I walked into a wild third-grade classroom. Music was playing _36_, children were under tables applying make-up, kids were throwing a football indoors, and students were _37_ wherever they could find _38_. I was a mid-year _39_. The previous _40_ said he could no longer manage these children and _41_  without notice during the holiday break.
As soon as I walked in the room, I realized why he _42_. I sat down _43_  in my chair and began reading their _44_ softly. After each name, I _45_, asking God to help me understand that child. I then nailed a _46_ to the wall next to the chalkboard and began _47_ my name and a reading assignment on the board. I then asked each child to come to me, and tell me their names and what they wanted to learn. It was a _48_ task, because only two children there wanted to learn something! Rules were _49_, boundaries established, parents contacted. But the mirror saved the day -- no, the year! Unbeknownst(不知的) to the children, the mirror allowed me to see their every _50_ while I was writing on the board. When one student finally asked me, I told him I had a special teacher’s eye in the back of my head that my hair _52_. Always Changing

Mark is leaving, and I’m feeling kind of sad.
You probably don’t know Mark, but you might be lucky enough  36 someone just like him. He’s been the heart and soul of the office for a couple of years combining  37 professional skills with a sweet and gentle nature.
And now he’s moving on to an exciting new professional  38 . It sounds like it could be the chance of a lifetime, and we’re  39 for him. But that doesn’t make it any easier to say goodbye to him.
Life has a way of throwing these curve(曲线)balls  40 us. Just when we start to get comfortable with a person, a place or a situation, something comes along to   41 the recipe.
Our ability to cope with change  42 to a great degree, our peace, happiness and contentment in life.
But how do we do that? A friend of mine is fond of reminding us that“survivability depends upon  43 .”And then there’s Chris the California surf-rat, who once told me that the answer to life’s problems can be  44 in four words:“Go with the flow.”
I’m not exactly sure , but I think Chris was saying that life is a series of   45 —both good and bad . No matter how excellent your skill , there will always be life-influencing factors over which you have no  46 . The truly successful person expects the unexpected, and is prepared to    47 adjustments should the need arise-as it almost  48 does.
That doesn't mean you don't keep trying to make all your  49 come true．It just means that when things come up that aren't  50 in your plan，you work around them—and then you move on。
“Change，indeed，is painful，  51 ever needful，”said philosopher Thomas Carlyle．“And if memory has its force and worth，so also has  52 .”
we're going to miss Mark. But rather than stay on the  53 of our parting，we'll focus on our hopes for a brighter future－for him，and for us．And then we'll go out and   54  
everything we can to make that future happen．  55 our plans change--again.

Butterfly’s wings
One day a small opening appeared on a cocoon（茧）, a man sat and watched for the butterfly for several hours as it was struggling to __36__ its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten __37__ it could and it could go no further. So the man decided to __38__ the butterfly: he took a pair of scissors and __39__ the remaining part of the cocoon. The butterfly then __40__ easily.
But it has a swollen（肿胀的）body and __41__ wings. The man continued to __42__ the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the __43__ would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would __44__ the time span(跨度). Neither happened! __45__, the butterfly spent the rest of its life  __46__ around with a swollen body and small, shriveled（褶皱的）wings. It __47__ was able to fly. What the man did in his __48__ and haste（匆忙）did no good to the butterfly. He didn’t know the __49__ cocoon and the struggle __50__ for the butterfly to get through the tiny __51__ were the natural way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings __52__ it would be ready for flight once it achieved its __53__ from the cocoon.
Sometimes the __54__ is exactly what we need in our life. If we are allowed to go through our life without any __55__, it would not be a good thing to us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been.

I often read of incidents of misunderstanding or conflict. I ’m left 36 . Why do these people create mistrust and problems, especially with those from other 37 ？
I was growing up in Kuala Lumpur in the early 1960s, 38  children from different races and religions played and studied 39  in harmony. At that time my family lived a stone s 40 from Ismail’s. And no one was bothered that Ismail was a Malay Muslim and Iwas an Indian Hindu——we just  41 our differences. Perhaps, our elders had not filled our heads with unnecessary advice，well 42  or otherwise.
We were nine when we became friends. During the school holidays, we'd   43  the countryside on our bicycles, hoping to   44 the unexpected. At times Ismail would accompany my family as we made a rare shopping trip to town. We would be glad of his 45 .
When I was twelve, my family moved to Johor. Ismail s family later returned to their village, and I   46   touch with him.
One spring afternoon in 1983, I stopped a taxi in Kuala Lumpur. I   47  my destination. The driver acknowledged my    48 but did not move off. Instead, he looked 49  at me. “Raddar?" he said, using my childhood nickname(绰号). I was astonished at being so 50 addressed (称呼). Unexpectedly! It was Ismail! Even after two 51 we still recognized each other. Grasping his shoulder, I felt a true affection, something 52  to describe.
If we can allow our children to be  53  without prejudice, they'll build friendships with people, regardless of race or religion, who will be 54  their side through' thick and thin. On such friendships are societies built and 55 we can truly be, as William Shakespeare once wrote, 44we happy few, we band of brothers".

