How To Quit (Give Up) SmokingWhen thinking about quitting…
List all the reasons why you want to quit. Every night before going to bed, repeat one of the reasons 10 times.
Decide positively that you want to quit. Try to avoid negative (消极的) thoughts about how difficult it might be. Develop strong personal reasons in addition to your health and obligations (责任) to others. For example, think of all the time you waste taking cigarette breaks, rushing out to buy a pack, hunting a light, etc. Set a date for quitting—perhaps a special day like your birthday, a holiday. If you smoke heavily at work, quit during your vacation. Make the date sacred seriously, and don't let anything change it. Begin to condition yourself physically, start a modest(适度的)exercise; drink more water, get plenty of rest.
Immediately after quitting…
The first few days after you quit, spend as much free time as possible in places where smoking is prohibited (forbidden), e.g. libraries, museums, theatres, department stores, etc.
Drink large quantities of water and fruit juice. Try to avoid wine, coffee, and other drinks which remind you of cigarette smoking.
Strike up a conversation with someone instead of a match for a cigarette.

If you miss having something in your mouth, try toothpicks or a fake(仿制的) cigarette.

A person, like a commodity(商品), needs packaging. But going too far is absolutely undesirable. A little exaggeration (夸张), however, does no harm when it shows the person's unique qualities to their advantages. To show personal attractiveness in a casual and natural way, it is important for one to have a clear knowledge of oneself. A skilled packager knows how to add art to nature without any signs of embellishment(装饰), so that the person so packaged is not a commodity but a human being, lively and lovely.
A young person, especially a female, shining with beauty and full of life, has all the favor granted by God. Any attempt to make up would be self-defeating. Youth, however, comes and goes in a flash. Packaging for the middle-aged is primarily to hide the marks made by years. If you still enjoy life enough to keep self-confidence and work at pioneering work, you are unique in your natural qualities, and your attractiveness and grace will remain. Elderly people are beautiful if their river of life has been, through plains, mountains and jungles, running its course as it should. You have really lived your life, which now arrives at a self-satisfied stage of quietness and calmness with no interest in fame and wealth. There is no need to make use of hair dyeing. The snowcapped mountain is itself a beautiful scene of fairyland. Let your looks change from young to old in step with the natural ageing process so as to keep in harmony(和谐)with nature, for harmony itself is beauty, while the other way round will end in unpleasantness. To be in the elder's company is like reading a thick book of deluxe (better quality) edition that attracts one so much as to be willing to part with.
As long as one finds where one stands, one knows how to package himself, just as a commodity sets up its brand by the right packaging.

[ ]
A.people should be packed at all ages
B.people should be packed in a special way
C.elderly people were also care about packing
D.proper packing makes people attracting

[ ]
A.dye your hair
B.make up at a young age
C.follow the ageing process
D.give up fame and wealth

A.hardly exists
B.is the strongest
C.comes from the inside
D.comes from the appearance

To tell you the truth, I'm not interested in owning a cellular(网络) phone except for use in an emergency (紧急情况), for ordinary cellular phone service is very expensive. How would I get help if I were in trouble or in danger? A good friend told about a product she thought would settle my problem. It's the SOS phone—a cellular phone service designed for emergency use.
With the touch of a button(键), the SOS phone will connect me to a roadside emergency service, a 911 service or a trained SOS operator, 24 hours a day. If I ever need help, I know it's just a phone call away.

If I just want to call home to tell my husband and children something necessary, I can. By pressing the“Call”button, I'll reach an operator. When I ask the operator to call home, I'll be connected automatically(自动地). And because the Call Center has my 10 most-used phone number, I don't even have to recite the number.

It was late afternoon. Farmer Lum was walking home from his fields. His feet sank deep in the thick dust. A dry, hot wind blew dust across the brown fields. The raining season was late this year. Everything needed rain. Even the water in the village well was getting low.
Every morning Farmer Lum stepped from his house and looked at the sky. But there were no clouds. And every night before he went to bed, he looked at the sky. Even a small cloud might bring rain by morning. But no rain fell.
Early one morning several days later Farmer Lum was woken up by a heavy rain. He got up quickly, went to the door, and stepped outside. He held out his hands to catch the cool drops of rain. He breathed deeply. How good the rain smelled!
After a few days of rain, the ground was soft enough to be ploughed. Every morning Farmer Lum got up early to drive his ox to the fields. Soon the seed-bed in the corner of the field was ready for planting. He took the grains of rice from the bag carefully because he did not want to lose a single one. Then he planted them in the soft, wet soil.
While Farmer Lum planted the rice, his wife planted vegetable seeds in the garden by the house.
After a few days Farmer Lum and his wife began to pull the young seedlings(幼苗) from the wet soil and took them to the field to plant. Several months later the rice was ready for harvesting. Again Farmer Lum and his wife went to the field. This time they cut the long yellow stalks(梗), then put them in the sun to dry. Later Farmer Lum dove the ox back and forth over the stalks to loosen(使松开) the grain from them. Then he and his wife tossed (抛) the stalks high in the air, and the grains of rice fell off the stalks onto the ground. Before they finished, they had gathered every grain of rice.
When evening came, Farmer Lum sat in front of his house. He smiled, because the rice crop was good. In fact, it was the best rice crop he had ever had. He would have enough to feed his family and there would be some left over to sell. Maybe he would be able to buy a colour TV set.

You might not know it, but there is something wonderful at your fingertips(指尖). You can make people happier, healthier and more hardworking just by touching their arms or holding their hands.
Doctors say that body contact (接触) is a kind of medicine that can work wonders. When people are touched, the quantity of hemoglobin(血红蛋白)—a type of matter that produces that red color in blood—increases greatly. This results in more oxygen reaching every part of the body and the whole body benefits. In experiments, bottle - fed baby monkeys were separated from their mothers for the first ten days of life. They became sad and inactive. Studies showed the monkeys were more probable to become ill than other babies that were allowed to stay with their mothers.
Human bodies react in much the same way. Some years ago, a scientist noticed some well-fed babies in a clean nursery(托儿所) became weak. Yet babies in another nursery were growing healthily, even though they ate less well and were not kept as clean. The reason, he concluded, was that they often had touches from nurses.
Experiments show that most people like being touched. And nearly all doctors believe touches help to reduce patients' fear of treatment. Of course, there are times when a touch is not welcome. But even if we don't like being touched, a smile can make us feel better. Smiling increases blood flow and starts the production of“happy”brain chemicals.
1.It can be inferred from the passage that ________.
[ ]
A.if people aren't touched, they'll surely become ill
B.touches usually benefit those who receive them
C.touches often make people who got them angry
D.if there are no touches, there'll be no more hemoglobin
2.If we add a sentence to the passage, which should be the best?
[ ]
A.So why not offer and receive more touches and smile more often?
[ ]
B.Don't you believe the stories of the monkeys and the children?
C.So touch everybody you meet from now on.
D.So don't get angry next time you are touched.
3.The title that best suits the passage should be ________.
[ ]
A.Wonders of Medicine
B.Always Touching Each Other
C.Keeping in Touch
D.Wonderful Touches
