, advertisements from landlords can be problematic.
Word of mouth
Some of the best housing in London is never advertised but is passed on from one group of students to another by word of mouth. It might be that you can find out about good offers from final year students. However, don’t suppose that just because you have found out about housing from a friend, it is necessarily going to be better than that found through any other source.
Family
Faced with the very high rents charged in London, some students and their parents will consider buying as an alternative. In some cases this might be a good choice.
67. What is the advantage of using Loot?
A. Their website is designed mainly for students.

It might sound ridiculous(荒唐的) that goal setting could actually hold you back from completing tasks and dreams you may have. While it is true that goals can help you sometimes, in some cases they just lead to frustration(挫折) and they actually bring you down.
Let's look at this a little closer with an example. Many people jump online and are looking to start a business online as a way to make money from home and let's say they set a goal to make $10,000 in their first month. They do this because they see tons of people making large sums of money in very little time so they think $10,000 a month shouldn't be too hard. But what happens when you only bring in $1,000 in your first 30 days online? If this is pure profit(利润) you might still be happy, but this is nowhere near reaching the goal you originally set out to meet. So naturally you would feel like you failed to reach your goal and you may be a little disappointed in yourself.
If you continue not to reach this goal month in month, it starts to add up and really weighs on you. I'm not saying that you shouldn't set goals, but you need to realize that you should not be emotionally attached to your goals.
An alternative approach would be to set certain goals when you want to accomplish things and start out small. Build your confidence by accomplishing smaller feats and if you overproduce then it will be a nice surprise. It makes it a lot easier for you to handle by just knowing every day you have to complete a few small tasks and over time the snowball will roll into great things.
63. The purpose of the passage is to _________.
A. show that it’s necessary to set goals.
B. prove the disadvantages of setting goals.
C. suggest a way of setting goals to reach success
D. introduce how to reach success by setting high goals.
64. In Paragraph 2, the writer used the example to ________.
A. persuade readers not to focus on making money only.
B. prove that goals often result in frustration.
C. show goal setting sometimes stops you realizing your dreams.
D. advise readers not to set goals to avoid frustration.
65. According to the passage, always sticking to our goals is ________.
A. important B. unnecessary C. ridiculous D. natural
66. What information will probably be proved following the last paragraph?
A. Benefits of setting small goals. B. Side effects of goal setting.
C. Success achieved without goal setting.
D. One more useful suggestion for goal setting

Sam Trafton was my violin teacher and what he said during one of my lessons often came back to me years later.
One day he asked me how much practicing I was doing, I said three or four hours a day.
“Do you practice in long stretches, an hour at a time?”
“I try to.”
“Well, don’t.” he shouted. When you grow up, time won’t come in long stretches. Practice in minutes, whenever you can find them, five or ten before school, after lunch, between household tasks. Spread the practice through the day, and the violin playing will become a part of your life.”
When I was teaching at Boston, I wanted to write a novel, but class periods, theme-reading, and committee meetings filled my days and evenings. For two years I got practically nothing down on paper, and my excuse was that I had no time. Then I remembered what Sam had said. During the next week I conducted an experiment. Whenever I had five minutes unoccupied, I sat down and wrote a hundred words or so. To my surprise, at the end of the week I had finished a chapter. Later on I continued my novels by the same piecemeal period. Though my teaching schedule had become heavier than ever, every day there were unoccupied moments that could be caught and put to use. I even took up violin-playing again, finding that the short moments of the day provided sufficient time for both writing and violin practice.
There is an important trick in this time-using formula(方案): you must get into your work quickly. If you have but five minutes for writing, you can’t afford to waste for chewing your pencil. You must make your mental preparations beforehand, and concentrate on your task almost instantly when the time comes. Fortunately, rapid concentration is easier than most of us realize.
I admit I have never learnt how to let it go easily at the end of the five or ten minutes. But life can be counted on to supply interruptions. Sam Traffton has had a great influence on my life. To him I owe discovery that even very short periods of time add up to all useful hours I need, if I plunge in without delay.
56. The underlined part “counted on” can be probably replaced by .
A. expected B. valued C. concentrated on D. enriched
57. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. Sam owes great thanks to the writer for teaching him how to use time.
B. Sam has had a great influence on the writer’s life since he became a student of the violinist.
C. Rapid concentration is actually more difficult than most people imagine.
D. The writer didn’t take the teacher’s words to heart at first.
58. We can infer the writer .
A. has new books published each year however busy his teaching is
B. is always able to find enough time for mental preparations beforehand, so he is devoted to work instantly
C. has formed a bad habit of chewing a pencil while writing his novels
D. is always tired of interruptions in life because his teaching schedule is always heavy
59. What is the best title for this passage?
A. A Little Time at a Time B. How I Became a Writer
C. Concentrate on Your Work D. A Good Teacher