I was reading a notice at the entrance to my college dormitory, when a girl came up to me and said, “Do you _26_ a quarter? I’m one short of putting my laundry(刚洗好的衣物) in the dryer(烘干机). ”
I _27_ to think about it for a few seconds and considered whether I’d be _28_ to give a quarter away. I found myself _29_ her, thinking about why she didn’t _30_ four quarters down from her room with her, as if she had _31_ to be one short so she could ask someone else for it. (Later I knew _32_ that was not the case.)
But I didn’t have any reason to _33_her. Then I responded, “Yeah, I think I have the only one,” though fully _34_ that I had three. “Here you go,” I said with a smile. “Thanks,” she responded, _35_ that she could have clean clothes to wear the next morning.
A few moments later the girl _36_ and gave a dollar bill to me. “Why are you giving this to me?” I asked, _37_. “Oh, because you were kind to me, so I’m just giving back the _38_.”
It’s just a dollar, but I felt it was _39_. More so because I hadn’t given that quarter with such nice _40_, the way she gave that dollar to me. I felt like it was the first time I ever _41_ something greater in return for something so_42_ that I had given. I saw the power of kindness and generosity in a _43_way.
I thought it was so worth giving that quarter away. Giving and _44_ don’t usually happen hand-in-hand, _45_ when it does, like it did this time, it makes one think about why generosity is so powerful in the first place.

Many years ago I drove a taxi for extra money mainly from the downtown to the 36 , beside the Greenwood Racetrack..
Each time a taxi drove up to the station, many kids would run along the   37  . One   38   kid would open the passenger door and say, “  39  , sir.” The passenger would always say thanks and give the kid a   40  . It was a routine that everybody knew.
One day I noticed a boy, who was   41   than most of them but was pushed away by even the smallest kid. He never pushed back.   42  , he would even step aside when others pushed forward. But he never   43  .
Then as I was   44   to the sidewalk, all the other kids were running after a taxi   45  mine. They didn’t notice mine.
The boy saw me and walked toward my taxi. As I pulled up I made sure that I stopped in a 46  with the passenger door right beside him. He   47  the passenger door and said, “Good luck at the track, sir.”
  48 , the man did not tip him a quarter. Instead he   49 , “Get out of my way!” He pushed him aside so   50  that the boy fell down and was badly hurt. I got out of my car quickly,   51  find that the man disappeared in the crowd.
So I looked for the kid. I decided to give him $20 for all his   52 . But he was far up ahead, walking out of the station   53 .   54 , I never saw him again. I’d like to find him and tell him that if only he had stuck around a little longer I would have given him a whole $20.
I learned an important lesson from the boy. When things seem so   55  that you are ready to give up, that is the time when things are most likely to turn around for you.

The sun shines brightly as I leave school, get into my car, and head for Bradley Hospital. This year, as a senior at Seekonk High School, I have been given the opportunity to leave the usual classroom setting once a week to volunteer.
I   21  to spend this valuable time working with mentally disabled children at Bradley Children’s Hospital. I work   22  a teacher in the outpatient/pre-school section, in a classroom with two children— a classroom very different from   23  I have ever known. The difference of this classroom is   24  the children have been diagnosed with a mental disease. One child is autistic and non-verbal（自闭和不说话的）, using supportive   25 . The other has a condition called PDD (one step above autism), and is   26  non-verbal. Both children require strong   27  and a lot of attention. This combination creates an atmosphere which is both demanding and sympathetic.
My   28  in the classroom is not only to help the teacher, but to become part of the children’s   29  experience. I work one-on-one completing academics with a student.   30 , we work as a group on such activities as cooking, artwork, abstract reasoning. Everyday activities, which may be taken for granted by others,   31  a lot of strength from the children. This has opened my eyes vastly.
One of the   32  reasons why I volunteer to take the work is that I desire to help those who are less   33 . However, it has also helped me to realize my competence. I now know that I have the   34  to work with the disabled. I have lost my fear, and I   35  myself a lot more.
It is true that my work is very   36 ; there are many days that I   37  Bradley exhausted emotionally and physically. There have been times when I have left on the edge of tears   38 . But pity doesn’t heal, love does. And I have grown to love these children in my own way,   39  I see them only once a week. This experience has been both rewarding and satisfying. I’ve learned also that I do have the ability to make a difference in their lives, no matter how small it may be. One smile makes it all   40 .

“Mama, when I grow up, I’m going to be one of those!” I said this after seeing the Capital Dancing Company perform when I was three. It was the first time that my __36__ took on a vivid form and acted as something important to start my training. As I grew older and was __37__ to more, my interests in the world of dance __38__ varied but that little girl’s dream of someday becoming a __39__ in the company never left me. In the summer of 2005 when I was 18, I received the phone call which made that dream a __40__; I became a member of the company __41__ back to 1925.
As I look back on that day now, it surely __42__ any sense of reality. I believe I stayed in a state of pleasant disbelief __43__ I was halfway through rehearsals (排练) on my first day. Though I was absolutely thrilled with the chance, it did not come without its fair share of __46__. Through the strict rehearsal period of dancing six days a week, I found it vital to __47__ up the material fast with every last bit of concentration. To then follow those high-energy rehearsals __50__ a busy show schedule of up to five performances a day, I discovered a new __51__ of the words “hard work.” What I thought were my physical __52__ were pushed much further than I thought __53__. I learned to make each performance better than the last.
Today, when I look at the unbelievable company that I have the great __54__ of being a part of, not only as a member, but as a dance captain, I see a __55__ that has inspired not only generations of little girls but a splendid company that continues to develop and grow-and inspires people every day to follow their dreams.

That holiday morning I didn’t have to attend school. Usually, on holidays, Mother   36  me to sleep in. And I would certainly take full advantage of it. On this particular morning,  ___37___,I felt like getting up early.
I stood by my window overlooking the ___38___, having nothing better to do. But as it turned out, I was soon to learn about something ___39___ in life.
As I watched several people go by, get into their cars and drive off, I ___40___ an old man on a bicycle with a bucket on its ___41___ and a basket rags and bottles on its back-carriage. He ___42___ from one car to another, washing and cleaning them. From the water on the ground, it seemed that he had already ___43___ washing and cleaning about a dozen or more cars. He must have begun to work quite early in the morning.
Several thoughts ___44___my mind as I watched him work. He wasn’t well-dressed. He had on a pair of shorts and a(n) ___45___ T-shirt. The bicycle he rode was not by any means the kind modern ___46___would want to be seen riding on. But he seemed___47___ with life. There he was, working hard at his small business, ___48___ at passers-by and stopping to chat now and then ___49___ elderly men and women on their way to the market nearby.
There was a noticeable touch of___50___ in the way he seemed to be doing things— ___51___the windscreen (挡风玻璃), then standing back to admire it; scrubbing (擦净) the wheels and ___52___, standing back to see what they look like after the scrub.
It was a ___53___ to learn, I felt. At no age need one have to beg for a ___54___if one has good health and is willing to work hard. For a while I felt ___55__ of myself. Young as I am—just sixteen, and there was this old man who must have been usefully engaged perhaps before the sun appeared above the horizon.

Whenever we hear about “the homeless”, most of us think of the Developing world. But the  36  is that homelessness is everywhere. For example, how many of us would expect to see people living on the streets of a  37  country like Germany?
Kurt Muller and his wife Rita have spent eleven years making   38 for the homeless of Berlin, Germany’s capital. They first   39  one long hot summer when most Germans were   40  on holiday. Kurt and his wife stayed at home, made sandwiches,   41  a table in the street and gave food to the homeless.
The Mullers soon realized that food and clothing weren’t  42   . “What these people also need is warmth and  43  ,” says Rita. The Mullers didn’t   44  to give their phone number to the street people and told them to phone anytime. Rita  45   there was somebody at home to answer the phone and their home was always  46  to anyone who couldn’t face another night on the street.
The couple were soon  47   all their time and money, so Kurt visited food and clothing companies to   48  donations. Today, over thirty companies  49 donate food and other goods to the cause and volunteers help  to  50  them to the homeless. The public also give clothes and money and a shoe producer   51  new shoes.
Kurt and Rita receive no   52  for their hard work. “ We feel like parents,” says Rita, “and parents shouldn’t  53   money for helping their children. The love we get on the streets is our salary.” Though Rita admits she often gets   54  . She says she will continue with her work because she likes the feeling of having made a   55  in the world.
